For the very first time, Mixmag Live departed the UK and arrived in the United States. Deservingly, New York City was the first to host Mixmag Live abroad.
Brooklyn's premier nightclub Output hosted Mixmag Live's debut in North America, which honored a league of pioneers not only in techno, but also in music technology.
RICHIE HAWTIN led the charge at Mixmag Live, presenting his MODEL 1 PLAYdifferently mixer alongside a strong showing of talents including house artist Louie Vega, MODEL 1 ambassador Matador and rising star Julia Govor. The party's was celebration of the December Tech Issue which features Hawtin, Matador, Nicole Moudaber, Hito, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Loco Dice, Paco Osuna and Fabio Florido.
MATADOR arrives by way of Dublin, a techno maverick and unstoppable force all over the world from Ibiza to Berlin and Los Angeles to Miami.
Together, the league arrives as ambassadors of MODEL 1 and masters of their craft. It's set to be a special night in Brooklyn for this Mixmag Live celebration of all things music and technology with some of the underground's finest.

Notes from the Jaman Lounge, SXSW festival review
As a composer, I found the challenge in The Matador to create a score which had Spanish character without resorting to cliche'. The film included extended bullfighting sequence with sparse VO - allowing for extended music cues creating a sort of music video. For these sequences, I imagined that I was post scoring a kind a ballet - one that was,perhaps, primitive and cruel, but a ballet nonetheless. This particular scene "Bloodsport" (called "La Corrida Purpura" on The Matador CD) is the longest and most complex in the film in this respect.

Straight off the back of a fine new EP released just before Xmas and incredible run of shows over Christmas and New Year, Irish techno hero Matador is riding high and is ready to unleash a second EP of weapons on this new release. All the cuts on it have been road-tested to destruction at Timewarp, Lovelands, Awakenings, Verboten, Fabric and many other shows around the world.
Matadors year started off with a very special ALL LIVE Loveland party celebrating the Amsterdam dance institutions 20th anniversary and has already clocked up appearances at Fabric in London and Sankey's in Manchester so far this year.
BSunday kicks the EP off in moody style, with raw analogue lines unfolding over lively drums. Big percussive circles and tripped melodies also flesh out this killer groove. DaHustle is then a more groovy thing with nimble bass notes, charming sense of atmosphere and colourful synth patterns running through the arrangement. The arpeggiated bass, when it lands, has sent floors into overdrive at all Matador's sets of late.
I Gotcha takes cues from classic house with its pining cow bells, and the mid tempo drums rock back and forth as dark voices and spraying synths all work to get you shaking your backside. Song 2 then goes all deep and stripped back, with wooden hits, curious synth patterns and oodles of groaning bass before closer Vagenda marries elastic beats and bass with sci-fi melodies, lots of thick texture and warm atmospheres.
Every track here is sure to do a fine job on the dance floor, and each one proves that Matador has many different but equally essential tricks up his sleeve.

Torero
A torero (Spanish: [toˈɾeɾo]) or toureiro (Portuguese: [toˈɾɐjɾu]) (both from Latin taurarius, bullfighter), is a bullfighter and the main performer in the sport of bullfighting as practised in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Peru, France and other countries influenced by Spanish culture. In Spanish, the word torero describes any of the performers who participate in the bullfight. The main performer, who is the leader of an entourage and the one who kills the bull, is addressed as maestro (master), and his formal title is matador de toros (killer of bulls). The term torero encompasses all who fight the bull in the ring (picadores and rejoneadores). The other bullfighters in the entourage are called subalternos and their suits are embroidered in silver as opposed to the matador's more-theatrical gold.
In English, the torero is sometimes called the toreador. The term does not exist in Spanish; it was invented by Georges Bizet for his opera Carmen. He needed the syllables of the word to match the timing of the song.

Los Fabulosos Cadillacs
Los Fabulosos Cadillacs is an Argentine ska band from Buenos Aires. Formed in 1985, they released their first album, Bares y Fondas (Bars and Boardinghouses) in 1986. Since then they have released fourteen more albums. They are one of the most influential and most-referenced rock bands of the Latin rock world.
The band's sound is a mix of rock, ska, jazz, folk, reggae, funk and big band. It is also noted for its irreverent and humorous lyrics which often contain political undertones. The lineup has changed throughout the years, but the core members have always been the co-founders: singer Gabriel Fernandez Capello (known as Vicentico) and bassist Flavio Cianciarulo (known as Sr. Flavio). Vicentico and Sr. Flavio have done the majority of the songwriting and lyrics as well. Saxist Sergio Rotman, Drummer Fernando Ricciardi and keyboardist Mario Siperman have also been featured in all lineups of the band.
The band, which collaborated with some music stars such as Mick Jones, Debbie Harry, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades and Fishbone, received the MTV Latino Video Music Award in 1994 for the single "El Matador", in what probably was the peak of popularity of the band. The song made an appearance on the soundtracks for the movies Savages, Grosse Pointe Blank and The Matador. On September 29 of that year they produced an MTV Unplugged concert. The Cadillacs also won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, and were nominated in the 2000 Latin Grammy Awards for Best Band and Best Music Video ("La Vida"), which received the now-defunct International Viewer's Choice Award (Southern Region) at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.

Touch of Death
The touch of death (or Death-point striking) refers to any martial arts technique reputed to kill using seemingly less than lethal force targeted at specific areas of the body.
The concept known as dim mak (simplified Chinese: 点脉; traditional Chinese: 點脈; pinyin: diǎnmài; Jyutping: dim2 mak6; literally: "press artery"), alternatively diǎnxué (simplified Chinese: 点穴; traditional Chinese: 點穴) traces its history to traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture. Tales of its use are often found in the Wuxia genre of Chinese martial arts fiction. Dim mak is depicted as a secret body of knowledge with techniques that attack pressure points and meridians, said to incapacitate or sometimes cause immediate or even delayed death to an opponent. Little scientific or historical evidence exists for the existence of a martial arts "touch of death", although mild trauma may cause disproportionately catastrophic consequences when applied to known pressure points under specific circumstances.
The concept known as vibrating palm originates with the Chinese martial arts Neijing ("internal") energy techniques that deal with the qi energy and the type of force (jin) used. It is depicted as "a technique that is part psychic and part vibratory, this energy is then focused into a wave".

The Matador
The Matador is a 2005 dark comedy film written and directed by Richard Shepard and starring Pierce Brosnan and Greg Kinnear. The film was released on DVD on July 4, 2006 and on HD DVD on December 18, 2006.
Plot
An encounter in the bar of the Mexico City branch of the Camino Real Hotels, between tired businessman Danny Wright (Greg Kinnear), hoping to land a life-saving contract in Mexico, and jaded, falling-apart-at-the-seams assassin Julian Noble (Pierce Brosnan), leads both men into an awkward friendship. Julian is confronting the immorality of his profession and experiencing a mid-life crisis that causes him to freeze on a job; Danny is fearing that a vitally important deal will fall through and cost him his job. After an uncomfortable-at-times conversation, Danny leaves the bar. Julian apologizes and invites him to see a bullfight. During the spectacle, Julian reveals the kind of work he truly does, and when Danny is skeptical, takes Danny through the steps of murdering a portly spectator in the arena bathroom. Danny is shocked at how easily Julian can get within inches of the man, even though Julian ends the "tutorial" without going through with the murder.

Brooklyn's premier nightclub Output hosted Mixmag Live's debut in North America, which honored a league of pioneers not only in techno, but also in music technology.
RICHIE HAWTIN led the charge at Mixmag Live, presenting his MODEL 1 PLAYdifferently mixer alongside a strong showing of talents including house artist Louie Vega, MODEL 1 ambassador Matador and rising star Julia Govor. The party's was celebration of the December Tech Issue which features Hawtin, Matador, Nicole Moudaber, Hito, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Loco Dice, Paco Osuna and Fabio Florido.
MATADOR arrives by way of Dublin, a techno maverick and unstoppable force all over the world from Ibiza to Berlin and Los Angeles to Miami.

As a composer, I found the challenge in The Matador to create a score which had Spanish character without resorting to cliche'. The film included extended bullfighting sequence with sparse VO - allowing for extended music cues creating a sort of music video. For these sequences, I imagined that I was post scoring a kind a ballet - one that was,perhaps, primitive and cruel, but a ballet nonetheless. This particular scene "Bloodsport" (called "La Corrida Purpura" on The Matador CD) is the longest and most complex in the film in this respect.

BSunday kicks the EP off in moody style, with raw analogue lines unfolding over lively drums. Big percussive circles and tripped melodies also flesh out this killer groove. DaHustle is then a more groovy thing with nimble bass notes, charming sense of atmosphere and colourful synth patterns running through the arrangement. The arpeggiated bass, when it lands, has sent floors into overdrive at all Matador's sets of late.
I Gotcha takes cues from classic house with its pining cow bells, and the mid tempo drums rock back and forth as dark voices and spraying synths all work to get you shaking your backside. Song 2 then goes all deep and stripped back, with wooden hits, curious synth patterns and oodles of groaning bass before closer Vagenda marries elastic beats and bass with sci-fi melodies, lots of thick texture and warm atmospheres.
Every track here is sure to do a fine job on the dance floor, and each one proves that Matador has many different but equally essential tricks up his sleeve.
