MOUNT VERNON -- Officers were injured while attempting to arrest a man suspected of setting a building on fire in Mount Vernon on Saturday morning.

The officers identified the 33-year-old transient as a person of interest while responding to a reported arson in the 100 block of North 15th Street, Lt. Mike Moore with the Mount Vernon Police Department said.

The man fled northbound on Riverside Drive as officers tried to contact him in the 900 block of East Fir Street.

The officers used a Taser on the man, but it was ineffective, Moore says. The man then tried to hit the officers but was wrestled to the ground and arrested.

Both officers and the suspected arsonist were injured and taken to Skagit Valley Hospital and later released.

The man was booked into the Skagit County Jail.
