Annie Oakley (born Phoebe Ann Mosey; August 13, 1860 – November 3, 1926) was an American sharpshooter and exhibition shooter. Her "amazing talent" first came to light when the then 15-year-old won a shooting match with traveling show marksman Frank E. Butler (whom she married). The couple joined Buffalo Bill's Wild West show a few years later. Oakley became a renowned international star, performing before royalty and heads of state.
Oakley also was variously known as "Miss Annie Oakley", "Little Sure Shot", "Little Miss Sure Shot", "Watanya Cicilla", "Phoebe Anne Oakley", "Mrs. Annie Oakley", "Mrs. Annie Butler", and "Mrs. Frank Butler". Her death certificate gives her name as "Annie Oakley Butler".
Annie Oakley was born Phoebe Ann (Annie) Mosey on August 13, 1860, in a cabin less than two miles (3.2 km) northwest of Woodland, now Willowdell, in Darke County, Ohio, a rural western border county of Ohio. Her birthplace log cabin site is about five miles east of North Star. There is a stone-mounted plaque in the vicinity of the cabin site, which was placed by the Annie Oakley Committee in 1981, 121 years after her birth.

Robert Longo (born January 7, 1953) is an American painter and sculptor. Longo became a rising star in the 1980s for his "Men in the Cities" series, which depicted sharply dressed men and women writhing in contorted emotion.
Robert Longo was born in 1953 in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Long Island. He had a childhood fascination with mass media: movies, television, magazines, and comic books, which continue to influence his art.
Longo began college at the University of North Texas, in the town of Denton, but left before getting a degree. He later studied sculpture under Leonda Finke, who encouraged him to pursue a career in the visual arts. In 1972, Longo received a grant to study at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Italy. Upon his return to New York, Longo enrolled at Buffalo State College, where he received a BFA in 1975. While at Buffalo State, he studied under, and was likely influenced by art professor Joseph Piccillo. At this time he was associated with artist Cindy Sherman, who was also studying art at Buffalo State.
Jonathan Borofsky (born December 24, 1942) is an American sculptor and printmaker who lives and works in Ogunquit, Maine.
Borofsky was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University in 1964, after which he continued his studies at France's Ecole de Fontainebleau and received his Master of Fine Arts from Yale University in 1966. He lived in Manhattan until a teaching position at the California Institute of the Arts brought him to Los Angeles in 1977. He resided in Venice and Tuna Canyon, Los Angeles from 1977 to 1992, In the 1960s, Borofsky's art sought to interconnect minimalism and pop art.
On May 21, 2006, Borofsky received an honorary doctorate in Fine Arts from Carnegie Mellon, his alma mater.
Jonathan Borofsky's most famous works, at least among the general public, are his Hammering Man sculptures. "Hammering Men" have been installed in various cities around the world. The largest Hammering Man is in Seoul, Korea and the second largest is in Frankfurt, Germany. Other Hammering Men are in Basel, Switzerland, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York, Seattle, Gainesville, FL, Washington, D.C. and Lillestrøm, Norway.

James Kalm drifts through Downtown Manhattan and records a couple of exhibitions of interest. Jonathan Borofsky has been a presence on the international art scene since the late sixties. His installations and counting practice were unique, but with Five Large Paintings hes given up counting and taken up the paint brush. Across town we drop in for the opening of Carrie Moyer. This recent selection of paintings displays Moyers sense of elegance and a knowing employment of painterly devices recalling biomorphic Surrealism, with a Post Modern distance. A cameo appearance by sand painter Wayne Coe begins the tour, and interviews of Borofsky and Moyer are featured.

If there is one book that redefines anthropology for the twenty-first century, this is it.It is a ground-breaking study that takes us to the ethical heart of the social sciences. Using the Yanomami controversy as a lens for examining anthropology itself, Borofsky asks anthropologists—from introductory students to advanced scholars—how we should craft the values that define our work and ourselves. This is an essential book for our times. Carolyn Nordstrom, University of Notre Dame Finally, a text that truly illuminates the issues of anthropological ethics and helps anthropologists to think and act effectively. In the form of an inquest on the Yanomami controversy, Borofsky lets all sides and the AAA be heard in their own words, creating a context where no reader is left to be carried away ...

Robert Longo is a well known and important American artist. Since the late 70's he has created a large body of work that mines the collective unconscious of our culture - capturing archetypal themes that resonate deeply within us. He trolls the culture, and captures particular iconography evoking themes of power, aggression, and violence - both man made and natural. Educated at State University in Buffalo and coming to NY with friends and colleagues such as Cindy Sherman and others, these young artists became part of the Pictures Generation - a movement that challenged themes of minimalism and conceptual art. During the many years that followed, his work has included a variety of mediums – film, photography, performance art, painting and sculpture. Today his art consists, primarily, of pow...

It was inspired by a 100 foot Jonathan Borofsky sculpture, which creates the illusion of a group of people walking skyward into infinity. With pulsing percussion, heroic brass, haunting melodies, sudden shifts in dynamics and dramatic key changes, everyone in the ensemble gets a chance to star in this exciting mini-movie score. To add even more grandeur, there is an optional choir part (that could be played on a synthesizer). HL04004590 HL04004591

Carrie Moyer, painter, writer and activist, melds hard graphic shapes with biomorphic forms in expertly handled acrylic, or in the artist's words "the ugly step-child of oil paint." Her work simultaneously recalls Surrealism, 70s counterculture graphics and abstract expressionism, fused with an expressly feminist bent and an interest in alternative cultural histories. Moyer has throughout her artistic career been invested in queer and feminist activism: She cofounded Dyke Action Machine! (DAM!) in 1991, and has worked with and designed agitprop graphics for Queer Nation, the Lesbian Avengers, the Irish Lesbian and Gay Organization (ILGO) and the New York City Anti-Violence Project.
