It was Duke Hendrik I of Brabant who granted city rights to Eindhoven in 1232, then a small town right on the confluence of the Dommel and Gender streams. Today, Eindhoven is the fifth-largest city in the Netherlands, located in the south of the country and well know as the city of innovation. Over 125 of 130 years ago, Philips brought light to Eindhoven. The company transformed the city into a vibrant industrial success story. The city is in a constant flow of new developments in the fields of creativity, innovation, technology, design, and knowledge.

The largest town in southern Netherlands (and the fifth largest in the country), Eindhoven is well worth exploring. Known by locals as "Lichtstad" - the City of Light - due to its connections with electronics giant Philips (a monument near the station is dedicated to the company founder's son), this modern town is one of the country's industrial powerhouses. Located on the River Dommel, its rapid growth began soon after the establishment of the Philips works in 1891 and was cemented with the founding of the car and truck manufacturer, DAF. A busy university town, the city is home to a diverse collection of tourist attractions, from art museums to historic churches and lovely parks. It's also notable for its connection to Vincent Van Gogh who lived and painted in the nearby village of Neunen.

I decided to visit Eindhoven Netherlands. When you search for things to do in Eindhoven not a whole lot shows up other than museums and a visit to a PSV match. I decided to visit the 5th biggest city in the Netherlands and see what it was really like.
I can say that I wasn't disappointed. The city was different than any other Dutch city I have previously visited in the Netherlands. It seemed like a mix of high buildings and traditional Dutch buildings. I also met the best skate boarder in the city.

Welcome to my My Barrio My Mundo. Welcome to my city, Eindhoven, the "Brainpoort" of the Netherlands. It was heavily bombarded during WWII that is why there are hardly remaining old world architecture.
In this short tour during the lockdown of 2020 and the shortest and darkest day of the year, we will take a bus ride to travel from my neighbourhood to the city centre where we explore the city on foot.
We will see the empty shopping streets, the avenues. But a treat, we will have the Kathrienkerk, the St Catherine Church, the most beautiful building in the city to our own.

Eindhoven
Eindhoven (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɛi̯ntɦoË?vÉ™(n)]) is a municipality and a city located in the province of North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands, originally at the confluence of the Dommel and Gender streams. The Gender was dammed short of the city centre in the 1950s but the Dommel still runs through the city. The city has a population of 223,220 in January 2015, making it the fifth-largest municipality of the Netherlands and the largest of North Brabant.
Neighbouring cities and towns include Son en Breugel, Nuenen, Geldrop-Mierlo, Heeze-Leende, Waalre, Veldhoven, Eersel, Oirschot and Best. The agglomeration has a population of 337,487. The metropolitan area consists of 419,045 inhabitants. The city region has a population of 753,426. Also, Eindhoven is located in the Brabantse Stedenrij, a combined metropolitan area with about 2 million inhabitants.
Name
The name Eindhoven derives from the contraction of the regional words eind (meaning last or end) and hove (or hoeve; a section of some 14 hectares of land). "Eind" is toponymically a common prefix and postfix in local place- and streetnames. A "hove" was a parcel of land that might be given in leasehold to private persons such as farmers by the local lord. Taken in conjunction with the fact that a string of such parcels existed around Woensel, the original location of Eindhoven may be understood to be "last hoves on the land of Woensel".

Welcome to my My Barrio My Mundo. Welcome to my city, Eindhoven, the "Brainpoort" of the Netherlands. It was heavily bombarded during WWII that is why there are hardly remaining old world architecture. In this short tour during the lockdown of 2020 and the shortest and darkest day of the year, we will take a bus ride to travel from my neighbourhood to the city centre where we explore the city on foot. We will see the empty shopping streets, the avenues. But a treat, we will have the Kathrienkerk, the St Catherine Church, the most beautiful building in the city to our own.

The largest town in southern Netherlands (and the fifth largest in the country), Eindhoven is well worth exploring. Known by locals as "Lichtstad" - the City of Light - due to its connections with electronics giant Philips (a monument near the station is dedicated to the company founder's son), this modern town is one of the country's industrial powerhouses. Located on the River Dommel, its rapid growth began soon after the establishment of the Philips works in 1891 and was cemented with the founding of the car and truck manufacturer, DAF. A busy university town, the city is home to a diverse collection of tourist attractions, from art museums to historic churches and lovely parks. It's also notable for its connection to Vincent Van Gogh who lived and painted in the nearby village of Neunen.

I decided to visit Eindhoven Netherlands. When you search for things to do in Eindhoven not a whole lot shows up other than museums and a visit to a PSV match. I decided to visit the 5th biggest city in the Netherlands and see what it was really like.
I can say that I wasn't disappointed. The city was different than any other Dutch city I have previously visited in the Netherlands. It seemed like a mix of high buildings and traditional Dutch buildings. I also met the best skate boarder in the city.

We will see the empty shopping streets, the avenues. But a treat, we will have the Kathrienkerk, the St Catherine Church, the most beautiful building in the city to our own.

It was Duke Hendrik I of Brabant who granted city rights to Eindhoven in 1232, then a small town right on the confluence of the Dommel and Gender streams. The largest town in southern Netherlands (and the fifth largest in the country), Eindhoven is well worth exploring. Known by locals as "Lichtstad" - the City of Light - due to its connections with electronics giant Philips (a monument near the station is dedicated to the company founder's son), this modern town is one of the country's industrial powerhouses. Located on the River Dommel, its rapid growth began soon after the establishment of the Philips works in 1891 and was cemented with the founding of the car and truck manufacturer, DAF. A busy university town, the city is home to a diverse collection of tourist attractions, from art museums to historic churches and lovely parks. It's also notable for its connection to Vincent Van Gogh who lived and painted in the nearby village of Neunen.

I decided to visit Eindhoven Netherlands. When you search for things to do in Eindhoven not a whole lot shows up other than museums and a visit to a PSV match. I decided to visit the 5th biggest city in the Netherlands and see what it was really like.
I can say that I wasn't disappointed. The city was different than any other Dutch city I have previously visited in the Netherlands. It seemed like a mix of high buildings and traditional Dutch buildings. I also met the best skate boarder in the city.

Welcome to my My Barrio My Mundo. Welcome to my city, Eindhoven, the "Brainpoort" of the Netherlands. It was heavily bombarded during WWII that is why there are hardly remaining old world architecture.
In this short tour during the lockdown of 2020 and the shortest and darkest day of the year, we will take a bus ride to travel from my neighbourhood to the city centre where we explore the city on foot.
We will see the empty shopping streets, the avenues. But a treat, we will have the Kathrienkerk, the St Catherine Church, the most beautiful building in the city to our own.
Eindhoven
Eindhoven (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈɛi̯ntɦoË?vÉ™(n)]) is a municipality and a city located in the province of North Brabant in the south of the Netherlands, originally at the confluence of the Dommel and Gender streams. The Gender was dammed short of the city centre in the 1950s but the Dommel still runs through the city. The city has a population of 223,220 in January 2015, making it the fifth-largest municipality of the Netherlands and the largest of North Brabant.
Neighbouring cities and towns include Son en Breugel, Nuenen, Geldrop-Mierlo, Heeze-Leende, Waalre, Veldhoven, Eersel, Oirschot and Best. The agglomeration has a population of 337,487. The metropolitan area consists of 419,045 inhabitants. The city region has a population of 753,426. Also, Eindhoven is located in the Brabantse Stedenrij, a combined metropolitan area with about 2 million inhabitants.
Name
The name Eindhoven derives from the contraction of the regional words eind (meaning last or end) and hove (or hoeve; a section of some 14 hectares of land). "Eind" is toponymically a common prefix and postfix in local place- and streetnames. A "hove" was a parcel of land that might be given in leasehold to private persons such as farmers by the local lord. Taken in conjunction with the fact that a string of such parcels existed around Woensel, the original location of Eindhoven may be understood to be "last hoves on the land of Woensel".
