The Democratic Party is the longest-existing political party in the US, and arguably the world. But in its over 180 year existence, it's completed a remarkable ideological and geographic transformation. Originally a staunch defender of Southern slavery, the party now wins the support of most nonwhite voters. Once an advocate of rural interests against coastal elites, the party now draws much of its strength from cities and coastal areas. When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats?
Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.
Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination.
The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.
In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans.
The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln – the man who freed the slaves.
Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order.
Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support.
During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.
But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes – laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote.
And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest.
As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:
“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.”

The Democratic Party in the United States of America is dead and has been for quite a while now. Maybe not so much in local elections in large cities, or even some small cities with liberal leanings, but they are most certainly no longer relevant in a larger sense. No longer will they be able to take over the White House. Barack Obama was their last hope and he failed in an epic way. Nobody that the Democrats have on their side as of today can defeat either Donald Trump or Mike Pence in an election. So for the next 8 to 16 years, the White House will be red.
Trump is in office right now during a period of time where up to 2 more justices can (and will) be selected under him. Which means the current 5-4 split which is already in favor of conservatives on the bench will upgrade to a 7-2 split. Then there is the matter of the House and Senate, both of which are controlled by Republicans. How will the Democrats be able to take either one, when their attempts to gain any ground this far in 2017 have been epic failures - most notably that of one Jon Ossoff who essentially set $23 million dollars on fire?
The rhetoric the Democrats push while on the campaign trail is unbelievably toxic. Scaling back their violent speech and extremist points of view on social issues may help them gain some voters in the center/center-right but it will alienate many that they have gained on the far left. At best, trying to reform their party will be the equivalent to a lateral move. Democrats have painted themselves into a corner. No sympathy should be given to them, however. Poisonous identity politics and failure to enact sound policy in the areas they run are the reason for their demise. It should be allowed to happen so the country can move forward in a *truly* progressive fashion.

Democratic Party (Italy)
The Democratic Party (Italian: Partito Democratico, PD) is a social-democraticpolitical party in Italy.
The party's leader is Matteo Renzi, who replaced Guglielmo Epifani as national secretary after the November–December 2013 leadership election. Renzi was the fifth leader of the party in six years (see list).
The PD was founded on 14 October 2007 as a merger of various centre-left parties which had been part of The Union in the 2006 general election. At foundation the majority of the PD was formed by the Democrats of the Left (heirs of the Italian Communist Party) and the largely Catholic-inspired Democracy is Freedom – The Daisy. Within the party, an important role is thus played by Christian leftists, who are direct heirs of the former Christian Democracy's left.
After the resignation of Silvio Berlusconi as Prime Minister in November 2011, the PD gave external support to Mario Monti's technocratic government. Since April 2013 Enrico Letta, a Democrat, was Prime Minister, at the head of a government sustained by a grand coalition including The People of Freedom (later replaced by the New Centre-Right), Civic Choice (later divided in two, after the split of the Populars for Italy) and the Union of the Centre. Following his election as party leader, in February 2014 Renzi called for "a new phase" and, consequently, the party's national board voted to ask Letta to resign. Subsequently, Renzi was sworn in as Prime Minister at the head of the same coalition.

Description
Some parties are held in honor of a specific person, day, or event, such as a birthday party, a Super Bowl party, or a St. Patrick’s Day party. Parties of this kind are often called celebrations. A party is not necessarily a private occasion. Public parties are sometimes held in restaurants, pubs, beer gardens, nightclubs or bars, and people attending such parties may be charged an admission fee by the host. Large parties in public streets may celebrate events such as Mardi Gras or the signing of a peace treaty ending a long war.

Scaling back their violent speech and extremist points of view on social issues may help them gain some voters in the center/center-right but it will alienate many that they have gained on the far left. At best, trying to reform their party will be the equivalent to a lateral move. Democrats have painted themselves into a corner. No sympathy should be given to them, however. When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats?
Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.
Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination.
The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.
In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans.
The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln – the man who freed the slaves.
Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order.
Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support.
During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.
But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes – laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote.
And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest.
As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:
“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.”

The Democratic Party in the United States of America is dead and has been for quite a while now. Maybe not so much in local elections in large cities, or even ...
The Democratic Party in the United States of America is dead and has been for quite a while now. Maybe not so much in local elections in large cities, or even some small cities with liberal leanings, but they are most certainly no longer relevant in a larger sense. No longer will they be able to take over the White House. Barack Obama was their last hope and he failed in an epic way. Nobody that the Democrats have on their side as of today can defeat either Donald Trump or Mike Pence in an election. So for the next 8 to 16 years, the White House will be red.
Trump is in office right now during a period of time where up to 2 more justices can (and will) be selected under him. Which means the current 5-4 split which is already in favor of conservatives on the bench will upgrade to a 7-2 split. Then there is the matter of the House and Senate, both of which are controlled by Republicans. How will the Democrats be able to take either one, when their attempts to gain any ground this far in 2017 have been epic failures - most notably that of one Jon Ossoff who essentially set $23 million dollars on fire?
The rhetoric the Democrats push while on the campaign trail is unbelievably toxic. Scaling back their violent speech and extremist points of view on social issues may help them gain some voters in the center/center-right but it will alienate many that they have gained on the far left. At best, trying to reform their party will be the equivalent to a lateral move. Democrats have painted themselves into a corner. No sympathy should be given to them, however. Poisonous identity politics and failure to enact sound policy in the areas they run are the reason for their demise. It should be allowed to happen so the country can move forward in a *truly* progressive fashion.

When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats?
Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.
Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination.
The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.
In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans.
The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln – the man who freed the slaves.
Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order.
Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support.
During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.
But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes – laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote.
And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest.
As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:
“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.”

The Democratic Party in the United States of America is dead and has been for quite a while now. Maybe not so much in local elections in large cities, or even ...
The Democratic Party in the United States of America is dead and has been for quite a while now. Maybe not so much in local elections in large cities, or even some small cities with liberal leanings, but they are most certainly no longer relevant in a larger sense. No longer will they be able to take over the White House. Barack Obama was their last hope and he failed in an epic way. Nobody that the Democrats have on their side as of today can defeat either Donald Trump or Mike Pence in an election. So for the next 8 to 16 years, the White House will be red.
Trump is in office right now during a period of time where up to 2 more justices can (and will) be selected under him. Which means the current 5-4 split which is already in favor of conservatives on the bench will upgrade to a 7-2 split. Then there is the matter of the House and Senate, both of which are controlled by Republicans. How will the Democrats be able to take either one, when their attempts to gain any ground this far in 2017 have been epic failures - most notably that of one Jon Ossoff who essentially set $23 million dollars on fire?
The rhetoric the Democrats push while on the campaign trail is unbelievably toxic. Scaling back their violent speech and extremist points of view on social issues may help them gain some voters in the center/center-right but it will alienate many that they have gained on the far left. At best, trying to reform their party will be the equivalent to a lateral move. Democrats have painted themselves into a corner. No sympathy should be given to them, however. Poisonous identity politics and failure to enact sound policy in the areas they run are the reason for their demise. It should be allowed to happen so the country can move forward in a *truly* progressive fashion.

The entire Democratic convention has been a joke, with ridiculous speakers like Lena Dunham and Sarah Silverman. The speakers have been getting bood from start to finish with people chanting Bernie Sanders throughout the entire event. People are holding signs against the TPP and against Hillary Clinton. This entire show proves without a shadow of doubt that the entire political establishment works against the will of the people, and that it is indeed a rigged system. The primaries have been rigged, and voter fraud has been in plain sight. People are upset on both sides, Republicans and Democrats. The American people are sick of the lies and corruption.
