English at Lincoln

English students at Lincoln question identity and representation in literature in a quest to understand the pivotal role it plays in society.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study explore a lively and varied collection of texts, from Shakespeare to postmodernism to contemporary literature. Students engage with the traditional canon of English literature – the Victorian novel and Romantic poetry – as well as more marginalised literary genres, such as graphic novels and African literature.

English academics are currently engaged in research that spans six centuries, three continents and countless genres. There are particular strengths in 21st Century literature, 19th Century studies, drama and utopia. All our students are encouraged to undertake their own research, working alongside academics on projects that are often published in academic journals and presented at conferences.

Studying English at the University of Lincoln is the best decision I have ever made. The texts, the ways of reading and the new ideas I have discovered are amazing.
