I don't own these tracks! Yet, they are some of my favorite jams!

When people ask "where is he from"? He'll tell 'em
Frogtown... Which is an area of the capital city of
Minnesota.
Julius Romero, started his musical journey when he was 16. He went to his first warehouse party in
Northeast Minneapolis. It was the beginning of what JR knew he wanted to be part of.... '
The Scene'.
St. Paul had all the elements of the inner city lifestyle from dope dealers to dirty cops and across the river where it always rains in purple he was exposed to a little well known venue called
First Avenue Night Club which hosted
Sunday Night Dance Party (
SNDP). At the time going to the Ave felt like he had been baptized in the waters of lake
Minnetonka.
He first became interested in the electronic music scene in
1994. That same year he and his brother bought their first set of turntables.
The discovery of the turntables began with his younger brother
Ed Springer. Frustrated Ed wanted his own pair of decks so he could practice mixing records. They both were just exposed to the underground party scene. They fell in love with the wall of sound movement.
School had just finished and they had the whole summer to save up and purchase a pair of decks. There was a heated argument about who was going to be playing what genre... So, JR started playing
Trance (
Platipus Records) and Ed played
House (
Relief Records). The thing about it was
.. Ed didn't even dance to house and JR did!
So, eventually JR began to play house too... Cuz there aint no music like
Chicago House. Well.. there is
Detroit techno.
One of the best sets he talks about is with
Derrick May who was at
Foundations here in
Minneapolis. When it comes to
New York City ladies and gentlemen, it's the one and
Masters at Work and associates, and is Julius's favorite.
Understand, the list is long and very diverse when it comes to his influences and the list continues to grow. Since
Chicago sits close to Minneapolis it's vibe was felt here and beyond. He can't thank the city enough for saving his
LIFE.
His interest when it comes to genre of music: Julius Romero loves to play house and considers himself a House DJ. Over the years due to technology and the loss of record shops it has been overwhelming to shift
the thought of music. His sounds range from dance music of the 70's, anything from
Salsoul,
Sounds of
Philly and 80's jams too mostly the popular radio hits. When it comes to just listening to music..
Fela Kuti, Dr Dre (the Choric),
Snoop Dog (
Doggie Style),
Bebel Gilberto,
Roy Ayers,
Cold Play,
Omara Portuondo,
Green Velvet,
Tony Allen,
Barry White,
Prince,
Rick James,
Sade,
Chris Botti and
Daft Punk.
Today when it comes to projects, Julius Romero is cool with mixin' music from some of his all time favorite producers and is looking forward to following the up and coming ones as well. He has also dabbled with makin' beats. With today's technology everything happens so fast, his vision is to keep exploring his musical talents and broadening his horizons as a DJ and producer. At the age of 21, he created along with FamilyWERKS one of Minneapolis's most memorable events LOVE2000. It was a
Valentine's annual house music party. He has also produced various events titled HouseTherapy, which has been a long-time FamilyWERKS signature party since
1997. He has achieved and delivers legendary parties and rock sets from Minneapolis, Chicago and
New York. There is more to come... big or small Julius Romero is here to stay. --Keep the
Vibe Alive...
