These clips were taken from the film Aurore which was filmed in the 1950's just 30 years after Aurore's death.
Marie-Aurore Lucienne Gagnon, or just Aurore was born on May 31st 1909 to her parents Telesphore Gagnon and Marie-Ann Caron.
Aurore was the second of the five Gagnon children. Marie-Jeanne, Aurore, Lucina, Georges-Etienne and Joseph.
In 1916, Marie-Ann was hospitalized for tuberculosis, in the meantime, a widow cousin of Telesphore, Marie-Anne Houde, moved in to the Gagnon home saying she wanted to help "take care of the children". She moved into the home with her two sons Gerard and Henri-Georges.
On November 6th 1917, two-year-old Joseph was found dead in his bed, although his death was suggested natural, some of the villagers became suspicious and thought Marie-Anne had something to do with it. On January 23rd 1918, Marie-Ann Caron died of tuberculosis. A week later, Telesphore and Marie-Anne married. The villagers became even more suspicious when Gerard and Heri-Georges subsequently died in the home. During this time, Telesphore began beating Aurore with an axe handle at the age of 10. In 1919, Aurore was hospitalized for over a month with a sever leg infection caused by the beating. While she was in the hospital, she wrote a letter to her family saying she missed them, but it is thought that only Marie-Anne Houde saw the letter and hid it from Telesphore and the other children. When Aurore returned home, she was continuously beaten again. Marie-Jeanne made efforts to try to protect Aurore but Marie-Anne Houde and Telesphore got mad when she did, Telesphore once hit Marie-Jeanne, and Marie-Anne Houde yelled at her after she shoved Aurore's crutch at him after he pushed it out of her hand as she was coming down the stairs.
One day, Aurore came downstairs in her underwear and Marie-Anne told her to get back upstairs, Telesphore saw Aurore and the bruises, cuts and burns on her body, Marie-Anne tried to convince Telesphore that what he saw were injuries but a bad skin condition that she had.
On February 12th 1920, Jesus saved Aurore from suffering.
Aurore died in the late hours of the evening. The villagers who had became so suspicious, contacted the Priest who refused to except that Marie-Anne Houde was beating Aurore and he called Aurore a liar, the villagers made him contact the Archbishop who made arrangements for police and a doctor to visit the home, when they arrived at the home Aurore was lying stiff, not moving or breathing in her bed, Marie-Jeanne was by her side and the doctor looked at Aurore's vital signs and declared her dead.
At Aurore's funeral, Telesphore and Marie-Anne was arrested for trying to leave the Church. Marie-Anne was convicted of murder and was sentenced to be hanged but her sentence was changed to life in priosn, but in 1935 she was let out (15 years later) due to "health problems", Telesphore was found guilty and convicted of manslaughter an sentenced to life if prison, but in 1925(5 years later) he was released on "good behavior". Telesphore moved back to his home town and wrote letters who Marie-Anne Houde while she was still in prison. In 1936, less than a year after her release, Marie-Anne died of breast cancer. After her death Telesphore remarried and died in 1961. It is unknown what happened to Auore's siblings after her death and the sentencing of her father and stepmother.

O povo de Sainte-Philomère de Fortierville fica calado enquanto testemunham lentamente cada vez mais estranhos acontecimentos no lar dos Gagnon. A jovem Aurore Gagnon morre. O médico legista do inquérito irá revelar que ela morreu de envenenamento do sangue resultante do tratamento abusivo e das muitas feridas em seu pequeno corpo. A história vai fazer tremer o país inteiro com Honnor. O filme mostra a realidade social do Quebec durante o início dos anos 1900's.

À l’occasion du baptême de la princesse, le roi et la reine organisent une fête somptueuse, invitant famille, amis et sept fées marraines bienveillantes de l'enfant. Chacune d'elles offre un don à la princesse : beauté, grâce, etc. Brusquement une vieille fée, qui n’a pas été invitée, se présente et lance à la princesse un charme mortel : la princesse se piquera le doigt sur le fuseau d'un rouet et en mourra. Heureusement, une des jeunes fées marraines qui s'était cachée pour parler en dernier atténue la malédiction : « Au lieu d’en mourir, elle tombera seulement dans un profond sommeil qui durera 100 ans, au terme desquels le fils d’un roi viendra la réveiller ».
Pour protéger sa fille, le roi fait immédiatement interdire de filer au fuseau ou d’avoir un fuseau sous peine de mort. Pourtant, vers ses quinze ans, dans une partie reculée du château, la princesse découvre une vieille fileuse qui ne connait pas l’interdiction. Elle se pique aussitôt au fuseau et s’endort, en même temps que tous les habitants du château. Au cours des ans, celui-ci est recouvert de végétation. Il n’est redécouvert qu’après 100 ans, lorsqu’un fils de roi y pénètre et réveille la princesse.
Deux ans plus tard, la princesse et le prince eurent deux enfants : Aurore et Jour. Malheureusement le prince et le Roi partirent à la guerre. La princesse resta donc au château avec la belle-reine, laquelle était issue d'une famille d'ogres. La reine demanda au maître d'hôtel de lui préparer le fils Jour en guise de déjeuner et la petite Aurore en guise de dîner. Mais le maître d'hôtel, homme de très bon cœur, cacha les enfants et servit de la viande animale à la belle-reine.

Parmi les versions les plus célèbres figurent celle de Charles Perrault, publiée en 1697 dans Les Contes de ma mère l'Oye, et celle des frères Grimm (Dornröschen) publiée en 1812. La version de Perrault est basée sur Le Soleil, la Lune et Thalie de Giambattista Basile (publié à titre posthume en 1634), un conte lui-même basé sur un ou plusieurs contes populaires. Une des premières versions connues de l'histoire est Perceforest, composé entre 1330 et 1344 et imprimé en 1528. Mais on peut aussi mentionner la version provençale (parfois considérée comme catalane) de la même époque que constitue Frayre de Joy e Sor de Plaser.

Aurore Gagnon
Marie-Aurore-Lucienne Gagnon, simply known as Aurore Gagnon (31 May 1909 – 12 February 1920), was a Canadian girl who was a victim of child abuse. She died of exhaustion and blood poisoning from some 52 wounds inflicted by her stepmother, Marie-Anne Houde, and her father, Télesphore Gagnon. The story of l'enfant martyre (English translation: The Child Martyr) received great attention in the media and Aurore became an icon of Quebec sociological and popular culture.
Life
Aurore was born into and raised in a Roman Catholic family as the second of five children of farmer Télesphore Gagnon and his first wife Marie-Anne Caron, whom he married in September 1906. They lived in Fortierville, Quebec, a small village on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, a hundred kilometers southwest of Quebec. The Gagnons' first child Marie-Jeanne was born in August 1907. Aurore's birth was quickly followed by that of Lucina then Georges in 1910 and Joseph in 1915.
In 1916, not long after Joseph's birth, Marie-Anne Caron was hospitalized for tuberculosis. Marie-Anne Houde, the widow of a cousin of Télesphore, soon moved into the Gagnon home, claiming she wanted to "take care of the house and children." She was a 30-something-year-old mother of two sons, Gerard and Henri-Georges. She was born in Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard, a neighboring municipality of Fortierville, Quebec. On 6 November 1917, 2-year-old Joseph was found dead in his bed. A coroner's inquest revealed that it had been a natural death, although some villagers suspected that Marie-Anne Houde might have had something to do with it.

Elle se pique aussitôt au fuseau et s’endort, en même temps que tous les habitants du château. Au cours des ans, celui-ci est recouvert de végétation. Il n’est redécouvert qu’après 100 ans, lorsqu’un fils de roi y pénètre et réveille la princesse. Deux ans plus tard, la princesse et le prince eurent deux enfants : Aurore et Jour. Malheureusement le prince et le Roi partirent à la guerre. La princesse resta donc au château avec la belle-reine, laquelle était issue d'une famille d'ogres. La reine demanda au maître d'hôtel de lui préparer le fils Jour en guise de déjeuner et la petite Aurore en guise de dîner. Mais le maître d'hôtel, homme de très bon cœur, cacha les enfants et servit de la viande animale à la belle-reine. le conte: Parmi les versions les plus célèbres figurent celle de Charles Perrault, publiée en 1697 dans Les Contes de ma mère l'Oye, et celle des frères Grimm (Dornröschen) publiée en 1812. La version de Perrault est basée sur Le Soleil, la Lune et Thalie de Giambattista Basile (publié à titre posthume en 1634), un conte lui-même basé sur un ou plusieurs contes populaires. Une des premières versions connues de l'histoire est Perceforest, composé entre 1330 et 1344 et imprimé en 1528. Mais on peut aussi mentionner la version provençale (parfois considérée comme catalane) de la même époque que constitue Frayre de Joy e Sor de Plaser. In 1916, Marie-Ann was hospitalized for tuberculosis, in the meantime, a widow cousin of Telesphore, Marie-Anne Houde, moved in to the Gagnon home saying she wanted to help "take care of the children". She moved into the home with her two sons Gerard and Henri-Georges.
On November 6th 1917, two-year-old Joseph was found dead in his bed, although his death was suggested natural, some of the villagers became suspicious and thought Marie-Anne had something to do with it. On January 23rd 1918, Marie-Ann Caron died of tuberculosis. A week later, Telesphore and Marie-Anne married. The villagers became even more suspicious when Gerard and Heri-Georges subsequently died in the home. During this time, Telesphore began beating Aurore with an axe handle at the age of 10. In 1919, Aurore was hospitalized for over a month with a sever leg infection caused by the beating. While she was in the hospital, she wrote a letter to her family saying she missed them, but it is thought that only Marie-Anne Houde saw the letter and hid it from Telesphore and the other children. When Aurore returned home, she was continuously beaten again. Marie-Jeanne made efforts to try to protect Aurore but Marie-Anne Houde and Telesphore got mad when she did, Telesphore once hit Marie-Jeanne, and Marie-Anne Houde yelled at her after she shoved Aurore's crutch at him after he pushed it out of her hand as she was coming down the stairs.
One day, Aurore came downstairs in her underwear and Marie-Anne told her to get back upstairs, Telesphore saw Aurore and the bruises, cuts and burns on her body, Marie-Anne tried to convince Telesphore that what he saw were injuries but a bad skin condition that she had.
On February 12th 1920, Jesus saved Aurore from suffering.
Aurore died in the late hours of the evening. The villagers who had became so suspicious, contacted the Priest who refused to except that Marie-Anne Houde was beating Aurore and he called Aurore a liar, the villagers made him contact the Archbishop who made arrangements for police and a doctor to visit the home, when they arrived at the home Aurore was lying stiff, not moving or breathing in her bed, Marie-Jeanne was by her side and the doctor looked at Aurore's vital signs and declared her dead.

These clips were taken from the film Aurore which was filmed in the 1950's just 30 years after Aurore's death.
Marie-Aurore Lucienne Gagnon, or just Aurore was born on May 31st 1909 to her parents Telesphore Gagnon and Marie-Ann Caron.
Aurore was the second of the five Gagnon children. Marie-Jeanne, Aurore, Lucina, Georges-Etienne and Joseph.
In 1916, Marie-Ann was hospitalized for tuberculosis, in the meantime, a widow cousin of Telesphore, Marie-Anne Houde, moved in to the Gagnon home saying she wanted to help "take care of the children". She moved into the home with her two sons Gerard and Henri-Georges.
On November 6th 1917, two-year-old Joseph was found dead in his bed, although his death was suggested natural, some of the villagers became suspicious and thought Marie-Anne had something to do with it. On January 23rd 1918, Marie-Ann Caron died of tuberculosis. A week later, Telesphore and Marie-Anne married. The villagers became even more suspicious when Gerard and Heri-Georges subsequently died in the home. During this time, Telesphore began beating Aurore with an axe handle at the age of 10. In 1919, Aurore was hospitalized for over a month with a sever leg infection caused by the beating. While she was in the hospital, she wrote a letter to her family saying she missed them, but it is thought that only Marie-Anne Houde saw the letter and hid it from Telesphore and the other children. When Aurore returned home, she was continuously beaten again. Marie-Jeanne made efforts to try to protect Aurore but Marie-Anne Houde and Telesphore got mad when she did, Telesphore once hit Marie-Jeanne, and Marie-Anne Houde yelled at her after she shoved Aurore's crutch at him after he pushed it out of her hand as she was coming down the stairs.
One day, Aurore came downstairs in her underwear and Marie-Anne told her to get back upstairs, Telesphore saw Aurore and the bruises, cuts and burns on her body, Marie-Anne tried to convince Telesphore that what he saw were injuries but a bad skin condition that she had.
On February 12th 1920, Jesus saved Aurore from suffering.
Aurore died in the late hours of the evening. The villagers who had became so suspicious, contacted the Priest who refused to except that Marie-Anne Houde was beating Aurore and he called Aurore a liar, the villagers made him contact the Archbishop who made arrangements for police and a doctor to visit the home, when they arrived at the home Aurore was lying stiff, not moving or breathing in her bed, Marie-Jeanne was by her side and the doctor looked at Aurore's vital signs and declared her dead.

À l’occasion du baptême de la princesse, le roi et la reine organisent une fête somptueuse, invitant famille, amis et sept fées marraines bienveillantes de l'enfant. Chacune d'elles offre un don à la princesse : beauté, grâce, etc. Brusquement une vieille fée, qui n’a pas été invitée, se présente et lance à la princesse un charme mortel : la princesse se piquera le doigt sur le fuseau d'un rouet et en mourra. Heureusement, une des jeunes fées marraines qui s'était cachée pour parler en dernier atténue la malédiction : « Au lieu d’en mourir, elle tombera seulement dans un profond sommeil qui durera 100 ans, au terme desquels le fils d’un roi viendra la réveiller ».
Pour protéger sa fille, le roi fait immédiatement interdire de filer au fuseau ou d’avoir un fuseau sous peine de mort. Pourtant, vers ses quinze ans, dans une partie reculée du château, la princesse découvre une vieille fileuse qui ne connait pas l’interdiction. Elle se pique aussitôt au fuseau et s’endort, en même temps que tous les habitants du château. Au cours des ans, celui-ci est recouvert de végétation. Il n’est redécouvert qu’après 100 ans, lorsqu’un fils de roi y pénètre et réveille la princesse.
Deux ans plus tard, la princesse et le prince eurent deux enfants : Aurore et Jour. Malheureusement le prince et le Roi partirent à la guerre. La princesse resta donc au château avec la belle-reine, laquelle était issue d'une famille d'ogres. La reine demanda au maître d'hôtel de lui préparer le fils Jour en guise de déjeuner et la petite Aurore en guise de dîner. Mais le maître d'hôtel, homme de très bon cœur, cacha les enfants et servit de la viande animale à la belle-reine.

Parmi les versions les plus célèbres figurent celle de Charles Perrault, publiée en 1697 dans Les Contes de ma mère l'Oye, et celle des frères Grimm (Dornröschen) publiée en 1812. La version de Perrault est basée sur Le Soleil, la Lune et Thalie de Giambattista Basile (publié à titre posthume en 1634), un conte lui-même basé sur un ou plusieurs contes populaires. Une des premières versions connues de l'histoire est Perceforest, composé entre 1330 et 1344 et imprimé en 1528. Mais on peut aussi mentionner la version provençale (parfois considérée comme catalane) de la même époque que constitue Frayre de Joy e Sor de Plaser.
