Glutinous rice (Oryza sativa var. glutinosa; also called sticky rice, sweet rice or waxy rice) is a type of rice grown mainly in Southeast and East Asia, which has opaque grains, very low amylose content, and is especially sticky when cooked. It is called glutinous (< Latin glūtinōsus) in the sense of being glue-like or sticky, and not in the sense of containing gluten. While often called "sticky rice", it differs from non-glutinous strains of japonica rice which also become sticky to some degree when cooked. There are numerous cultivars of glutinous rice, which include japonica, indica, and tropical japonica strains.
In China, glutinous rice has been grown for at least 2,000 years.
Glutinous rice is grown in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Northeast India, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines. An estimated 85% of Lao rice production is of this type. The rice has been recorded in the region for at least 1,100 years.
Street food is ready-to-eat food or drink sold by a hawker, or vendor, in a street or other public place, such as at a market or fair. It is often sold from a portable food booth, food cart, or food truck and meant for immediate consumption. Some street foods are regional, but many have spread beyond their region of origin. Most street foods are classed as both finger food and fast food, and are cheaper on average than restaurant meals. According to a 2007 study from the Food and Agriculture Organization, 2.5 billion people eat street food every day.
Today, people may purchase street food for a number of reasons, such as to get flavorful food for a reasonable price in a sociable setting, to experience ethnic cuisines, or for nostalgia.
Small fried fish were a street food in ancient Greece, however, Theophrastus held the custom of street food in low regard. Evidence of a large number of street food vendors were discovered during the excavation of Pompeii. Street food was widely consumed by poor urban residents of ancient Rome whose tenement homes did not have ovens or hearths. Here, chickpea soup with bread and grain paste were common meals. In ancient China, street food generally catered to the poor, however, wealthy residents would send servants to buy street food and bring it back for them to eat in their homes.
Sticky may refer to:
When used as an adjective, Thai refers to anything that originates from Thailand. As a noun it may refer to:
Rice is the seed of the grass species Oryza sativa (Asian rice) or Oryza glaberrima (African rice). As a cereal grain, it is the most widely consumed staple food for a large part of the world's human population, especially in Asia. It is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest worldwide production, after sugarcane and maize, according to 2012 FAOSTAT data.
Since a large portion of maize crops are grown for purposes other than human consumption, rice is the most important grain with regard to human nutrition and caloric intake, providing more than one-fifth of the calories consumed worldwide by humans.
Wild rice, from which the crop was developed, may have its native range in Australia. Chinese legends attribute the domestication of rice to Shennong, the legendary emperor of China and inventor of Chinese agriculture. Genetic evidence has shown that rice originates from a single domestication 8,200–13,500 years ago in the Pearl River valley region of China. Previously, archaeological evidence had suggested that rice was domesticated in the Yangtze River valley region in China.

Make sticky rice in about 15 mins! Previous video http://bit.ly/howtomakedumplings Read my blog http://buppha.com/ To cook the sticky rice, all you need are a bamboo steamer, a big pot or wok, a piece of baking paper, and sticky rice, of course. Method: 1. Soak the sticky rice in hot boiling water for 30 mins., keep stirring once in a while to separate the rice. So all of the rice will be soaked through. After 30 mins. drain. 2. Place a big sheet of baking paper on the bamboo steamer, add the sticky rice on the baking paper, use spatula to even the rice. 3. Add water in a big pot or wok, not too much, just half the pot or wok. Turn on high heat. When the water is boiling put the bamboo steamer on top of it, close the lid, lower the heat to medium heat. 4. Steam the rice for about 5-7...

SassEsnacks™ has only one YouTube channel. Any other channel claiming to belong to me is a fake and run by an imposter. Intro:00:00 Preparation:01:34 Eating:05:38 Dessert:13:28 Hi everyone. I'm back with another eating video and recipe for you. On today's menu is Thai green papaya salad with a side of sticky rice. You are actually supposed to use cherry tomatoes, but I didn't have any, so I improvised. I hope you all enjoy the video and try some Thai papaya salad next time you are out at your favorite Thai restaurant. If you are sensitive to spicy foods, make sure you tell them to serve it mild. So yummy! P.S. I dimmed the video lighting, so it was darker for night time viewing. I hope you prefer it that way.
