Hospital

A hospital is a health care institution providing patient treatment with specialized staff and equipment. The best-known type of hospital is the general hospital, which has an emergency department. A district hospital typically is the major health care facility in its region, with large numbers of beds for intensive care and long-term care. Specialised hospitals include trauma centres, rehabilitation hospitals, children's hospitals, seniors' (geriatric) hospitals, and hospitals for dealing with specific medical needs such as psychiatric problems (see psychiatric hospital) and certain disease categories. Specialised hospitals can help reduce health care costs compared to general hospitals.

A teaching hospital combines assistance to people with teaching to medical students and nurses. The medical facility smaller than a hospital is generally called a clinic. Hospitals have a range of departments (e.g., surgery, and urgent care) and specialist units such as cardiology. Some hospitals have outpatient departments and some have chronic treatment units. Common support units include a pharmacy, pathology, and radiology.

The Greater Tokyo Area, which includes Tokyo and several surrounding prefectures, is the world's largest metropolitan area with over 35 million residents and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy.

When the tsunami struck the port area a year ago, on what the Japanese referred to as "3/11", the institution was the only one able to function. Every other hospitals and clinics were destroyed or disabled by the floods. The Red Cross Hospital had an earthquake-resistant structure and many other safety features. But perhaps, just as important, was its disaster response manual with the names of officers responsible for different duties. All staff had gone through simulation exercises and training, explained Abe, of the planning and coordination department. Within four minutes after the earthquake which preceded the tsunami, the hospital's disaster headquarters was ready, while it took an hour to set up a triage in the lobby. They treated almost 4,000 patients in the first week, roughly eight times the usual number. The hospital normally had 1,800 patients per month. Even with the phone lines down, the staff soldiered on. They didn't even know if their own families and homes had survived. After a week, they found out that they had lost 40 family members. "Before 3/11, the concentration was on the possibility of a major earthquake, not a tsunami. This was outside the scope of people's expectations," said Abe. But with emergency response training and high morale, the staff adapted. "You should not preconceive what disaster you are prepared for. In addition to basic preparations, you need to be flexible with countermeasures against the unexpected." By Santha Oorjitham

Aqui tienen una investigación que se realizo por un video aficionado en referencia al Hospital Embrujado Japones.... Lo interesante es que nunca se supo en realidad que programa de t.v. era pero el investigador se dedico a tener toda la información referente al caso y grande fue la sorpresa al descubrir que la conductora del programa era una edecan de una agencia de talentos (que se suicido 3 dias despues de dicho programa) y su enlace en la página web fué borrado. Buscó directamente la casa en la que entrevistaron al primer sujeto que visitó el Hospital (basandose en la dirección del video original) y lo que sucede es impactante.... Después contacta al productor de la televisora (que no quiere ser grabado) y monta una cámara escondida y él le entrega el video tape original de lo sucedido en el hospital. Así se determina que la primera aparición que la conductora ve es el de una enfermera .... y lo demas... es historia.

Japanese people choose to use a hospital instead of a clinic when they have been referred to it by a clinic, if the hospital is conveniently located, or when they simply want to receive care from a well-equipped facility. Some people even visit the hospital to receive treatment for the common cold! Hospitals do not usually require an appointment for the first consultation. These patients need to make their visit between 9 am and 11 am. Afternoon appointments are generally only available to returning patients. Appointments are often made by calling a hospital’s appointment line, but the phone operators may only be available for a short time, such as from 1 pm to 3 pm. Hospitals are closed for non-emergency patients on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Emergency patients are only accepted at locally designated emergency hospitals. In case of emergency, be very careful to check whether or not a hospital will be able to accept you before attempting to make a visit. Please see our Emergency Clinics and hospitals page for details. In Japan, almost all hospitals are accessible to patients without a doctor’s referral. However, hospitals are allowed to charge an extra fee to patients without a referral. These fees range from 2,000 to 5,000 yen. Most hospitals accept Japanese Health Insurance and charge 30% of the total fees to the patient. However, costs some private hospitals charge higher rates than public hospitals. Hospitals that accept credit cards are quite limited. It is best to prepare cash.
