Deputy mayor

Deputy mayor is an elective or appointive office of the second-ranking official in many local governments.

Duties and functions

A lot of elected vice mayors are members of the city council who are given the title and serve as acting mayor in the mayor's absence. Appointive deputy mayors serve at the pleasure of the mayor and may function as chief operating officers; in some large communities such as New York City, there are multiple deputy mayors who handle coordination of specific policy areas. There may be within the same municipal government a deputy mayor or mayors appointed by the mayor to policy areas and a popularly-elected vice mayor who serves as the mayor's successor in the event the office is vacated by death, resignation, disability, or impeachment.

In other cities the vice mayor presides over the city council, and may not vote except to break ties. Like the deputy mayor in other systems, the popularly-elected vice mayor becomes acting mayor in the mayor's absence. As previously noted, in some few cities, this office is elected separately and does not entail the elevation by the council of one of its members to be speaker. In some U.S. cities, the mayor and deputy or vice mayor run together as a ticket similar to how president and vice president run at the national level.

Ozamiz

Ozamiz (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Ozamiz, Filipino: Lungsod ng Ozamiz) is a third class city in the province of Misamis Occidental, Philippines. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 131,527 people. Although City Resolution 251-05 officially spelled Ozamiz with a "z" as its last letter rather than with an "s", it is alternatively spelled as Ozamis.

Geography

Ozamiz is close to Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga del Norte provinces, while across the bay is Lanao del Norte. It is 45-minute drive from Oroquieta City, 30 mins drive from Tangub City, 20 mins drive from Tudela, less than 2 hrs drive from Pagadian City, 3 hrs drive from Dipolog City, Dapitan city and 4 hrs drive to Cagayan de Oro City. Lanao del Norte is only a 20 mins ferry ride across Panguil Bay. Ozamiz city is 52 kilometres (32 mi) from Maria Cristina Falls, the main source of hydroelectric power in Mindanao.

History

The city of Ozamiz grew out of an old Spanish town called Misamis—a name believed to have been derived from the Subanen word "Kuyamis," a variety of coconut. Other unverified historical sources, however, suggest that the name Misamis came from "Misa" after the Catholic Mass. The origin and the growth of the old Spanish town, Misamis, was due to the presence of the Spanish garrison stationed at the stone fort named Nuestra Senora dela Concepcion del Triunfo, which was constructed some time in the 18th century in order to control the pirate activities originating in the nearby Lanao area. In 1850, the town of Misamis became the capital of the District of Misamis.

24 Oras

24 Oras (24 Hours) is the flagship national network news broadcast of GMA Network. It is the nightly national newscast which airs in the Philippines on GMA and worldwide via GMA Pinoy TV. It is aired every weeknights from 6:30 PM to 7:45 PM, and every Saturdays and Sundays from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM (PST). The newscast can be heard on radio through Super Radyo DZBB 594 in Mega Manila and several of its regional Super Radyo stations nationwide (Super Radyo 909 Palawan, Super Radyo 1323 Iloilo, Super Radyo 999 Cebu and Super Radyo 1125 Davao).

History

2004-2014

24 Oras premiered on March 15, 2004 at 6:15pm, replacing Frontpage: Ulat ni Mel Tiangco as the network's answer to longest-running newscast TV Patrol. Frontpage anchor Mel Tiangco was joined by Saksi's Mike Enriquez, rejoining them in one newscast since they co-anchored Saksi from 1996 to 1998. Special weekend editions are also being aired when it deemed necessary (See below). The show, meanwhile, transferred its timeslot from 6:15pm to 6:30pm, it was currently extended to 90 minutes.
