Roger William Corman (born April 5, 1926) is an American independent film producer, director and actor. He has been called The Pope of Pop Cinema, and is known as a trail blazer in the world of independent film. Much of Corman's work has an established critical reputation, such as his cycle of low budget cult films adapted from the tales of Edgar Allan Poe. Admired by members of the French New Wave and Cahiers du cinéma, in 1964 Corman was the youngest filmmaker to have a retrospective at the Cinémathèque Française, as well as the British Film Institute and the Museum of Modern Art. In 2009, he was awarded an Honorary Academy Award.
Corman mentored and gave a start to many young film directors such as Francis Ford Coppola, Ron Howard, Martin Scorsese and James Cameron. He helped launch the careers of actors Peter Fonda and Jack Nicholson.
Corman has occasionally taken minor acting roles in the films of directors who started with him, including The Silence of the Lambs, The Godfather Part II, Apollo 13, The Manchurian Candidate and Philadelphia. A documentary about Corman's life and career entitled Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel premiered at Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals in 2011, directed by Alex Stapleton. The film's TV rights were picked up by A&E IndieFilms after a well-received screening at Sundance.

Legendary filmmaker Roger Corman sat down for an interview to discuss his new film DEATH RACE 2050, and answered questions spanning his entire career, from the 1950s until today. www.nerds-feather.com Roger Corman has worked in and outside of Hollywood since the 1950s, creating a path for independent filmmakers to follow since the beginning. A director, writer, producer, and distributor known for low budgets, tight shooting schedules, and for launching the careers of actors, directors, and producers that went on to radically redefine Hollywood starting in the late 1960s, Corman worked with Vincent Price, Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Peter Bogdanovich, Joe Dante, Gale Anne Hurd, Ron Howard, James Cameron, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and many more.
By the early 1960s, the studio system in Hollywood, which gave a few huge movie studios more or less a monopoly over filmmaking, was on its way out. The shining-est light of Hollywood was Roger Corman, whose rough-and-ready approach was bringing audiences into theaters by the bucketload. Corman was, whatever one might say about his product, sensitive enough to see that his growing power as a director and producer put him in a position to nurture and promote young directing talent. And nurture and promote he did. Edited by Tyler Knudsen

Th Terror (1963) is an American horror film produced and directed by Roger Corman. It is famous for being filmed on sets left over from other AIP productions, including The Haunted Palace. The movie was also released as Lady of the Shadows, The Castle of Terror, and The Haunting; it was later featured as an episode of Cinema Insomnia[1] and Elvira's Movie Macabre. The movie is sometimes linked to Corman's series of "Poe films," which were made between 1960 and 1964 based on the public domain works of Edgar Allan Poe, but The Terror is not actually based on any text by Poe.
