Elijah and Elisha are two of the most well-known prophets of Israel. They both served in the northern kingdom of Israel. Elijah is first introduced in 1 Kings 17 as the prophet who predicted a three-year drought in the land. After being miraculously fed by ravens, he later stayed with a widow and her son, and that family experienced God’s supernatural provision of food.
After Elijah’s defeat of the prophets of Baal when he called down fire from heaven, the drought ended. Rain fell, and Elijah fled from the evil Queen Jezebel, who had vowed to kill him (1 Kings 19). Reaching Mount Horeb, Elijah heard the voice of God tell him to anoint two kings as well as Elisha as a prophet. He did this, and Elisha immediately joined him (1 Kings 19:19–21).
Elijah later condemned King Ahab for murder and the theft of a vineyard and predicted Ahab’s death and that of his wife, Jezebel (1 Kings 21:17–24).
In 2 Kings 1, Elijah called down fire from heaven to destroy two groups of 50 men sent from King Ahaziah. A third group of men was led by a captain who begged for mercy and was spared judgment. Elijah went to Ahaziah and proclaimed the king would die from his sickness, a prophecy that was soon fulfilled.
In 2 Kings 2, Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan River on dry land, and Elisha, knowing that Elijah would not be with him much longer, asked to be blessed with a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Elijah was taken directly into heaven by a chariot of fire. Elisha picked up Elijah’s mantle and used it to cross the Jordan again on dry land. He received the double portion he had asked for and performed many miracles in Israel. Some of Elisha’s miracles were the turning of bad water into clean water (2 Kings 2:19–22), causing a widow’s oil to fill many jars (2 Kings 4:1–7), and even raising a boy from the dead (2 Kings 4:32–37).
Before he was taken to heaven, Elijah left a letter for King Jehoram of Judah that spoke of judgment against him. It stated, in part, “The LORD will bring a great plague on your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions, and you yourself will have a severe sickness with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day by day” (2 Chronicles 21:14–15). The prophecy soon came true (verses 18–20).
The Prophet Elijah is one of the most interesting and colorful of all biblical characters, yet his life was so filled with turmoil that today we might say he was up one day and down the next. Because Elijah was at times bold and decisive and at other times fearful and tentative, we have much to learn from him. In the narratives in which Elijah is the central character, we find principles that demonstrate the victory in the life of a believer as well as defeat and recovery. There are ways in which Elijah demonstrated the power of God and an instance where he plumbed the depths of depression.
Just as for Elijah, when the believer focuses on the noise and the tumult of life in this world, we may get our eyes off of the LORD. However, if we listen for His still, small voice and walk in obedience to His Word, we find victory and reward. Each biblical character we study has a lesson for us to use in our walk as believers. Elijah was filled with human frailties yet was used mightily of God.
Elijah and Elisha were both greatly respected by those in the “school of prophets” (2 Kings 2 and 4:38–41) as well as by the kings of their nation. Their impact led to revival among some of the Israelites during a dark stage of Israel's history. During the wicked reigns of Ahab and Ahaziah, God had His men leading the charge for righteousness.
Elijah and Elisha’s combined legacy continued to influence Israel for some time. Even the New Testament speaks of the expected return of Elijah, a role fulfilled by John the Baptist, the forerunner or the one to announce the coming of the Messiah (Mark 1).
It is always difficult to be an outsider, but Elijah's plight as a sole, persecuted prophet of God took true faith to overcome. Alone in bringing people to the true God, he had to prove that the prophets of Baal were false, incurring the wrath of Queen Jezebel and her weak husband, Ahab the King. Despite the defeat of the prophets, Elijah s work could not be completed until he found the one who would take up his mantle and his work.

The concert features the BU Symphony Orchestra and Symphonic Chorus, conductor Ann Howard Jones, soprano Liz Baldwin, mezzo-soprano Penelope Bitzas, tenor Martin Bakari, baritone James Demler, and soprano Kira Winter singing the role of The Youth.
Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah, perhaps his most endearing and embracing work, is a vivid depiction of the prophet's dramatic life, expressed through thrilling musical story telling, brilliant arias, and grand and vibrant choruses. The featured soloists in this epic work include students and faculty from the BU School of Music, where Jones is a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities.

Stemming out of our first collaboration with Cartoon Network, we directed this spot featuring the young and talented Elijah performing his original rap. Really, Elijah made this super easy - once everybody saw him at auditions, we knew we had our star. Directing isn’t just about giving people orders; it’s as much about finding the right people and letting them do their thing.
Even though we were making this piece for a primarily younger audience, we shot, directed, and produced this spot with a sophisticated tone. Kids are smart. They know what’s hip. We worked closely with Cartoon Network to animate some of their characters (like Scooby-Doo and Shaggy) in our own original way. By bringing them to life within Elijah’s world, they served as an extension of his imagination and a device to interact with. We also paid special attention to the typography and animation to bring a fresh new level of style into the piece.
Elijah’s rap was accompanied by original beats from our partner-in-crime, Darrin Weiner.

Books of Kings
The two Books of Kings (Hebrew: ספר מלכים Sepher M'lakhim – the two books were originally one) present the biblical view of history of ancient Israel and Judah from the death of David to the release of his successor Jehoiachin from imprisonment in Babylon, a period of some 400 years (c. 960 – c. 560 BCE). It concludes a series of books running from Joshua through Judges and Samuel, which make up the section of the Hebrew Bible called the Former Prophets; this series is also often referred to as the Deuteronomistic history, a body of writing which scholars believe was written to provide a theological explanation for the destruction of the Jewish kingdom by Babylon in 586 BCE and a foundation for a return from exile.

David dies and Solomon comes to the throne. At the beginning of his reign he assumes God's promises to David and brings splendour to Israel and peace and prosperity to his people. The centrepiece of Solomon's reign is the building of the First Temple: the claim that this took place 480 years after the Exodus from Egypt marks it as a key event in Israel's history. At the end, however, he follows other gods and oppresses Israel.

Elijah Blake
Elijah Blake is an American singer, songwriter and contemporary R&B musician. He has written songs for Rick Ross, Rihanna, and co-wrote Usher's number-one R&B hit, "Climax". He has also gone by the aliases, Sean Fenton and Redd Stylez.
When Blake was 16, he signed with Atlantic Records and worked with Trey Songz on his Ready album in 2009.
In December 2012, Blake released his debut mixtape, Bijoux 22, which included the song "X.O.X", co-written and featuring Common. In 2014, he released the EP, Drift. In March 2015, Blake followed his 'Drift' EP release with the new single "I Just Wanna" that would be featured on his upcoming album "Shadows & Diamonds". Blake was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Florida by a Haitian father and Dominican mother.

Elijah /ɨˈlaɪdʒə/; also Elias /ɨˈlaɪ.əs/; Hebrew: אֱלִיָּהוּ, Eliyahu, meaning "Yahweh is my God"; Arabic:إلياس, Ilyās), was a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab (9th century BC), according to the Books of Kings. According to the Books of Kings, Elijah defended the worship of Yahweh over that of the Phoenician god Baal, he raised the dead, brought fire down from the sky, and was taken up in a whirlwind (either accompanied by a chariot and horses of flame or riding in it). In the Book of Malachi, Elijah's return is prophesied "before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord," making him a harbinger of the Messiah and the eschaton in various faiths that revere the Hebrew Bible. Derivative references to Elijah appear in the Talmud, Mishnah, the New Testament, and the Qur'an. In Judaism, Elijah's name is invoked at the weekly Havdalah ritual that marks the end of Shabbat, and Elijah is invoked in other Jewish customs, among them the Passover seder and the Brit milah (ritual circumcision). He appears in numerous stories and references in the Haggadah and rabbinic literature, including the Babylonian Talmud. In Christianity, the New Testament describes how both Jesus and John the Baptist are compared with Elijah, and on some occasions, thought by some to be manifestations of Elijah, and Elijah appears with Moses during the Transfiguration of Jesus. In Islam, the Qur'an describes Elijah as a great and righteous prophet of God, and one who powerfully preached against the worship of Ba'al. Elijah is also a figure in various folkloric traditions. Stemming out of our first collaboration with Cartoon Network, we directed this spot featuring the young and talented Elijah performing his original rap. Really, Elijah made this super easy - once everybody saw him at auditions, we knew we had our star. Directing isn’t just about giving people orders; it’s as much about finding the right people and letting them do their thing. Even though we were making this piece for a primarily younger audience, we shot, directed, and produced this spot with a sophisticated tone. Kids are smart. They know what’s hip. We worked closely with Cartoon Network to animate some of their characters (like Scooby-Doo and Shaggy) in our own original way. By bringing them to life within Elijah’s world, they served as an extension of his imagination and a device to interact with. We also paid special attention to the typography and animation to bring a fresh new level of style into the piece. Elijah’s rap was accompanied by original beats from our partner-in-crime, Darrin Weiner. Stemming out of our first collaboration with Cartoon Network, we directed this spot featuring the young and talented Elijah performing his original rap. Really, Elijah made this super easy - once everybody saw him at auditions, we knew we had our star. Directing isn’t just about giving people orders; it’s as much about finding the right people and letting them do their thing. Even though we were making this piece for a primarily younger audience, we shot, directed, and produced this spot with a sophisticated tone. Kids are smart. They know what’s hip. We worked closely with Cartoon Network to animate some of their characters (like Scooby-Doo and Shaggy) in our own original way. Elijah is first introduced in 1 Kings 17 as the prophet who predicted a three-year drought in the land. After being miraculously fed by ravens, he later stayed with a widow and her son, and that family experienced God’s supernatural provision of food.
After Elijah’s defeat of the prophets of Baal when he called down fire from heaven, the drought ended. Rain fell, and Elijah fled from the evil Queen Jezebel, who had vowed to kill him (1 Kings 19). Reaching Mount Horeb, Elijah heard the voice of God tell him to anoint two kings as well as Elisha as a prophet. He did this, and Elisha immediately joined him (1 Kings 19:19–21).
Elijah later condemned King Ahab for murder and the theft of a vineyard and predicted Ahab’s death and that of his wife, Jezebel (1 Kings 21:17–24).
In 2 Kings 1, Elijah called down fire from heaven to destroy two groups of 50 men sent from King Ahaziah. A third group of men was led by a captain who begged for mercy and was spared judgment. Elijah went to Ahaziah and proclaimed the king would die from his sickness, a prophecy that was soon fulfilled.
In 2 Kings 2, Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan River on dry land, and Elisha, knowing that Elijah would not be with him much longer, asked to be blessed with a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Elijah was taken directly into heaven by a chariot of fire. Elisha picked up Elijah’s mantle and used it to cross the Jordan again on dry land. He received the double portion he had asked for and performed many miracles in Israel. Some of Elisha’s miracles were the turning of bad water into clean water (2 Kings 2:19–22), causing a widow’s oil to fill many jars (2 Kings 4:1–7), and even raising a boy from the dead (2 Kings 4:32–37).
Before he was taken to heaven, Elijah left a letter for King Jehoram of Judah that spoke of judgment against him. It stated, in part, “The LORD will bring a great plague on your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions, and you yourself will have a severe sickness with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day by day” (2 Chronicles 21:14–15). The prophecy soon came true (verses 18–20).
The Prophet Elijah is one of the most interesting and colorful of all biblical characters, yet his life was so filled with turmoil that today we might say he was up one day and down the next. Because Elijah was at times bold and decisive and at other times fearful and tentative, we have much to learn from him. In the narratives in which Elijah is the central character, we find principles that demonstrate the victory in the life of a believer as well as defeat and recovery. There are ways in which Elijah demonstrated the power of God and an instance where he plumbed the depths of depression.
Just as for Elijah, when the believer focuses on the noise and the tumult of life in this world, we may get our eyes off of the LORD. However, if we listen for His still, small voice and walk in obedience to His Word, we find victory and reward. Each biblical character we study has a lesson for us to use in our walk as believers. Elijah was filled with human frailties yet was used mightily of God.
Elijah and Elisha were both greatly respected by those in the “school of prophets” (2 Kings 2 and 4:38–41) as well as by the kings of their nation. Their impact led to revival among some of the Israelites during a dark stage of Israel's history. During the wicked reigns of Ahab and Ahaziah, God had His men leading the charge for righteousness.
Elijah and Elisha’s combined legacy continued to influence Israel for some time. Even the New Testament speaks of the expected return of Elijah, a role fulfilled by John the Baptist, the forerunner or the one to announce the coming of the Messiah (Mark 1).

In the Book of Malachi, Elijah's return is prophesied "before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord," making him a harbinger of the Messiah and the eschaton in various faiths that revere the Hebrew Bible. إلياس أو إيليا هو من أنبياء اليهودية الذي ورد ذكره في التناخ في سفر الملوك الثاني حيث ظهر في عهد الملك آخاب، وذكر في العهد الجديد عند تجليه مع المسيح ابن مريم ويعتقد أنه سيأتي قبل المجيء الثاني للمسيح.
يسمى في النص العبري للعهد القديم "إيلياهو" ومعناه الرب هو إلهي، كما يصفه الكتاب المقدس بالتشبي وذلك نسبة إلى تشبة في بلاد جلعاد. اسمه في اليونانية "إلياس" ويعتقد أنه هو نفسه إلياس المذكور في القرآن (كتاب الإسلام) بهذا الشكل "وإن إلياس لمن المرسلين" (الصافات123 والأنعام 185).
Elijah /ɨˈlaɪdʒə/; also Elias /ɨˈlaɪ.əs/; Hebrew: אֱלִיָּהוּ, Eliyahu, meaning "Yahweh is my God"; Arabic:إلياس, Ilyās), was a prophet in the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab (9th century BC), according to the Books of Kings.
According to the Books of Kings, Elijah defended the worship of Yahweh over that of the Phoenician god Baal, he raised the dead, brought fire down from the sky, and was taken up in a whirlwind (either accompanied by a chariot and horses of flame or riding in it). In the Book of Malachi, Elijah's return is prophesied "before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord," making him a harbinger of the Messiah and the eschaton in various faiths that revere the Hebrew Bible. Derivative references to Elijah appear in the Talmud, Mishnah, the New Testament, and the Qur'an.
In Judaism, Elijah's name is invoked at the weekly Havdalah ritual that marks the end of Shabbat, and Elijah is invoked in other Jewish customs, among them the Passover seder and the Brit milah (ritual circumcision). He appears in numerous stories and references in the Haggadah and rabbinic literature, including the Babylonian Talmud.
In Christianity, the New Testament describes how both Jesus and John the Baptist are compared with Elijah, and on some occasions, thought by some to be manifestations of Elijah, and Elijah appears with Moses during the Transfiguration of Jesus.
In Islam, the Qur'an describes Elijah as a great and righteous prophet of God, and one who powerfully preached against the worship of Ba'al.
Elijah is also a figure in various folkloric traditions. In Macedonia, Serbia, Bulgaria, and Romania, he is known as "Elijah the Thunderer" and in folklore is held responsible for summer storms, hail, rain, thunder, and dew

Stemming out of our first collaboration with Cartoon Network, we directed this spot featuring the young and talented Elijah performing his original rap. Really, Elijah made this super easy - once everybody saw him at auditions, we knew we had our star. Directing isn’t just about giving people orders; it’s as much about finding the right people and letting them do their thing.
Even though we were making this piece for a primarily younger audience, we shot, directed, and produced this spot with a sophisticated tone. Kids are smart. They know what’s hip. We worked closely with Cartoon Network to animate some of their characters (like Scooby-Doo and Shaggy) in our own original way. By bringing them to life within Elijah’s world, they served as an extension of his imagination and a device to interact with. We also paid special attention to the typography and animation to bring a fresh new level of style into the piece.
Elijah’s rap was accompanied by original beats from our partner-in-crime, Darrin Weiner.

Stemming out of our first collaboration with Cartoon Network, we directed this spot featuring the young and talented Elijah performing his original rap. Really, Elijah made this super easy - once everybody saw him at auditions, we knew we had our star. Directing isn’t just about giving people orders; it’s as much about finding the right people and letting them do their thing. Even though we were making this piece for a primarily younger audience, we shot, directed, and produced this spot with a sophisticated tone. Kids are smart. They know what’s hip. We worked closely with Cartoon Network to animate some of their characters (like Scooby-Doo and Shaggy) in our own original way. Elijah and Elisha are two of the most well-known prophets of Israel. They both served in the northern kingdom of Israel. Elijah is first introduced in 1 Kings 17 as the prophet who predicted a three-year drought in the land. After being miraculously fed by ravens, he later stayed with a widow and her son, and that family experienced God’s supernatural provision of food.
After Elijah’s defeat of the prophets of Baal when he called down fire from heaven, the drought ended. Rain fell, and Elijah fled from the evil Queen Jezebel, who had vowed to kill him (1 Kings 19). Reaching Mount Horeb, Elijah heard the voice of God tell him to anoint two kings as well as Elisha as a prophet. He did this, and Elisha immediately joined him (1 Kings 19:19–21).
Elijah later condemned King Ahab for murder and the theft of a vineyard and predicted Ahab’s death and that of his wife, Jezebel (1 Kings 21:17–24).
In 2 Kings 1, Elijah called down fire from heaven to destroy two groups of 50 men sent from King Ahaziah. A third group of men was led by a captain who begged for mercy and was spared judgment. Elijah went to Ahaziah and proclaimed the king would die from his sickness, a prophecy that was soon fulfilled.
In 2 Kings 2, Elijah and Elisha crossed the Jordan River on dry land, and Elisha, knowing that Elijah would not be with him much longer, asked to be blessed with a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Elijah was taken directly into heaven by a chariot of fire. Elisha picked up Elijah’s mantle and used it to cross the Jordan again on dry land. He received the double portion he had asked for and performed many miracles in Israel. Some of Elisha’s miracles were the turning of bad water into clean water (2 Kings 2:19–22), causing a widow’s oil to fill many jars (2 Kings 4:1–7), and even raising a boy from the dead (2 Kings 4:32–37).
Before he was taken to heaven, Elijah left a letter for King Jehoram of Judah that spoke of judgment against him. It stated, in part, “The LORD will bring a great plague on your people, your children, your wives, and all your possessions, and you yourself will have a severe sickness with a disease of your bowels, until your bowels come out because of the disease, day by day” (2 Chronicles 21:14–15). The prophecy soon came true (verses 18–20).
The Prophet Elijah is one of the most interesting and colorful of all biblical characters, yet his life was so filled with turmoil that today we might say he was up one day and down the next. Because Elijah was at times bold and decisive and at other times fearful and tentative, we have much to learn from him. In the narratives in which Elijah is the central character, we find principles that demonstrate the victory in the life of a believer as well as defeat and recovery. There are ways in which Elijah demonstrated the power of God and an instance where he plumbed the depths of depression.
Just as for Elijah, when the believer focuses on the noise and the tumult of life in this world, we may get our eyes off of the LORD. However, if we listen for His still, small voice and walk in obedience to His Word, we find victory and reward. Each biblical character we study has a lesson for us to use in our walk as believers. Elijah was filled with human frailties yet was used mightily of God.
Elijah and Elisha were both greatly respected by those in the “school of prophets” (2 Kings 2 and 4:38–41) as well as by the kings of their nation. Their impact led to revival among some of the Israelites during a dark stage of Israel's history. During the wicked reigns of Ahab and Ahaziah, God had His men leading the charge for righteousness.
Elijah and Elisha’s combined legacy continued to influence Israel for some time. Even the New Testament speaks of the expected return of Elijah, a role fulfilled by John the Baptist, the forerunner or the one to announce the coming of the Messiah (Mark 1).

The featured soloists in this epic work include students and faculty from the BU School of Music, where Jones is a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities.

Stemming out of our first collaboration with Cartoon Network, we directed this spot featuring the young and talented Elijah performing his original rap. Really, Elijah made this super easy - once everybody saw him at auditions, we knew we had our star. Directing isn’t just about giving people orders; it’s as much about finding the right people and letting them do their thing.
Even though we were making this piece for a primarily younger audience, we shot, directed, and produced this spot with a sophisticated tone. Kids are smart. They know what’s hip. We worked closely with Cartoon Network to animate some of their characters (like Scooby-Doo and Shaggy) in our own original way. By bringing them to life within Elijah’s world, they served as an extension of his imagination and a device to interact with. We also paid special attention to the typography and animation to bring a fresh new level of style into the piece.
Elijah’s rap was accompanied by original beats from our partner-in-crime, Darrin Weiner.
