Unless you and your partner are on the exact same page, choosing a baby name can be one of the biggest - and earliest - challenges parenthood throws your way.

There are numerous tried and tested methods of locating the perfect moniker: hit the naming books, start paying extra attention to end credits, voraciously consume top 10 and top 100 lists or start swiping.

Or you could always choose the name not taken.

Popular baby name website Nameberry has released a list of options recorded in their database that no one - yes, no one - used in 2016 in the United States.

And naturally there are some weird, wonderful and whimsical monikers (Whimsy is actually among them) from which to choose from.

Here are just some of the trends from the list:

GIRLS

Floral/nature: Bee, Bluebell, Daffodil, Freesia, Ianthe, Season (see more nature names here)

Place names: Louisiana, Samoa, Venetia (see more place name inspiration here). Interestingly, both North and West are also on the list, revealing that parents weren't inspired by Kim and Kanye's choice for their firstborn daughter.

Familiar words: Calico, Christmas, Dancer, Remember, Whimsy, Winsome

BOYS

Shakespeare: Auberon, Bard, Cassio, Puck (See more Shakespeare names here)

None of those tickling your fancy? Here's the list in its entirety.

For a bit of fun, you can also spin the wheel at the bottom of the page and leave it to chance!
