After yesterday’s surprising news that Disney and Lucasfilm had parted ways with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, The Hollywood Reporter have broken word that Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) has taken over. An official announcement is expected by Disney soon.

Howard was revealed to be the front-runner yesterday.

The split between Lord, Miller and Lucasfilm came from disagreements over the film’s tone, and with the film’s writer Lawrence Kasdan. It was reported that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy wasn’t happy with Lord and Miller’s early cut of the footage they’d shot, and Kasdan agreed, one one source saying it “wasn’t like a Star Wars movie”.

Howard will be meeting with the film’s stars -Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke and Thandie Newton – today, which THR are describing as a “rattled set”. »
