Barricade, from the French barrique (barrel), is any object or structure that creates a barrier or obstacle to control, block passage or force the flow of traffic in the desired direction. Adopted as a military term, a barricade denotes any improvised field fortification, such as on city streets during urban warfare.
Barricades also include temporary traffic barricades designed with the goal of dissuading passage into a protected or hazardous area or large slabs of cement whose goal is to actively prevent forcible passage by a vehicle. Stripes on barricades and panel devices slope downward in the direction traffic must travel.
There are also pedestrian barricades - sometimes called bike rack barricades for their resemblance to a now obsolete form of bicycle stand, or police barriers. They originated in France approximately 50 years ago and are now produced around the world. They were first produced in the U.S. 40 years ago by Friedrichs Mfg for New Orleans's Mardi Gras parades.
Spandau Ballet /ˈspændaʊ ˈbæl.eɪ/ are an English new wave band formed in London in the late 1970s. The band were inspired by, and an integral part of, the New Romantic movement. They became one of the more successful groups to emerge during the New Romantic era. The band's classic line-up features brothers Gary and Martin Kemp on guitars, vocalist Tony Hadley, saxophonist Steve Norman and drummer John Keeble.
The group's debut single "To Cut a Long Story Short", which reached No. 5 in the UK in 1980, was the first of ten UK top 10 hits, including a No. 1 single "True", a No. 2 single "Gold", and two No. 3 singles: "Chant No. 1" and "Only When You Leave". The band have had eight UK top 10 albums, including three "greatest hits" compilations and an album of re-recorded material. At the height of their popularity in 1984, they received the Brit Award for technical excellence. The band split in 1990 and the members pursued solo careers, with both Kemp brothers winning acting roles. Since their reformation in 2009, the band have been recognised at the Q Awards and Gary Kemp's songwriting has been honoured by the Ivor Novello Awards.
The Barricades (Latvian: Barikādes) were a series of confrontations between Latvia and forces loyal to the Soviet Union in January 1991 which took place mainly in Riga. The events are named for the popular effort of building and protecting barricades from 13 January until about 27 January. Latvia, which had declared restoration of independence from the Soviet Union a year earlier, anticipated that Soviet Union might attempt to regain control over the country by force. After attacks by the Soviet OMON on Riga in early January, the government called on people to build barricades for protection of possible targets (mainly in the capital city of Riga and nearby Ulbroka, as well as Kuldīga and Liepāja). Six people were killed in further attacks, several were wounded in shootings or beaten by OMON. Most victims were shot during the Soviet attack on the Latvian Ministry of the Interior on January 20. One other person died in a building accident reinforcing the barricades. Casualties among Soviet loyalists are considered likely, but the exact number remains unknown. A total of 15,611 people have registered as having been participants of the Barricades.
Through the Barricades is a studio album by Spandau Ballet. It was released in November 1986 by Epic Records. The album reached number seven and remained on the UK album chart for 19 weeks. It produced three UK hit singles: "Fight For Ourselves" (#15), "How Many Lies" (#34) and the band's final top ten hit, "Through the Barricades" (#6).
The song lyrics were inspired by love prevailing over the Troubles in Northern Ireland and the death of a member of the crew in the Troubles.
In a mainly critical review for AllMusic, Dan LeRoy claimed: "Rocking up Spandau Ballet's smooth white-boy soul, Through the Barricades manages to avoid utter disaster via the tuneful creations of songwriter/guitarist Gary Kemp." LeRoy argued "the production and mix prove the undoing of this effort. Most of the tunes demand guitar and drum bombast; instead, the riff-rocking Cross the Line and Fight for Ourselves, in particular, are undercut by the polite-sounding rhythm section." However, he praised the title-track, which he said "became a deserved hit."

When love is a crippled dream When love is a crippled dream That's where you'll find me Saying I'm not afraid And when love is a barricade When love is a barricade That's where I'll find you Saying we're already made I want to be near you all day I want to be near you all day I want to be near you all day Don't go away When love is a howling face Trapped in a hollow place I won't surrender or give you up So don't put up these barricades We don't need barricades We have each other And that won't fade I want to be near you all day I want to be near you all day I want to be near you all day Don't go away To the dark, to the smoke To those downstairs No fares I want to be near you all day I want to be near you all day - Support Fyfe: http://www.fyfe...

Subtitled in English. Barikad is now a classic. It is Richard Senecal first movie (2002) and it stars Fabienne Colas, Handy Tibert, Gessica Geneus, Haendel Dorfeuille. What happens when a maid from the Haitian poor countryside meets a boy from a wealthy Port-au-Prince middle-class family? Unexpected and disturbing love in a highly conventional society. We should have left at once
We should have never stayed
Now they have drawn the line
Now there is a barricade
Now there's a barricade
A barricade
Who makes promises?
Who makes promises through a thick lead door?
Through an intercom on the 23rd floor?
Who makes promises and then promises more?
Who makes promises for el salvador?
Bobby's getting called. billy's getting called
Juan's getting called, john's getting called . . .
They get a letter in the mail, they get a telephone call
It says, "come on, come on . . ."
It says, "come on . . ."
All the american boys
Asleep beneath american shade
Awake on foreign soil
They awake inside the barricades
Inside the barricades
The sun curves over the jungle
And trees grow from the dead nun's lungs
But when the ship is in the harbor
Then the cyanide pill's on their tongue
Inside the barricade, inside the barricade
Girls, no more going out dancing
And boys, there's no more getting laid
You're gonna parachute to the holy land
And you will drop into the barricades
Inside the barricades, inside the barricades
Who makes promises for the neutron bomb?
It will sign your lungs to death
And leave the corporate walls unharmed . . .
Who makes promises with such insidious charm?
But it would have made things cleaner
In old vietnam . . .
That's when kevin got called up
Ritchie got called . . .
And kevin never came back
Ritchie never came home
Their folks got a letter in the mail
They got a letter in the mail . . .
I ain't gonna die for standard oil
I.b.m. . . . I wouldn't die for them!
G.e.? not me!
"come on," they say, "come on"
They say "come on,"
And you say, "ahh" . . .
