Woman struck and killed by train in St Kilda East

A woman has died after she was hit by a train in St Kilda East, in Melbourne's south-east, on Friday night. 

Police believe the woman was standing on railway tracks near Raglan Street just before 10.30pm when she was struck by a city-bound train. 

The woman, who died at the scene, has not yet been identified. 

Police are treating her death as an accident.  

They will prepare a report for the coroner. 

The Sandringham line was suspended between South Yarra and Elsternwick following the incident.

Trains resumed early on Saturday morning.
