Furio Scarpelli (16 December 1919 – 28 April 2010), also called Scarpelli, was an Italian screenwriter, famous for his collaboration on numerous Commedia all'italiana films with Agenore Incrocci, forming the duo Age & Scarpelli.
He was the son of journalist Filiberto Scarpelli. During his childhood he devoted himself to writing and drawing. During World War II, he started to work as an illustrator for satire magazines, together with Federico Fellini and Ettore Scola, and he met Agenore Incrocci, best known as Age.
Furio was born and died in Rome, Italy.
In 1949, he started his famous collaboration with Age as the duo Age & Scarpelli, writing some of the first Totò successes until 1952.
Together with Age, he worked on a total of 120 Italian movies. These include some of the most famous of all, such as Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Mario Monicelli's I soliti ignoti. After closing his relationship with Age, he wrote several movies with Ettore Scola, and the first works of directors such as Francesca Archibugi and Paolo Virzì. His third Nomination to Oscar was for Il postino (The Postman), written with his son Giacomo. He also taught at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia. Posthumous the film Tormenti (2011), from his graphic novel.
Luciano Vincenzoni (Italian pronunciation: [luˈtʃano vintʃenˈtsoni]; 7 March 1926 – 22 September 2013) was an Italian screenwriter, known as the "script doctor". He wrote for some 65 films between 1954 and 2000.
Vincenzoni was born in Treviso, Veneto. He is probably best known in world cinema for his script writing of Sergio Leone's For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 1966, but he also wrote for a number of other Spaghetti Westerns.
He was capable on the business side of film making and his strong relations with popular and important people in the industry helped him to sell For a Few Dollars More to the European vice-president of United Artists. During the bargaining session, in front of Sergio Leone, he made an on-the-spot deal for the upcoming The Good the Bad and the Ugly, which was then just a vague idea in his mind at the time. Vincenzoni had started to develop the story all the way back from his earlier film, called La Grande Guerra (1959), about two Italian soldiers in World War I. The title, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly was his idea, which he created on the spot.
Sergio Leone (Italian: [ˈsɛrdʒo leˈɔːne]; 3 January 1929 – 30 April 1989) was an Italian film director, producer and screenwriter most associated with the "Spaghetti Western" genre.
Leone's film-making style includes juxtaposing extreme close-up shots with lengthy long shots. His movies include the sword and sandal action films The Last Days of Pompeii (1959) and The Colossus of Rhodes (1961), the Dollars Trilogy of Westerns featuring Clint Eastwood (A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965) and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)), the Western Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), the epic buddy Zapata Western Duck, You Sucker! (1971) and the epic crime drama Once Upon a Time in America (1984).
Born in Rome, Leone was the son of the cinema pioneer Vincenzo Leone (known as director Roberto Roberti or Leone Roberto Roberti) and the silent film actress Edvige Valcarenghi (Bice Waleran). During his schooldays, Leone was a classmate of his later musical collaborator Ennio Morricone for a time. After watching his father work on film sets, Leone began his own career in the film industry at the age of 18 after dropping out of law studies at the university.
Plato describes "The Form of the Good", or more literally "the idea of the good" (ἡ τοῦ ἀγαθοῦ ἰδέα), in his dialogue the Republic (508e2–3), speaking through the character of Socrates. Plato introduces several forms in his works, but identifies the Form of the Good as the superlative. This form is the one that allows a philosopher-in-training to advance to a philosopher-king. It cannot be clearly seen or explained, but once it is recognized, it is the form that allows one to realize all the other forms.
The first references we see in The Republic to the Form of the Good can be found within the conversation between Glaucon and Socrates (454 c–d). When trying to answer such difficult questions pertaining to the definition of justice, Plato identifies that we should not “introduce every form of difference and sameness in nature” instead we must focus “on the one form of sameness and difference that was relevant to the particular ways of life themselves” which is the Form of the Good. This Form is the basis for understanding all other Forms, it is what allows us to understand everything else. Through the conversation between Socrates and Glaucon (508 a–c) Plato analogizes the Form of the Good with the sun as it is what allows us to see things. Here, Plato describes how the sun allows for sight. But he makes a very important distinction, “sun is not sight” but it is “the cause of sight itself.” As the sun is in the visible realm, the Form of Good is in the intelligible realm. It is “what gives truth to the things known and the power to know to the knower”. It is not only the “cause of knowledge and truth, it is also an object of knowledge”.
The Ugly is a 1997 New Zealand horror film, the first feature directed and written by Scott Reynolds. The film starred Paolo Rotondo, Rebecca Hobbs, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, and Roy Ward. The film is about a psychiatrist that is meeting with a serial killer to determine whether or not he has been successfully cured. They delve into a journey through his past and his victims, and through this "The Ugly," a distorted allusion to The Ugly Duckling, is revealed. It was nominated for best film awards at festivals in New Zealand, Portugal and the United States.
The film takes place in an old, worn down insane asylum in Auckland, New Zealand, run by Dr. Marlowe (Roy Ward). Simon Cartwright (Paolo Rotondo), one of his patients, is seeking an appeal from a psychiatrist to get a reevaluation of his mental state. He wants to prove that he’s been cured; Simon is a serial killer that has killed over a dozen different people. He wants a psychiatrist from outside of the asylum to take his case, and he specifically asks for Dr. Karen Shumaker. Dr. Shumaker (Rebecca Hobbs) has recently gained some publicity from winning a case involving another serial killer.

Per i grandi sceneggiatori del nostro cinema; oggi siamo in compagnia di Age e Scarpelli, tra i padri riconosciuti della commedia all'italiana; e proprio delle caratteristiche di questo tipo di cinema, assolutamente originale, studiato e copiato all'estero, Age e Scarpelli spiegano le coordinate e gli elementi fondativi, in una divertente chiacchierata con l'amico Citto Maselli;
Set during the Civil War, three disparate drifters...(the pancho-clad, cigar-chewing, silent but supremely self-confident 'Man with No Name'--the Good; the evil bounty hunter--the Bad; and a renegade Mexican bandit--the Ugly)...search for a Confederate cash box containing $200,000 which is hidden in a distant cemetery in an unmarked grave. The journey to the cemetery will carry them through the ferocity of the Civil War landscape. Sometimes they will masquerade as Yankees, sometimes as Confederates. They will taunt and ridicule each other. They will arrive at the cemetery. They will find the treasure. They will disagree and it will be time for the real violence to begin... Sergio Leone's epic Western masterpiece and the third film in the 'Dollars' trilogy. Music by Ennio Morricone....
