Toyota: New car sales on record pace

Market leaders on-track for best-ever month amid end of financial year deals.

The Japanese brand's imported mid-size sedan may be the most exciting one yet.

Toyota could be about to set an all-time sales record.

The Japanese giant has revealed it is on course to break its best-selling month of new vehicle sales as end of financial year deals and a strong economy combine to create a robust sales environment.

Toyota Australia's director of sales and marketing Tony Cramb believes the whole market should be doing well, given the data he is seeing from his dealers.

"June is flying for us," Cramb told Drive. "I can't speak for the market but I would expect it would 125,000 plus for June, which is a big month. We don't exactly know, but we conceivably are at almost all-time record pace, like all-time ever, for the month. So if that's us I've got to assume that's happening for others as well.

"Both on an order intake point-of-view and a delivery point-of-view."

Toyota's current most successful month came in June 2008 when the company sold 25,600 new vehicles. In May this year the company chalked up 19,876 highlighting the impact of the financial year.

Cramb admits that Toyota's biggest challenge is delivering on all the orders.

"If everything goes to plan and we're able to deliver the cars - and that's going to be the test, because I'm not sure we can get the throughput done - but it would seem the demand is in excess of that," he said.
