Malawi (/məˈlɔːwi/, /məˈlɑːwi/ or /ˈmæləwi/; Chichewa: [maláβi] or [maláwi]), officially the Republic of Malawi, is a landlocked country in southeast Africa that was formerly known as Nyasaland. It is bordered by Zambia to the northwest, Tanzania to the northeast, and Mozambique on the east, south and west. The country is separated from Tanzania and Mozambique by Lake Malawi. Malawi is over 118,000 km2 (45,560 sq mi) with an estimated population of 16,777,547 (July 2013 est.). Its capital is Lilongwe, which is also Malawi's largest city; the second largest is Blantyre and the third is Mzuzu. The name Malawi comes from the Maravi, an old name of the Nyanja people that inhabit the area. The country is also nicknamed "The Warm Heart of Africa".
Malawi is among the smallest countries in Africa. Lake Malawi takes about a third of Malawi's area.

Vacation travel video about destination Malawi in Africa. Malawi is the unknown Africa in the south-east of the Continent. A wild country between sea and highlands, a land of contrasts with amazing green mountains and high plateaus but most of all, Lake Malawi. In the north west and on the border with Zambia is the thousand square kilometre Vwaza Marsh Wildlife Reserve, home to more than two hundred elephants who, in small groups, visit the Kazuni Safari Camp on their way to the lake. In the Lake Kazuni area there are many hippos and crocodiles which although rarely seen from the shore can certainly be heard at night. The location of the small town of Nkhata Bay is quite spectacular, a large, sheltered bay, accessible via a steep slope. Small boats transport the local people to various loc...

The team finished off Malawi's 2016 country tour with Likoma Island. We traveled on the MV Ilala from Monkey-port. It was one lovely and adventurous tour we have ever had. MV Ilala is a motor ship that has sailed on Lake Malawi since 1951. She is operated by Malawi Shipping Company (MSC) and based in Monkey Bay, Malawi (on the southern end of the lake). Every week she crosses the lake all the way north to Chilumba, Malawi, near Tanzania (about 300 miles (480 km) from Monkey Bay) and then returns to Monkey Bay. She carries both passengers and freight, and calls at major towns on both the Malawian and Mozambican coast, as well as at the two inhabited islands of the lake (Likoma and Chizumulu). Though old, she remains the most important means of long-distance transport for the people livin...

Vacation travel video about nature park Lake Malawai in Africa. Framed by Malawi, Tanzania and Mosambique, Lake Malawi in the heart of Africa is situated at the southern end of East Africa’s Rift Valley. It extends more than six hundred kilometres from north to south, is up to eighty kilometres wide and in some sections is over seven hundred metres deep.To explore the third largest lake in East Africa we begin north of Malawi's eastern coast at Thunduzi Beach in the Chilumba region. Close to the bleak town, the coastline looks quite paradisiacal. Out in the hot sun the local people wash their laundry in the gentle waves of a sandy beach and fishing nets are laid out to dry on the shore. The location of the small town of Nkhata Bay is quite spectacular, a large, sheltered bay, accessible vi...
Lilongwe is Malawi’s Capital City, named after the great Lilongwe River that flows into Lake Malawi. It is an exceptionally green city with trees and patches of grassland covering a great deal of the city. For centuries Lilongwe was a small fishing village on the banks of the River Lilongwe. It is at the centre of the country near the borders of Mozambique and Zambia and was used as an administrative centre by Colonial Britain. The city is divided into New and Old. The Old Town to the South is based around the centuries old fishing village while New Town or Capital City grew up after President Banda moved the capital here from Zomba. New Town is where the government ministries, offices, Lilongwe accommodation and embassies are,and the Old Town is full of cafes, restaurants, bus stations ...
Malawi is often an overlooked African country. Yes, it may be landlocked, but the 'Warm Heart Of Africa' has everything you could want, from lakes to mountains, safaris and even beaches...impressive for a landlocked country! In this video, I visit the Samtemwa Tea Estate, Zomba market, Liwonde National Park, Mangochi, CapeMcClear and the award-winning eco-tourist paradise that is Mumbo Island. Tracking the rare Black Rhino on foot at Liwonde National park in Malawi. Staying at Mvuu camp we got up at 4am and set off with our guide, gun bearer and professional tracker. After finding fresh footprints we came across a family of 3 Black Rhino's and were able to get up close for several minutes before something spooked them and they ran off. See www.malawianstyle.com for more adventures of this kind or email info@malawianstyle.com. Once I bought a curious bottle,
Once I bought a bottle for fun.
Tell me what you gonna do with the bottle
When the curiousity's done.
Well I brought it out to the Bo Bo's party
Then I got it in to the company,
Then I brought it up to the boys in the backroom,
They got the knack to tune in on me,
Then I brought it up to the boys in the backyard.
I find it hard to hold on me,
I find it hard to hold, I find it hard to hold,
I find it hard to hold on me, I find it hard to hold on me,
I find it hard to hold, hard to hold, hard to hold.
You know, I've been bad, but
I would be good instead.
Ah, if my man did half of the things that he said,
I wouldn't have to go to the Bo Bo's party
I wouldn't have to go to the company,
I wouldn't have to go to the boys in the backroom,
With their knack to tune in on me,
I wouldn't have to go to the boys in the backyard.
I find it hard to hold on me,
I find it hard to hold on me,
I find it hard to hold.
