Plot: Another entry in the "books come alive" subgenre, with possibly more books coming alive than any other. We begin with some musical numbers, notably the various pages of Green Pastures all joining in on a song, The Thin Man entering The White House Cookbook and exiting much fatter, and The House of Seven (Clark) Gables singing backup to Old King Cole. The Three Musketeers break loose, become Three Men on a Horse, grab the Seven Keys to Baldpate, and set the Prisoner of Zenda free. They are soon chased by horsemen from The Charge of the Light Brigade and Under Two Flags and beset by the cannons of All Quiet on the Western Front. All this disturbs the sleep of Rip Van Winkle, who opens Hurricane so that everyone is (all together now) Gone with the Wind.

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
The inaugural Henry Cole Lecture, held at the V&A; Museum in London on 30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum' was delivered by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.

Henry Cole lecture 2009: Professor Hongnam Kim
Transcript:
Thank you for the very generous introduction of me. And I thank all of you for coming this evening to hear my lecture. It is really wonderful to be here - this time Mother Nature finally allowed me to fly into this part of globe. I was very sorry for the postponement of my lecture [which] has inconvenienced many, including my colleagues at the V&A;. Before I left Korea, I went through a Google Search to find out who Henry Cole was – because I did not know about him – and found out really wonderful things about him and felt his contribution was so great in British cultural history, particularly for this eminent museum, and I was very honoured and humbled.
My talk today is about the national museums of the People's Republic of China, Japan, and the Republic of Korea and the issu...

Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - New York, 1939
Found 8mm footage of the 1939 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Floats and balloons featuring: Pinocchio, Donald Duck, The Tin Man, The Scarecrow, Old King Cole, Uncle Sam, Gulliver, Acrobats, The Butcher, The Baker, and the Candlestick Maker, Santa, and more.
I captured this in HD as part of a music video project for The Demographic (a montage of a bunch of other great found film footage - http://www.vimeo.com/22025773). There is no audio. Thanks to Bill Smith at Balloonworks for providing some background info and correcting me on the year!

The Inventor
Earlier this year I proposed an idea to my 92 year-old neighbor and life-long inventor to shoot a short film documenting many of the inventions he's created throughout his life. Nervous at the idea that many of his un-patented inventions may be compromised, Carl opened up to me in a much different way than I had originally intended, sharing his inspirations and philosophy behind his life-long passion of creating, to help his fellow man.

"Hunter's Moon" - Proof of Concept Short - Dir. Sean Q. King
After shooting a werewolf cub, five estranged friends must defend themselves from a family of marauding werewolves in a remote hunting cabin.
Dan Loman and his thirteen year old son Adam were expecting a peaceful weekend camping retreat in the peaceful North Eastern wilderness. Dan’s brother Stuart, and childhood friend Teddy had another plan for the trip- to get Dan to reconcile with his old business partner Cole, and to snag a few deer while they are up there.
Dan and Cole have a complicated relationship, regarding both business and personal. Dan would rather not have his son Adam in on most of it, some of it being shameful. It’s in Cole’s best interest, as well as Stuart and Teddy, that they get a document signed by Dan in order to settle up on a large sum of money. This all reveal...

Old King Cole
"Bring me my 3 fiddelrs!"
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three.
Every fiddler he had a fiddle,
And a very fine fiddle had he;
Oh there's none so rare, as can compare

The Inaugural Henry Cole Lecture: Sir Christopher Frayling, 30 October 2008
videos
The inaugural
Henry Cole Lecture, held at the
V&A; Museum in
London on
30 October 2008. The purpose of the lecture is to celebrate the legacy of the
Museum’s founding director, and explore its implications for museums, culture and society today.
The lecture, entitled 'We Must Have
Steam: Get
Cole! Henry Cole, the
Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational
Role of the Museum' was delivered by
Professor Sir Christopher Frayling. He presented new research on the “chamber of horrors” (a contemporary nickname for one of the
V&A;'s earliest galleries, 'Decorations on
False Principles', that opened in 1852) and the myths and realities of its reception, then opened up a wider debate on design education and museums from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Transcript:
Mark Jones: The annual Henry Cole lecture has been initiated to celebrate Henry Cole's legacy and to explore the contribution that culture can make to education and society today. It has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the Sackler
Centre for arts education, including the Hochhauser
Auditorium in which we sit tonight. There could be no one better than Professor Sir Christopher Frayling to give the inaugural Henry Cole Lecture.
Christopher is a rare being: an intellectual who is a great communicator; a theorist who has a firm grip on the practical realities of life: a writer who truly and instinctively understands the words of making design and visual communication. As an enormously successful and respected Rector of the
Royal College of Art, as Chairman of the
Arts Council, and as a member and chair of boards too numerous to mention - but not forgetting the
Royal Mint Advisory Committee which has recently been responsible for redesigning the coinage (personal interest) and as by far the longest-serving Trustee of the V&A;, he brings together culture, education and public service in a way which Henry Cole would have approved and admired. So it's more than fitting that he should be giving this first Henry Cole Lecture, 'We Must Have Steam: Get Cole! Henry Cole, the Chamber of Horrors, and the Educational Role of the Museum'.
CHRISTOPHER FRAYLING:
Thank you very much indeed
Mark and thank you very much for inviting me to give this first Henry Cole Lecture. Just how much of an honour it is for me will I hope become clear as the lecture progresses.

Hidden away in the garden of the

Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: '

30 January 1879. He was with Henry Cole in his heyday, as the king of
South Kensington - its museums and colleges - and saw him through to retirement from the public service and beyond. And next to this inscription there's another one dedicated to
Jim's successor,
Tycho, and dated 1885.
The dogs are actually buried in the garden. Now we know from Henry Cole's diary that between
1864 and 1879 Jim, who was a cairn terrier, was often to be seen in public at his master's side. In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the

Princess Royal (later
Empress of
Prussia) there was a family saying in
Buckingham Palace at the time, invented by
Albert himself, that when things needed doing 'when we want steam we must get Cole'. We may therefore assume that when looking at the memorial, Cole was interested in the inscription, the statistics and the likeness of Prince Albert, while Jim was more interested in the possibilities of the plinth. In early 1866 - these are five studies of Jim, an etching by Henry Cole himself of 1864. In early 1866, first thing in the morning, soon after the workmen's bell had rung,
Henry and Jim would set forth together from

Thank you for the very generous introduction of me.
And I thank all of you for coming this evening to hear my lecture. It is really wonderful to be here - this time
Mother Nature finally allowed me to fly into this part of globe. I was very sorry for the postponement of my lecture [which] has inconvenienced many, including my colleagues at the
V&A;. Before I left
Korea, I went through a
Google Search to find out who
Henry Cole was – because I did not know about him – and found out really wonderful things about him and felt his contribution was so great in
British cultural history, particularly for this eminent museum, and I was very honoured and humbled.
My talk today is about the national museums of the
People's Republic of China,
Japan, and the
Republic of Korea and the issue of cultural nationalism at these institutions. Japan was the first in
Asia to launch national museums in the late
19th century, starting with the
Tokyo National museum, followed by the
Kyoto and
Nara National Museums.
The country now possesses about 4,000 museums.
The Republic of Korea (hereafter called Korea) launched its central museum (
National Museum) in
1945, absolving the
Imperial Household Museum which existed from
1908 and of the
Kyongju Museum. Korea now boasts about 1,000 museums. The first national museum which the People's Republic of China (hereafter called
China) created was the
National History Museum in
1915, followed by the
Palace Museum in 1925 and the Museum of
Chinese Revolution in
1961. China has set out to have more than 3,000 museums within a few more years. The seats of its 33 provinces already have their own museums, often of impressive scale. The museum fever is spreading in Asia. Economic prosperity and political stability obviously are the major driving force behind such an increase of museums in Asia.
These museums have followed the models of the
West in their mission to preserve natural and manmade heritage, disseminate knowledge, and educate people, offering authentic experiences though exhibitions and education programmes.
Nevertheless, one peculiarity observed from these institutions is the presence of cultural nationalism of varying intensity, which can be discerned from their collections and other programmes.
As proven by their birth years, cultural nationalism is indeed their birthmark; a powerful driving force in the colonial and post-colonial era, multilayered but with different agendas, it helped these museums join in nation-building or nation-rebuilding, and in consolidating national identity. But when too prevailing, or when left inmost, it can continue to shape all programmes, knowingly and unknowingly, promoting prejudice and disrespect among the people of three countries. It can even take a form of cultural imperialism in which hegemony (in a cultural sense) is the explicit goal of the nation states in relation to foreign cultures, as seen during the colonial period.
National museums are the foremost example of social institutions of these three nations that are shaped in the penetrating process of corresponding (being attracted, pressured, and even forced) and even promoting the values of cultural nationalism. The outcome can be unhealthy and anti-educational, especially for children and the youths.
It was this issue of cultural nationalism which was of major concern during my tenure as the
Director of Korea's National Museum. The question was how much of it is a necessity, and how much of it should be expelled to make the
Asian community a healthier and more friendly one with mutual tolerance and respect. In this rapidly changing social world, there isn't much for us to hang onto. Museums, and perhaps universities and libraries, may remain as the last institutions for spiritual comforts, purification, and the reassurance of human dignity.
Now, first, let me brief you on the nature of cultural nationalism in the region. Then I will move on to describe how cultural nationalism was operating in the past, and what sorts of change have occurred to affect these museums in recent years. I must say that the subject turned out to be so loaded that it was like disturbing a beehive. I hope you will bear with me.
Cultural
Nationalism and National Museums in
East Asia
The first is the cultural nationalism and the national museums of East Asia.
Cultural nationalism in East Asia is deeply rooted in the region’s geopolitical history. While I talk, I shall have on the screen a moving cultural map of
2000 years for the region as a simple historical survey. The dramatic changes in this map are the result of bloody wars, conquests, colonisation, and independence struggles which involved nearly 60 ethnic people-groups in the
East Asian region. Included are the
Han Chinese, the
Korean and the
Japanese who became the final winners in the region as of today.
Naturally, ethnic solidarity, patriotism and nationalism were the strongest weapons in these struggles for ethnic and national surv

Earlier this year I proposed an idea to my 92 year-old neighbor and life-long inventor to shoot a short film documenting many of the inventions he's created throughout his life.
Nervous at the idea that many of his un-patented inventions may be compromised,
Carl opened up to me in a much different way than I had originally intended, sharing his inspirations and philosophy behind his life-long passion of creating, to help his fellow man.

After shooting a werewolf cub, five estranged friends must defend themselves from a family of marauding werewolves in a remote hunting cabin.
Dan
Loman and his thirteen year old son
Adam were expecting a peaceful weekend camping retreat in the peaceful
North Eastern wilderness. Dan’s brother
Stuart, and childhood friend
Teddy had another plan for the trip- to get Dan to reconcile with his old business partner Cole, and to snag a few deer while they are up there.
Dan and Cole have a complicated relationship, regarding both business and personal. Dan would rather not have his son Adam in on most of it, some of it being shameful.
It’s in
Cole’s best interest, as well as Stuart and Teddy, that they get a document signed by Dan in order to settle up on a large sum of money. This all reveals itself and boils over the night before the hunt.
Hung over and clumsy, the men accidentally shoot what they think is a bear cub.
Still alive, they decide to bring it back to the cabin save it and save themselves a hefty fine. When they investigate the beast, they realize that it is not a bear at all- it is a wolf cub disguised in a bear’s skin. Not just any wolf cub. This one has too many human features to be a wolf.
While trying to get the bullet out, the men begin to hear howling from outside the cabin. The family has come for their baby…
The struggle begins, and so do the arguments on how to escape. Adam is bit by the infant werewolf cub and begins a horrific transformation right before the men’s eyes. Now, with monstrous supernatural threats from outside- and inside the cabin, the men must try to set aside their differences and survive what will be a bloody battle fought tooth and nail, arrow and bullet, silver and bone!
With HUNTER’S
MOON, it is our intention to bring to the screen an action horror film reminiscent of classic survival adventures such as
JAWS, AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN
LONDON, PREDATOR, and
THE THING.
Great effort has been put into the screenplay and characters to bring them to the forefront of the drama that thrillingly unfolds. This is a character based thriller, the supernatural elements being almost secondary.
That’s not to say that we don’t have thrilling creatures and grisly action for the genre fans.
Things get messy when you have to fend off a pack of bloodthirsty creatures that could tear a man in half with a single swipe. But we believe that the best chance you have at true suspense, thrilling drama, and compassion for your characters, is with great writing, performances, and story development.
With proper funding, we will seek out to book the best name talent we possibly can. Written by Sean Q.
King, Lee Kolinsky,
Russ Camarda, and
John Kilgour, based on a story from
Director Sean Q. King, the script was written and refined for a period of over three years. The short proof of concept film that was produced in
2015 is a great tone poem to display what we are going for- pure drama, thrills, chills and suspense!
Director Sean Q. King has been active in many aspects of film production. He is known for his cinematography work on the award winning films "
The Night Never Sleeps"(
2012), “
Send No Flowers”(
2013), and "
Cigarette Soup”(2014), as well as producing and directing the cult hits “
This Mortal Coil”(
2010), “

How many rings in a circus tent
And how many holes in a bowlin' ball?
How many corners in a triangle?
Everybody knows there are three in all.
Three little wheels go round and round
When a tricycle goes zippin' by.
Three little pigs have a house of bricks
And three little kittens have their pie.
Three-minute eggs a-cookin',
Three strikes, you're out!
The number three is such a thrill,
It makes me wanna shout!
Hip-hip hooray, hip-hip hooray,
Hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
Hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
Triceratops has three big horns.
Three musketeers yell, "

When

Old King Cole had fiddlers three!

The number three just tickles me!

Old King Cole
"Bring me my 3 fiddelrs!"
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his pipe, and he called for his bowl
And he called for his fiddlers three.
Every fiddler he had a fiddle,
And a very fine fiddle had he;
Oh there's none so rare, as can compare

Mark, Chairpeople, ladies and gentlemen:
Hidden away in the garden of the
South Kensington Museum - now the Madejski
Garden of the V&A; - there is a small and easily overlooked commemorative plaque that doesn't have a museum number. It reads: '
In Memory of Jim Died 1879
Aged 15
Years,
Faithful Dog of
Sir Henry Cole of this Museum'. Jim had in fact died on
30 January 1879.
In 1864 they were together inspecting the new memorial to the
Great Exhibition of 1851 just behind the

Transcript:

Transcript:

This Mortal Coil”(
2010), “
Lost Suburbia”(
2007), and "The Ghouligans!"(2013). King continues to shoot and direct many narrative, documentary, and commercial films, but is currently making HUNTER’S MOON his top priority.

LYRICS:
How many rings in a circus tent
And how many holes in a bowlin' ball?
How many corners in a triangle?
Everybody knows there are three in all.
Three little wheels go round and round
When a tricycle goes zippin' by.
Three little pigs have a house of bricks
And three little kittens have their pie.
Three-minute eggs a-cookin',
Three strikes, you're out!
The number three is such a thrill,
It makes me wanna shout!
Hip-hip hooray, hip-hip hooray,
Hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
Hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
Triceratops has three big horns.
Three musketeers yell, "
All for one!"
When
your ice cream's got three flavors,
That's called
Neapolitan.
Goldilocks, she met three bears.
Columbus had three ships at sea.
A genie grants three magic wishes.
Old King Cole had fiddlers three!
(
Fiddle break)
Three colored traffic lights
Mean stop or wait or go.
The number three just tickles me!
I gotta let it show!
Hip-hip hooray, hip-hip hooray,
Hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
Hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
Hip-hip hooray, hip-hip hooray, three cheers for three!
