The will to power (German: der Wille zur Macht) is a prominent concept in the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche. The will to power describes what Nietzsche may have believed to be the main driving force in humans – namely, achievement, ambition, and the striving to reach the highest possible position in life. These are all manifestations of the will to power; however, the concept was never systematically defined in Nietzsche's work, leaving its interpretation open to debate.
Alfred Adler incorporated the will to power into his individual psychology. This can be contrasted to the other Viennese schools of psychotherapy: Sigmund Freud's pleasure principle (will to pleasure) and Viktor Frankl's logotherapy (will to meaning). Each of these schools advocates and teaches a very different essential driving force in man.
Some of the misconceptions of the will to power, including Nazi appropriation of Nietzsche's philosophy, arise from overlooking Nietzsche's distinction between kraft (force) and macht (power).Kraft is primordial strength that may be exercised by anything possessing it, while Macht is, within Nietzsche's philosophy, closely tied to sublimation and "self-overcoming", the conscious channeling of Kraft for creative purposes.

In this lecture we investigate Nietzsche's doctrine of the will to power by contrasting it with materialism, a metaphysical account of the universe which has dominated scientific thought for the last 3 centuries. We also introduce the ideas of Alfred North Whitehead, and point out the similarity between his ideas and Nietzsche's. For more lectures visit www.academyofideas.com

This Tease is generated using T, one of the most advanced artificial intelligence technology platforms ever created. It includes relevant Thoughts such as: His positive ethical views are best understood as combining (i) a kind of consequentialist perfectionism as Nietzsche's implicit theory of the good, with (ii) a conception of human perfection involving both formal and substantive elements. The teacher who corrected the essay gave it a good mark but commented that Nietzsche should concern himself in the future with healthier, more lucid , and more "German" writers. This video is 6th in the 8-part series, Nietzsche and the Postmodern Condition (1991). Lecture notes: I. A myth about Nietzsche is that his work is related to Fascism This is because his texts have been used by socialist organizations Nietzsche viewed himself as a "good European" rather than a "good German". Nietzsche scorned German nationalism. Many interesting tex have risks. The return of Nietzsche in the 60′s and his re-return in the 80′s and 90′s, have been interpreted as anarchist and left-wing. Nietzsche's text allows for multiple political uses. II. "The Will to Power" is the name of a text was compiled by Nietzsche's sister. A. Nietzsche's view of power is not as simple as the domination of one person over another. This is because there is no essential self, only multipl...
http://www.zazzle.com/itheist A comprehensive lecture concerning wille Zur macht. In this video/lecture I will be expounding and articulating the central tenet of Fredrich Nietzsche's philosophy he entitled "wille Zur macht" or in english "will to power". To accomplish this task I will be quoting generously from The published works of Fredrich Nietzsche as well as from his book "Der Wille Zur macht" which was a collection of his unpublished notations which were published by his sister Elizabeth after his death. I will also be quoting from the published works of Benjamin DeCasseres who was a brilliant essayist, Nietzschean idealist, individualist anarchist, and some what of a mystical poet who lived from 1873 to 1945. It is interesting to note that he was also a distant relative of Spinoza...

I'm not in love, so don't forget it
It's just a silly phase I'm going through
And just because I call you up
Don't get me wrong, don't think you've got it made
I'm not in love, oh no, just because
I like to see you, but then again
That doesn't mean you mean that much to me
So if I call you, don't make a fuss
Don't tell your friends about the two of us
I'm not in love, no, no, just because
(There's something about the way she makes me feel)
Ooh, you wait a long time for me
Ooh, you wait a long time
Just because
Ooh, you wait a long time for me
Ooh, you wait a long time
I keep your picture upon the wall
It hides a nasty stain that's lyin' there
But don't you ask me to give it back
I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me
