Pakistan Army (Urdu: پاک فوج Pak Fauj (IPA: pɑk fɒ~ɔd͡ʒ); Reporting name: PA) is the land-based service branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces. It came into existence after the independence of Pakistan in 1947. According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) it had an active force of approximately 550,000 active personnel and 500,000 reserve personnel as of 2015. The Constitution of Pakistan contains a provision for conscription for times of possible need, but it has never been imposed.
Since its establishment in 1947, the Army (along with its inter–services: the Navy and the Air Force) has been involved in four wars with neighbouring India and several border skirmishes with Afghanistan. Since 1947, it has also maintained a strong presence along with its inter-services in the Arab states during the past Arab-Israeli Wars, and aided the coalition in the first Gulf War. Recently, major joint-operations undertaken by the Army include Operation Zarb-e-Azb Operation Toar-e-Tander (Black Thunderstorm) and Operation Rah-e-Nijat (Path to Salvation).
Security Forces is an umbrella term frequently used to describe statutory organisations with military, paramilitary, or internal security mandates. In the legal context of several nations, the term has variously denoted police and military units working in concert, or the predominant role of non-conventional agencies (such as gendarmerie) in the external and internal provision of public security.
Examples of formally designated security forces include:

A tunnel running between India and Pakistan at the international border in the Samba sector of Jammu has been found by a Border Security Force (BSF) patrol. The tunnel, dug at a depth of 25 feet, was detected after an area caved in due to rains near a BSF outpost. It is still not clear whether the tunnel was operation or not, but the tunnel seems freshly constructed and had an air supply pipe as well.

Hindi/English/Nat India claims its security forces have killed 4 Pakistanis on the disputed Kashmir border. The deaths came as the two countries exchanged gunfire across the border for the fifth day running. Troops on the heavily guarded India-Pakistan border often exchange fire. But the shooting appears to have intensified in the last week. India's Border Security Force patrolling the area early Tuesday morning shot dead four men they said were Pakistanis attempting to infiltrate into India. B-S-F spokesman said this was the second incident of attempted infiltration by the Pakistanis in the past few days. At a meeting at an Indian border outpost Tuesday, officers of India's Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers sought to end the shooting. But officials sa...
in an astonishing security threat, more than 15,000 of a new variant of the handheld device have been made in Pakistan to guard high-value facilities such as airports and government installations, despite officials conceding they are effectively useless. "It serves a deterrence value only — it's good for police and security personnel to have something in their hands," said a senior interior ministry official, who asked to remain anonymous. a professor of chemistry at the University College London, dismissed the claims as "laughable". "There is no physical basis for the operation of those devices," he told AFP. "It's pure snake oil, sold to desperate people who use them because something, even if useless, is better than nothing." "There is no 'magnetic' signal that you might be able to ...

Natural Sound Four protesters have been shot and killed after Pakistani security forces opened fire during a one-day strike in Karachi. The strike, called by the main political party in Karachi - Mohajir Quami Movement (MQM) - transformed parts of Pakistan's economic hub into war zones on Saturday. Young men armed with automatic rifles wandered the streets, challenging patrolling police and paramilitary forces. The Mohajir Quami Movement (MQM) withdrew from the federal government of Pakistan on Friday in protest at violence that has engulfed Karachi for years. The M-Q-M said it would also withdraw from the Sindh provincial government if the Pakistani government didn't arrest those responsible for the deaths of ten party workers shot by unknown gunmen earlier in the week. ...

ISLAMABAD - Military officials are calling it a routine exercise, but the thunderous spectacle of Pakistani fighter jets touching down on a major highway Wednesday and Thursday, with commercial flights suspended and traffic blocked for hours, has fueled public speculation that something much more ominous is afoot. The display of military readiness has come amid an unusually tense showdown with India, Pakistan's nuclear-armed rival, following a militant attack Sunday that killed 18 Indian soldiers in the disputed border region of Kashmir. The air exercise led to the closure of commercial airspace over several regions of the country and triggered a sudden drop in the nation's stock market. Indian officials have accused Pakistan of sending the armed attackers across the de facto border into...
