Kenya (/ˈkɛnjə/; locally [ˈkɛɲa]), officially the Republic of Kenya, is a country in Africa and a founding member of the East African Community (EAC). Its capital and largest city is Nairobi. Kenya's territory lies on the equator and overlies the East African Rift covering a diverse and expansive terrain that extends roughly from Lake Victoria to Lake Turkana (formerly called Lake Rudolf) and further south-east to the Indian Ocean. It is bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the west, South Sudan to the north-west, Ethiopia to the north and Somalia to the north-east. Kenya covers 581,309 km2 (224,445 sq mi), and had a population of approximately 45 million people in July 2014.
Kenya has a warm and humid tropical climate on its Indian Ocean coastline. The climate is cooler in the savannah grasslands around the capital city, Nairobi, and especially closer to Mount Kenya, which has snow permanently on its peaks. Further inland, in the Nyanza region, there is a hot and dry climate which becomes humid around Lake Victoria, the largest tropical fresh-water lake in the world. This gives way to temperate and forested hilly areas in the neighboring western region. The north-eastern regions along the border with Somalia and Ethiopia are arid and semi-arid areas with near-desert landscapes. Kenya is known for its safaris, diverse climate and geography, and expansive wildlife reserves and national parks such as the East and West Tsavo National Park, the Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru National Park, and Aberdares National Park. Kenya has several world heritage sites such as Lamu and numerous beaches, including in Diani, Bamburi and Kilifi, where international yachting competitions are held every year.

Plot: This film, The Jose Lucas Story, is said to be based on a fictionalized account of a particular string of criminal exploits, leading to the arrest, conviction, incarceration, and too sudden death of one, Jose Lucas, a local Brooklyn kid whose early life reads like a Dicken's novel, and ends like a classic Shakespearean tragedy. He's convicted and given a 23-year prison sentence for having been a perpetrator in a notorious day-time jewelry heist in toney, downtown Georgetown, Washington, DC.(2005) Lucas had managed to be caught on a security camera with his homeboy Lex (the one who actually used the gun, shot the shop's jeweler, and managed also, to be un-masked on camera) by design of the other two culprits, Robert and 'E," who when arrested later, in another robbery, make a deal with the DA to escape the heavy sentences given Jose and Lex (who got 24 years as the shooter) by giving them up. The film attempts to get at the story behind that conviction, which many believed resulted in a grossly unfair sentence. After having accepted that Jose has lost in court, they had hoped to fight the verdict; Jose's defense did file and lose several appeals. They had settled into the reality that most residents-of- color in Brooklyn find themselves: that of having a loved one incarcerated.

South Africa became part of the BRICS group back in twenty ten and its clear to see why. From two thousand and two through to two thousand and eight, the country experienced annual growth averaging a tad under five percent per year and at times during that period it had teased the eight percent level giving a glimpse of the possibilities ahead. With vast natural resources such as gold, diamonds and platinum, excellent infrastructure and easy access to finance for business it had all the right ingredients in place for this trend to continue. The global recession hit hard however and, after a sharp contraction in the economy of six percent, it never really found its feet again. An increasingly corrupt government and high crime rates haven’t helped win foreign investment back into the region...

Through the introduction of community currencies like Lindi Pesa, the business community in Nairobi's poor neighborhoods are redesigning money to make it flow around the local economy more effectively. On April 15th 2013 I left for Kenya. I would be there for 17 days and enjoy great food, great culture great music, and great people. As an artist, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by the nations top TV / radio show hosts. I preformed at Embassy Cinema, now home to Maximum Miracle Center Church, where I have life long friendships with the pastors and youth. Being appreciated and loved for what you do and who you are is important. Kenya is a place where I turn on TV and see my music videos played on prime time and hear my songs in rush hour traffic played on radio. This was not my first tour here and will not be my last! Health care in Kenya is expensive. And so is corruption that diverts millions of dollars meant for buying medicine and paying doctors. When Cynthia loses a patient during one of the worst doctor's strike in Kenya in early 2017, she vows to relentlessly champion for the universalization of health care, especially for the most vulnerable rural populations with whom she spends more than 90% of her doctor time. Cynthia is a young government doctor working in remote parts of Kenya to serve the poor, who often do not have access to medical services and personnel. She has keen interests in global and public health, and women rights, and is a fervent activist having led a successful Twitter story campaign to support doctors’ bid to take universal healthcare to all Kenyans via the implementation ...
The burden of kidney treatment in Kenya is set to lessen with the installation of more dialysis machines across the country. The increase in the facilities will enable patients to access the treatment easily and affordably with the centres expected to reach an all time high of over 200 from an initial one in 1978. But as NTV's Brenda Wanga reports on health assignment, the dialysis machines are only a stop gap measure and experts contend that more awareness needs to be raised about organ donation to facilitate kidney transplants. Kenyas healthcare is in a deep crisis. From fake drugs, professional negligence by medics to lack of facilities, the poor are the most affected as the cost of healthcare continues to skyrocket. To compound the problem further, about 40 per cent of the population—accounting for about 15 million people — purchase medication over the counter without any form of medical advice. And the tragedy is that many of the counterfeit drugs and generics often contain cement, chalk, sawdust, paint and an array of other toxic or inert substances that cause more harm rather than restore the health of the sick. Although most of the drugs are imported from Kenyas key source markets for generic drugs in India and China, Africa bears the brunt as 700,000 deaths are reported on the continent resulting from i...

Talks to end a crippling strike by doctors and nurses in East Africa's biggest economy are still deadlocked. Kenya had just under 9,700 doctors by the end of 2015. The latest dispute has been triggered by the non-implementation of a deal on wages, and working conditions agreed with the government in 2011. In early October, the Employment and Labour Relations Court ruled that Kenya's Health Ministry had deliberately not implemented the agreement. Health department officials had tried to claim the deal had been signed by a party that wasn't authorised to do so. At the time, however, that person was the ministry's top civil servant. Between 2013 and 2015, over 2000 doctors left the public sector and went into private practice. The loss of talent continues.CCTV's Ramah Nyang' spoke to Dr Jacqu...

For the first time members of Kenya’s counter-terrorism police admit to “eliminating” suspected Muslim radicals. Speaking exclusively to Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit, officers from four units of Kenya’s counter-terrorism apparatus admitted the police assassinate suspects on government orders. They claim that the order to assassinate is made by the National Security Council, a body chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenya received six military choppers from the united states government to bolster the war against terror. It was one of the largest displays of military might since Kenya became a republic. The armed forces staged a show of strength as the country ushered in a new constitutional order. This was the first glimpse the world has seen of the results of an ongoing military modernisation programme. In 2008 alone, Kenya spent a massive 27 billion shillings to buy combat aircraft, helicopters, grenade launchers and other light arms. More has been spent in other years in programmes supported by China, the United States and other nations.
At least 15 Al Shabaab militants have been killed and dozens injured after the Kenya Defense Forces(KDF) fighter jets bombed their bases in Yantooy, Somalia on Sunday. The attack comes barely one week after Security agencies released photographs of five terror suspects, the five were suspected to be in Al-Shabaab camps in Somalia but intelligence reports have revealed they are planning to sneak into Kenya to carry out attacks.

Kenya's neighbors in the horn of Africa have endorsed the military offensive against al Shabaab mounted by Kenyan and transitional federal government forces in Somalia. Meanwhile, at least 44 people have been reported killed after several air strikes on two al-shabaab training camps in the lower Jubba Region.

The Kenya Navy celebrates a 50 year journey – 1964 to 2014 – from small beginnings as a part of the British Royal Navy to being the biggest Navy along the Eastern Coast of Africa, Cape to Cairo. Kenya has 200 miles of territorial waters that are constantly threatened by pirates, drug and human traffickers, terrorists and now, even neighbouring countries coveting the undersea resources such as oil and gas that have been discovered in this area. It is the mission of the Kenya Navy to secure this sea territory.
The common perception of a soldier's life is that of an easy, fun-filled career of cheap afco-bought goods. But as the deployment of Kenyan Defence Force in Somali proves, being far away from home and for long periods in an environment where death from an enemy bullet is a constant threat is a harsh reality in a soldier's life. For combat forces, that means separation from loved ones and the agony of not knowing if you will return alive to see them again. Judy Kosgei spent time with KDF in Somalia and found out that behind the tough, battle-hardened faces are spouses, parents, children and siblings with nostalgia for home and family.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and his counterpart from Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday pledged unity with Kenya in the war against terror. The two leaders came to this agreement and condemned the recent attack on Kenyan soldiers in Somalia when they attended the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) memorial at Moi Barracks in Eldoret in Western Kenya.

The war against terrorism will be won when countries share intelligence and military experiences. President Uhuru Kenyatta says shared terrorism threats call for shared responses in order to combat the global catastrophe. The head of state made the remarks when he joined His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordan in presiding over the closure of the Swift Eagle Military training in Embakasi Nairobi. The leaders pledged to forge stronger military ties to combat emerging security threats.
The 51st Jamhuri day celebrations bore the hallmarks of a country driven to the edge by security issues. Right from the setup, the whole program was championed by the military as the country displayed its prowess and military might from the skies. The message: Kenya was fighting a proxy terror war and security was at stake. A visibly agitated president defended the anti-terror amendment bill in parliament saying it’s geared towards insulating the country from terror threats. The bill, just like the U.S.A patriot act, advocates for indefinite detention, interception of communication at will by the spy agency, prohibition of publishing terror victims pictures among others. From the Marsabit National Park in the north, to the Masai Mara and Amboseli National Parks in the south, the planes of Kenya are teeming with wildlife or all shapes and sizes offering, along with its neighbour Tanzania, the best place in the world to view game. Travel video about destination Kenya. Founded by Alexander The Great in 332 B.C., the city of Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta and it was here that Caesar and Mark Anthony fell under Cleopatra’s spell.Cairo is Africa’s largest city and the heart of the Arab world, extreme poverty living next to opulent wealth, and modern, Western boutiques next to ancient souks. The Cairo Museum is home to the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities, including the golden mask and tomb of Tutankamun. Towering above almost any other human achievement are the impressive three pyramids of Gisa. The Cheops Pyramid, the world’s largest single construction, took four hundred thousand workers twenty years to build. It weighs as much as all the cathedrals in Europe put together and spans an area of...

Travel video about destination Nairobi in Kenya. Nairobi is Kenya's busy, expensive yet dangerous capital city. It is also both fascinating and modern. Nairobi is the country's most important and beautiful city and with the finest temperate climate between Johannesburg and Cairo, is located at an altitude of almost 1,700 metres above sea level. The government district of City Square contains the Conference Centre and the Kanu Tower, the headquarters of government and the city's tallest building. Canons guard the main entrance to the National Museum that is situated on Museum Hill, a fascinating building that covers much of Kenya's culture and history. The museum provides an interesting insight into Pre-history as well as to various cultures and the country's flora and fauna. Directly i...

I was in East Africa and I was dying to go on a Safari. I almost died when I saw how much the tours cost. A fellow backpacker at my camp informed me of a 3D2N Maasai Mara Safari that cost US$300 that I jumped on immediately! In the end, I was very pleased with the whole experience. My tour group and I were housed in a comfortable eco-camp about 10 minutes outside of the park for 2 nights with all the meals included. We also had 1 full day game drive along with 1 sunrise drive. I saw so many animals from antelopes, zebras, giraffes, elephants, lions (so many lions..) to warthogs. I never saw the elusive rhino nor leopard to complete the "Big Five" but seeing 3 (lions, elephants, buffalo) out of the 5 was stellar! Everyone is in the same park and will see the same animals so the more you ...

A fly into Mombasa. I see the giant tusks, see a Hindu Temple, visit the old slave market, now a spice market and then take a trip on the ferry.
by AJAY JAIN Seasoned travellers like me also find it a challenge to plan a wildlife trip to Kenya in Africa. There are lots of variable to figure. These include: * Accommodation: Where to stay - hotels or camps? What is the right location, how much should one be spending and more. * Safari Vehicles: You can go in vans or 4x4 Landcruisers. What works for whom? * Guides: They come at different proficiency levels and you pay accordingly. Who is suitable for you? * Which company should you book with? Different companies have differing quality of vehicles, guides, walkie-talkies to inform each other about sightings etc. Picking the right one could have a big bearing on your experience. * Transportation: How do get from one park to another within Kenya? By road? Fly? I spoke to Shivang Me...

Kenyans have voted in two national elections since August, and there are now calls for a third. Opposition leader Raila Odinga has branded the presidential election re-run a sham, and wants a new poll within three months. The vote on Thursday was marred by violence and a low turnout. Many Odinga supporters refused to cast their ballots, banding behind the slogan 'no reforms, no election.' The country’s divided - and there are fears of another cycle of post-election violence. When that happened 10 years ago, 1,100 people died. So would a third election make any difference? Presenter: Richelle Carey Guests: Otiende Amolo, member of NASA coalition Agnes Gitau, specialist on East Africa Ngunjiri Wambugu, member of Jubilee Ruling Coalition - Subscribe to our channel: http://aje.io/AJ...
