Kenneth Earl "Kenny" Burrell (born July 31, 1931) is an American jazz guitarist known for his collaborations with Jimmy Smith, including the 1965 Billboard Top Twenty hit album Organ Grinder Swing. He has cited jazz guitarists Charlie Christian and Django Reinhardt as influences, along with blues musicians T-Bone Walker and Muddy Waters. Burrell also serves as a professor and Director of Jazz Studies at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music.
Burrell was born in Detroit, Michigan; both of his parents played instruments, and he began playing guitar at the age of 12. He went on to study composition and theory with Louis Cabara and classical guitar with Joe Fava. While a student at Wayne State University, he made his recording debut as a member of Dizzy Gillespie's sextet in 1951, followed by the "Rose of Tangier/Ground Round" single recorded under his own name at Fortune Records in Detroit. While at university, Burrell founded the New World Music Society collective with fellow Detroit musicians Pepper Adams, Donald Byrd, Elvin Jones, and Yusef Lateef.
Kenny is a surname, a given name, and a diminutive of several different given names.
In Ireland, the surname is an Anglicisation of the Irish Ó Cionnaith, sometimes spelled Ó Cionnaoith. It is also a name from Waterford Cork which derives from MacKenny.
One bearer of the name was Cainnech of Aghaboe, better known in English as Saint Canice - a sixth-century Irish priest and missionary, after whom the city and county of Kilkenny is also named. The Irish form Cill Chainnigh means "church of Canice".
It is thought that the Ó Cionnaith sept was part of the Uí Maine kingdom, based in Connaught. Within this area, the name is associated traditionally with counties Galway and Roscommon.
Kenny is ranked at number 76 in the list of the most common surnames in Ireland. Other spellings include O'Kenny, Kenney, Kennie, Kinnie and Kinny.
Kenny is most often used as a diminutive form of Kenneth and Ken but it is also used as a given name.

John William Coltrane, also known as "Trane" (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967), was an American jazz saxophonist and composer. Working in the bebop and hard bop idioms early in his career, Coltrane helped pioneer the use of modes in jazz and was later at the forefront of free jazz. He led at least fifty recording sessions during his career, and appeared as a sideman on many albums by other musicians, including trumpeter Miles Davis and pianist Thelonious Monk.
As his career progressed, Coltrane and his music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension. Coltrane influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant saxophonists in music history. He received many posthumous awards and recognitions, including canonization by the African Orthodox Church as Saint John William Coltrane and a special Pulitzer Prize in 2007. His second wife was pianist Alice Coltrane and their son Ravi Coltrane is also a saxophonist.
Kenny Burrell & John Coltrane is an album credited to jazz musicians Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane. Recorded on March 7, 1958, it was originally released on the New Jazz label as NJ 8276 in 1963, then reissued in 1967 on Prestige as PRLP 7532, with a different cover and retitled The Kenny Burrell Quintet With John Coltrane.
Lindsay Planer of Allmusic gave it 4 stars, stating: "While not one of Coltrane's most assured performances, he chases the groove right into the hands of Burrell. The guitarist spins sonic gold and seems to inspire similar contributions from Chambers' bowed bass and Coltrane alike."
"Why Was I Born?" is a 1929 song composed by Jerome Kern, with lyrics written by Oscar Hammerstein II.
It was written for the show Sweet Adeline (1930).

"A Night at the Vanguard" (also released as "Man at Work") is a live album by guitarist Kenny Burrell recorded in 1959 at the Village Vanguard and originally released on the Argo label. I'm a Kenny Burrell fan, and this famous recording seems to capture the essence of Burrell's bluesy style. The trio setting allows for a great sense of expansion . . . but Kenny is always controlled, maintaining a fantastic balance between laid-back improv and tension/release. Not to mention his phenomenal comping. "Well, You Needn't" is a great set closer and demonstrates everything that's great about this recording. For heaven's sake, just add this to your collection!...(By Scott on November 29,2010;Amazon) _______________________________________________________________________________________________ ...

Treat me sweet and gentle
When you hold me tight
Just squeeze me
But please don't tease me
I get sentimental
When you hold me tight
Come and squeeze me
But please don't tease me
Missing you since you went away
Sing the blues most everyday
Counting the nights and longing for you
I'm in the mood to let you know
I never knew I loved you so
Please tell me that you love me too
For when I get that feeling
I'm in ecstasy
Come on squeeze me
