There are more than 300 million followers of Buddhism around the world. The word comes from 'budhi' (to awaken). It has its origins about 2,500 years ago when Siddhartha ( Gautam) known as the Buddha, was himself awakened (enlightened) at the age of thirty five. Buddhism takes as its goal the escape from suffering and from the cycle of rebirth: the attainment of nirvana. Buddhism explains a purpose to life, it explains apparent injustice and inequality around the world and it provides a code of practice or way of life that leads to true happiness. Here is an overview of the most famous Buddhist temples in the world. http://espiritworld.com/ https://www.facebook.com/espiritworld https://plus.google.com/u/0/+EspiritWorldindia/posts https://twitter.com/ESPIRITWORLD
Thailand is home to over 40,000 Buddhist temples, but none of them is quite like Wat Plai Laem. Completed in 2004, the site is a collection of temples and statues located on Koh Samui, Thailand's second largest island. Wat Plai Laem's temples are active, set in a tranquil location, where quiet reflection is encouraged and appropriate attire is a must. One of the temple's most eye-catching figures is a nearly 100-foot tall statue of Buddha, painted in bright red, white and gold. But the main statue is the Buddhist goddess of compassion and mercy, Guanyin. There, she is represented with 18 arms, which shows her ability to help many people in need at once. Today, August 8, 2011 I visited three large Buddhist temples in Kelantan, East Malaysia. They are Wat Machimmaram, Wat Pikulthong and Wat Photivihan. Wat means Temple or place of worship. I saw these temples on the internet some time back and wanted to visit. And now I have. Many tourists visit these temples and the taxis know how to get there also. Not a problem. I have filmed my visit for you to enjoy. If you can't get there right now, then visit through my video here. The temples are 45 minutes drive from the capital of Kelantan State which is Kota Bahru. It is a pleasant drive but very hot...take plenty of water, hat and umbrella if you can.... I went to visit these temples with my blog team which consists of Beng Kooi, Justin Ripley, Ethan, Bryan, Seng Piow and Monlam. Enjoy and ...
In this 43 minute video we look at a variety of Buddhist temples in Thailand, both old and new. We start in Chiang Mai in the north, and then travel south to Sukhothai, then to Ayuthaya, Bangkok, and finish in Pattaya. This gives an overview of what we can see in these places, and also of the architecture that was inspired by the Buddhist culture there. This is from my tour of Thailand that I took in April of 2014. Peter Barakan interviews Muho Noelke, the German abbot of Antaiji. Antaiji is a Zen monastery that is located deep in the mountains, close to the Japanese sea. The monastery commits itself to the practice of seated meditation and the study of the Buddha's teaching in the tradition of Dogen Zenji and Sawaki Kodo Roshi. Tthe community also cultivates the fields around the monastery, cuts grass and trees and does construction work to keep self-sufficient. In the interview, Abbot Muho explains about zazen, community life and the relation between teacher and student. Another contraversial topic is the precept of not-killing and eating meat. What to do in Krabi, Thailand? This is a pretty complete overview of one on Krabi's best attractions - Wat Tum Sua (Wat Tham Seua) Buddhist temple and 1,256 step mountain climb. If you come to this temple, like all temples in Thailand - do NOT remove your shirt. Do not wear bikinis or other sleeveless clothes. Remove your shoes before you come up on the orange tiled floor at the top of the mountain. Don't miss the Wat Tham Seua foothills area too - climb the 90+ steps by the large Kwan Yin statue at the bottom of this mountain, and then descend another 90 into the area where the monks live in the caves. Quite beautiful and some light cave exploration. Ideal for kids. 1,000 year old trees in this area. Our site: http://www.SeeKrabi.com. Information about Krabi Buddhist temples, Caves, T...
