Calgary police have charged 28-year-old Kyle MacKenzie with six counts of mischief related to the racist graffiti sprayed on the Tuscany LRT station and parked vehicles earlier this month, police said in a release Friday.

MacKenzie is the second suspect charged in the case that drew a strong reaction from the community.

Miguel Lavergne, 30, was also charged Thursday with several counts of public mischief.

Police say it's up to the Crown to determine if hate-crime charges should apply.

The two suspects, both of no fixed address, were captured on video surveillance at the northwest LRT station, which was circulated by police.

The damaged is pegged at about $20,000.

MacKenzie's next court appearance is set for Dec. 18 and Lavergne is scheduled to appear Jan. 25.
