The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization to promote international co-operation. A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on 24 October 1945 after World War II in order to prevent another such conflict. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; there are now 193. The headquarters of the United Nations is in Manhattan, New York City, and experiences extraterritoriality. Further main offices are situated in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.
During the Second World War, US President Franklin D. Roosevelt initiated talks on a successor agency to the League of Nations, and the United Nations Charter was drafted at a conference in April–June 1945; this charter took effect 24 October 1945, and the UN began operation. The UN's mission to preserve world peace was complicated in its early decades by the Cold War between the US and Soviet Union and their respective allies. The organization participated in major actions in Korea and the Congo, as well as approving the creation of the state of Israel in 1947. The organization's membership grew significantly following widespread decolonization in the 1960s, and by the 1970s its budget for economic and social development programmes far outstripped its spending on peacekeeping. After the end of the Cold War, the UN took on major military and peacekeeping missions across the world with varying degrees of success.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO /ˈneɪtoʊ/; French: Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord; OTAN), also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's headquarters are located in Haren, Brussels, Belgium, where the Supreme Allied Commander also resides. Belgium is one of the 28 member states across North America and Europe, the newest of which, Albania and Croatia, joined in April 2009. An additional 22 countries participate in NATO's Partnership for Peace program, with 15 other countries involved in institutionalized dialogue programmes. The combined military spending of all NATO members constitutes over 70 percent of the global total. Members' defense spending is supposed to amount to 2 percent of GDP.

While NATO continues to adapt to changes in the security environment, the fundamentals of how it works haven’t changed. Consensus and consultation are part of NATO’s DNA. All member countries are represented in the North Atlantic Council, where decisions are taken by consensus – meaning unanimously – expressing the collective will of all the nations. There is no NATO army. National forces are under national command. When called upon, Allied nations volunteer their troops, equipment or other capabilities to NATO-led operations and exercises. Each member state pays for its own armed forces, and covers the costs of deploying its forces. But together, the Allies get a lot more security for a lot less cost than they would if they had to do it alone. Each member contributes a small percentage of...

Paul had blocked an earlier attempt to act on Montenegro's ratification despite strong support for the move from Democrats and Republicans. Critics of the World Bank and the IMF are concerned about the ‘conditionalities’ imposed on borrower countries. The World Bank and the IMF often attach loan conditionals based on what is termed the ‘Washington Consensus’, focusing on liberalization—of trade, investment and the financial sector—, deregulation and privatization of nationalized industries. IMF conditionalities may additionally result in the loss of a state’s authority to govern its own economy as national economic policies are predetermined under IMF packages. Issues of representation are raised as a consequence of the shift in the regulation of national economies from state governments to a Washington-based financial institution in which most developing countries hold little voting power. In this episode of Head to Head, Mehdi Hasan challenges Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former Danish prime minister and former NATO chief, on the West's military alliance's role in Eastern Europe and the so-called War on Terror. We examine his record since assuming office in 2001, his role in the European support for the Iraq War and ask whether his NATO policies since 2009 have backfired. Is it the West, or Putin who calls the shots in Ukraine? Has NATO reignited the Cold War? Did it create a bigger problem in Libya? And did it botch its mission in Afghanistan? It's a set of principles, based on the concept that sovereignty is not a right, but a responsibility. One of the pillars of the UN declaration is that if a state fails to protect its citizens from mass atrocities - and peaceful measures have failed - the international community has the responsibility to intervene through coercive measures such as economic sanctions. Military intervention is considered the last resort....

"Complete disarmament" of the American people Paul Joseph Watson Infowars.com Monday, July 16, 2012 The UN Arms Trade Treaty that has been identified by observers as a flagrant threat to the second amendment and which Barack Obama is determined to sign has its roots in a 1961 State Department memorandum which explains how the United Nations will oversee "complete disarmament" of the American people under the ruse of preventing war. The UN Arms Treaty has caused so much controversy because it outlines a plan to target "all types of conventional weapons, notably including small arms and light weapons," acco...

US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter says the NATO military alliance may join a coalition purportedly targeting Daesh Takfiri militants in Syria and Iraq. “Thanks to the leadership of NATO Jens Stoltenberg we are exploring the possibility of NATO joining the coalition as a member itself,” Carter said on Thursday after a meeting with the coalition members in Brussels. All of NATO’s 28 members are individually part of the US-led coalition that has been conducting air raids in Syria since 2014. On Thursday, Stoltenberg said NATO had deployed three military vessels to the Aegean Sea to carry out reconnaissance and surveillance operations for what he called countering human trafficking amid the refugee crisis in Europe. “This is about helping Greece, Turkey and the European Union with stemmin...

President Trump is having his first face-to-face meeting Wednesday with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and the two will be holding a brief news conference after their meeting. According to National Security Council officials, the two are discussing Russia and Syria, as well as Ukraine, and the fight against ISIS. Shortly before their news conference, a U.N. Now we can talk in confidence
Did you guess that we've been done wrong
Lies jumped the queue to be first in line
Such a shameless design
He thinks he's well screened from the man at the top
It's a shame that his children disagree
They cooly decide to sell him down the line
Daddy's brainwashing time
He's a dodo, no no didn't hear it from me
He's a dodo, no no didn't hear it from me
She's quite enthralled with the childhood of yore
When a unit was a figure not a she
When lovers chose each other now the perk's are due
Another memo to screw
She's a dodo, no no didn't hear it from me
She's a dodo, no no didn't hear it from me
Can you wipe your nose my child without them stlotting in your file a photograph
Can you sleep alone at night wake to find the scorching light of neighbour Jim
He's come to turn you in
Another dodo, no no, didn't hear it from me
Another dodo, no no, didn't hear it from me
Another do, do
