United States Forces Korea
United States Forces Korea (USFK) is a sub-unified command of United States Pacific Command (USPACOM). USFK is the joint headquarters through which U.S. combat forces would be sent to the South Korea/US (ROK/U.S.) Combined Forces Command’s (CFC) fighting components — the combined ground, air, naval, marine and special operations forces component commands. Major USFK elements include Eighth U.S. Army (EUSA), U.S. Air Forces Korea (Seventh Air Force), U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK), U.S. Marine Forces Korea (MARFORK) and Special Operations Command Korea (SOCKOR). It was established on 1 July 1957.
Its mission is to support the United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command by coordinating and planning among U.S. component commands, and exercise operational control of U.S. forces as directed by United States Pacific Command.
USFK has Title 10 authority, which means that USFK is responsible for organizing, training and equipping U.S. forces on the Korean Peninsula so that forces are agile, adaptable and ready.

US military creates space unit in South Korea amid North Korea tensions
The US has opened a Space Force sub-command at its base in South Korea. It is expected to optimize the use of its satellites and other space-based assets as North Korea has been on a record-smashing run of missile testing this year. The unit belongs to the US Space Force, which was launched in December 2019 under then-President Donald Trump as the first new US military service in more than 70 years. The US has opened a Space Force sub-command at its base in South Korea.
It is expected to optimize the use of its satellites and other space-based assets as North Korea has been on a record-smashing run of missile testing this year.
The unit belongs to the US Space Force, which was launched in December 2019 under then-President Donald Trump as the first new US military service in more than 70 years.
The US Space Forces Korea is a subordinate of a bigger US Space Force unit established within the Indo-Pacific command in Hawaii last month.

South Korea's defense minister Song Young-moo visited the U.S. Army Garrison base on Friday for the first time since he took office last month.
Song met with U.S. Forces Korea commander Vincent Brooks and emphasized that the two allies need to retaliate strongly against the North when necessary, while focusing on deterrence.
He pointed out that Pyongyang's recent ICBM launch is a threat not only to South Korea but to the world.
The minister said the allies' joint exercise Ulchi-Freedom Guardian, which starts later this month, is a good opportunity for a show of readiness.

Soseong-ri, South Korea, was a sleepy farming village before the arrival of the US military's Terminal High Altitude Aerial Defense (THAAD) missile system. While the South Korean government and the US military claim that THAAD will protect South Korea from North Korean attacks, activists and experts have long countered that THAAD is incapable of blocking the kinds of short-range missiles North Korea would use against South Korean targets in a hypothetical war. Instead, they charge THAAD's real purpose is to protect US military assets in nearby Okinawa and Guam. THAAD has also inflamed relations between South Korea and China, which has decried THAAD's radar system as a way for the US to spy on Chinese military activities. The Real News reports from Soseong-ri, South Korea, where village residents have fought since 2016 against the US military and their own government to stop THAAD.

United States Forces Korea
United States Forces Korea (USFK) is a sub-unified command of United States Pacific Command (USPACOM). USFK is the joint headquarters through which U.S. combat forces would be sent to the South Korea/US (ROK/U.S.) Combined Forces Command’s (CFC) fighting components — the combined ground, air, naval, marine and special operations forces component commands. Major USFK elements include Eighth U.S. Army (EUSA), U.S. Air Forces Korea (Seventh Air Force), U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK), U.S. Marine Forces Korea (MARFORK) and Special Operations Command Korea (SOCKOR). It was established on 1 July 1957.
Its mission is to support the United Nations Command and Combined Forces Command by coordinating and planning among U.S. component commands, and exercise operational control of U.S. forces as directed by United States Pacific Command.
USFK has Title 10 authority, which means that USFK is responsible for organizing, training and equipping U.S. forces on the Korean Peninsula so that forces are agile, adaptable and ready.
