Never Be

"Never Be" is a song recorded by Australian singer Meg Mac. The song was released for digital download on 7 August 2015. "Never Be" gave Mac her first ARIA Chart top 50 entry, peaking at number 39. The song was voted in at number 11 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2015.

At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 "Never Be" was nominated for Breakthrough Artist, but lost to Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit by Courtney Barnett.

In an interview with News Corp Mac explained "Never Be" cautions against the 'grass is greener' envy of other people’s lives. She said "“I noticed people think my life is super cool; it’s crazy to hear what people think the reality is of what I do. The most popular misconception is probably that touring in America is glamorous when it’s counting your pimples while sitting in a van for hours.”

In an interview with Guardian Australia Mac’s described the song’s chorus was written while in her car 'tapping the steering wheel and singing over the top'. Mac explained she was forced to keep singing what she’d composed in her head, over and over until she reached home as her phone battery was dead. “That is maybe where the repetition came from,” she says. “And that’s my favourite thing about the song, how it feels like a chant you can tell yourself over and over.”

5 Seconds of Summer

5 Seconds of Summer (commonly abbreviated as 5SOS) are an Australian rock band from Sydney that formed in 2011. The group were originally YouTube celebrities, posting videos of themselves covering songs from various artists during 2011 and early 2012. They rose to international fame while touring with One Direction on the Take Me Home Tour.

The group have been referred to as a boy band in the media, though the members reject this description. In early 2014, the band released "She Looks So Perfect" worldwide as its debut single, which topped the charts in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The self-titled debut studio album was released in June 2014, which peaked #1 in 11 countries, and followed by a live album titled LiveSOS. The band released their second album Sounds Good Feels Good in 2015.

2011–12: Origin and debut

5 Seconds of Summer began in 2011 when Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood, who all attended Norwest Christian College, started posting videos of themselves performing covers of popular songs together on Hemmings' YouTube channel. Hemmings' first video, a cover of Mike Posner's "Please Don't Go", was posted on 3 February 2011. Their cover of Chris Brown's "Next to You" received over 600,000 hits. In December 2011, they were joined by drummer Ashton Irwin, and the four-man line up was completed.

Never Be Like You

"Never Be Like You" is song by Australian musician Flume featuring vocals by Kai. It was released on 16 January 2016 by Future Classic. The song debuted at number 10 on the ARIA Singles Chart, later reaching number one and becoming Flume's first song to top the chart.

In a press release, Flume said, "Kai and I were sending ideas back and forth online, then met up in New York and went into the studio. We laid down some chords and started an idea but weren't feeling inspired. So we went out into the night for a few hours and when we returned, it all started to come together."

"Diplo-endorsed singer Kai provides sumptuous and sterling vocals over sparkling half-time drops, like an instrumental B-side from FutureSex LoveSounds. The new R&B look is a good one for Flume."
