Jakarta /dʒəˈkɑːrtə/, officially known as the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (Indonesian: Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota Jakarta), is the capital and largest city of Indonesia, (though Jakarta is also a province) and one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.
Located on the northwest coast of Java, Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political centre, and with a population of 10,075,310 as of 2014. The official metropolitan area, known as Jabodetabek (a name formed by combining the initial syllables of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi), is the fourth largest in the world, yet the metropolis's suburbs still continue beyond it. Its unofficial built-up (metropolitan) area covers Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi, Karawang, Serang, Purwakarta, Sukabumi and Subang regencies (123 districts) including also Tangerang, Bekasi, Tangerang Selatan, Depok, Serang and Cilegon Municipalities was home to 30,214,303 inhabitants as of 2010 census.
Established in the fourth century, the city became an important trading port for the Kingdom of Sunda. It was the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies (known as Batavia at that time). Today, the city has continued as the capital of Indonesia since the country's independence was declared in 1945. The city is currently the seat of the ASEAN Secretariat as well as houses important financial institutions such as the Bank of Indonesia, the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and the corporate headquarters of numerous Indonesian companies and multinational corporations. Jakarta's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over Indonesia, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures.

Not really a tourist's guide - more of a of a quick glance at the Indonesian capital. We see how bad the traffic is, go on a few bike rides, see some storms and see a huge atlas moth. Jakarta is our new home for the next few years....
►Jakarta Travel Guide for Food Lovers: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/jakarta-indonesia/ A couple years before I started ever making food and travel videos, I visited Indonesia, and it was one of the most amazing places, both in terms of food, natural scenery, and people, that I have ever visited. And I always knew I needed to come back again to visit Indonesia, this time with my camera. We only had a couple weeks, so rather than try to rush from one place to another (although I’d love to visit many more islands and cities throughout Indonesia), for this trip, my wife and I just decided to spend our time in Jakarta to really get a feel for the city and its amazing blend of food. We started off at Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport, the budget airline airport, where you’l...

In this movie from our trip through Indonesia, you will see all kinds of highlights from Java and Bali. After landing in Jakarta we quickly go to Gunung Halimun National Park. We stay at home with a local guide and visit a tea plantation, a tea factory and of course the surrounding jungles. It takes us 2 days to get from Citalahab (in Halimun) to get to Pangandaran beach. Here we learn to surf, take a swim in the Green Valley and visit a traditional Wajang puppet maker. From Pangandaran we head to Yogyakarta by train and visit the Borobudur temple. From Yogyakarta we travel to the magnificent Bromo volcano and its surroundings, followed by the even more stunning Ijen volcano. After these long days we have some relaxing time on the route to Sukamade. In the evening we found a turtle on the...
Nasi Uduk Betawi is an Indonesian Betawi style of coconut rice. To eat this meal, I went to a restaurant called Zainal Fanani in Jakarta, that serves a traditional version. The rice was wonderfully fragrant and the fried chicken was tasty. Also, check out my Jakarta travel guide for food lovers: http://migrationology.com/travel-guides/jakarta-indonesia/
License Video: http://dissolve.com/products?media_type=video&producer;=Pete+R&sort;_by_date=true Updated: Made the video a little more concise and the music a little bit more interesting and not repetitive. Take a deep breath and go on a journey around South East Asia through leech-infested jungles, abandoned temples, and colorful coral reefs. It was a 2 months trip that gone by so fast, like taking one deep breath. This is no ordinary "inspiring" travel video. For this, I decided to go with a much more fun and action-packed style instead of the usual go-to "inspirational" travel style that I like to do.. and a delicious "disco" music. Everything is better with disco music. :) I also experimented on many ways of shooting and framing and I think most of the footages came out really well. ...
Diving onboard the Black Manta throughout Raja Ampat (Indonesia and West Papua) by way of Sorong (West Papua). There were so many dives and amazing footage capture that is was impossible to compress it all into a six minute video (I'll be editing more). Nevertheless, some footage is also from other regions such as Bali and Central Java (Borobudur--Mahayana Buddhist temple once thought to be mere legend, only to be rediscovered buried deep beneath volcanic ash and jungle growth.) Interestingly enough, the facts surrounding it's abandonment centuries ago still remain a mystery yet the rise of Hinduism and later Islam, as well as the countless active volcanoes surrounding within close proximity come to mind. And the Prambanan (Hindu Temple) with it's tall and pointed architecture reaching high...
