The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO /ˈneɪtoʊ/; French: Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord; OTAN), also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's headquarters are located in Haren, Brussels, Belgium, where the Supreme Allied Commander also resides. Belgium is one of the 28 member states across North America and Europe, the newest of which, Albania and Croatia, joined in April 2009. An additional 22 countries participate in NATO's Partnership for Peace program, with 15 other countries involved in institutionalized dialogue programmes. The combined military spending of all NATO members constitutes over 70 percent of the global total. Members' defense spending is supposed to amount to 2 percent of GDP.

The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major territories and various possessions. The 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is in the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The territories are scattered about the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. At 3.8 million square miles (9.842 million km2) and with over 320 million people, the country is the world's third or fourth-largest by total area and the third most populous. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries. The geography and climate of the United States are also extremely diverse, and the country is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin (/ˈpuːtɪn/; Russian: Влади́мир Влади́мирович Пу́тин; IPA: [vlɐˈdʲimʲɪr vlɐˈdʲimʲɪrəvʲɪtɕ ˈputʲɪn], born 7 October 1952) has been the President of Russia since 7 May 2012, succeeding Dmitry Medvedev. Putin previously served as President from 2000 to 2008, and as Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2008 to 2012. During his last term as Prime Minister, he was also the chairman of United Russia, the ruling party.
For 16 years, Putin was an officer in the KGB, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel before he retired to enter politics in his native Saint Petersburg in 1991. He moved to Moscow in 1996 and joined President Boris Yeltsin's administration where he rose quickly, becoming Acting President on 31 December 1999 when Yeltsin unexpectedly resigned. Putin easily won the subsequent 2000 presidential election and was reelected in 2004. Because of constitutionally mandated term limits, Putin was ineligible to run for a third consecutive presidential term in 2008. Dmitry Medvedev won the 2008 presidential election and appointed Putin as Prime Minister, beginning a period of so-called "tandemocracy". In September 2011, following a change in the law extending the presidential term from four years to six, Putin announced that he would seek a third, non-consecutive term as President in the 2012 presidential election, an announcement which led to large-scale protests in many Russian cities. In March 2012, he won the election, which was criticized for procedural irregularities, and is serving a six-year term.

NATO has taken on an important role in international crisis management since the end of the Cold War. Working closely with partner countries, the Alliance helped to end war and build sustainable peace in the Balkans. In the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States, Allies and partners deployed forces to Afghanistan to help bring stability. During the Arab Spring, NATO led an air campaign over Libya to protect civilians being targeted by the Kaddafi dictatorship. At sea NATO and its partners have helped to prevent piracy off the Horn of Africa and are cooperating to fight terrorism in the Mediterranean Sea. NATO has also supported international efforts to stem illegal migration and human trafficking in the Aegean Sea. Watch the full length version of this video here: ht...

The world’s oceans are busy maritime highways. Today, 85 per cent of all international trade in raw material and manufactured goods travels by sea, and tankers carry more than half of the world’s oil. The stakes of maritime security are high, and NATO is determined to help protect its Allies from any possible threats at sea. Through deterrence, collective defence, crisis management and cooperative security, NATO maritime forces work with nations, partners and institutions to improve maritime security and be ready to face any threat.

For the first time, NATO and Jordan have launched a cyber defence project in Jordan to help defend Jordanian critical infrastructure, such as energy plants and telecommunications equipment. This is designed to protect key parts of the country from attacks by criminal or terrorist organisations, such as the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). NATO Channel visited the country to find out how the project will protect a country that has ISIL fighters right on its border.
Operation Allied Force, the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) action in the Yugoslav province of Kosovo in 1999, marked the first time the organization actually undertook a large-scale troop mobilization. Sparked by genocidal acts on the part of the Serb-dominated Yugoslavian government against ethnic Albanians, the 78-day operation was launched on March 24, 1999. It proved a success, restoring peace to Kosovo and helping to set in motion events that brought about the downfall of Yugoslavia's president, Slobodan Milosevic, 16 months later. Of perhaps even greater significance, it illustrated NATO's capability to fulfill the peacekeeping mission for which it had been established 50 years earlier.
Deteriorating Russia-US relations: 'It all started from Yugoslavia' Relations between Moscow and Washington did not deteriorate because of or during the Syrian conflict, Putin said in a remark to a journalist, adding: "Just remember what was going on about Yugoslavia, it all started from there." The Russian leader said that it's not about any third side in particular, but relations worsen because "one country" wants to impose its policy and decisions upon the rest of the world. "We are not against this country, but we oppose that decisions are made on a unilateral basis and are not thought through considering historic, cultural and religious peculiarities of one country or another," even if there is a conflict within the affected nation, Putin said. Alliance Future Surveillance and Control shows the steps NATO is taking to plan decades into the future. The effort NATO is making today will help retain its information advantage after 2035, while ensuring new systems are cost effective and fit for purpose. The Airborne Warning and Control System (or AWACS) has been NATO’s eyes in the sky since the 1980s. AWACS has served in every NATO operation as a visible symbol of the Alliance’s presence, while making important contributions in air surveillance, command and control, and other missions crucial to the Alliance’s defence and security. AWACS will retire in 2035, after 50 years of service. At the 2016 NATO Summit in Warsaw, NATO launched Alliance Future Surveillance and Control – or AFSC – to plan how we maintain awareness and command ...
As the crisis in Ukraine continues, countries in Russia's immediate proximity are being confronted with difficult choices. That is to join NATO or not. This debate is especially notable in Sweden and Finland. Where public support for the alliance has risen. A survey in Finland showed that support for NATO membership increased from 20 percent in 2013 to 22 percent in 2014. A similar survey was held in Sweden, which showed an increase from 30 percent to 36 percent in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Now it's important to note that these numbers vary slightly from poll to poll, but one thing is certain, the overwhelming majority in both countries opposes joining NATO. And it is for this reason that both countries have held no referendum's regarding this subjects, simply because the local political...

𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝑹𝒆𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝑵𝒆𝒘𝒔 𝑺𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝑭𝒊𝒏𝒍𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑺𝒘𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒏 𝒃𝒆 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝑵𝑨𝑻𝑶? As the crisis in Ukraine keeps, international locations in Russia's immediately proximity are being confronted with tough choices. That is to enroll in NATO or now not. This debate is specifically super in Sweden and Finland. Where public help for the alliance has risen. A survey in Finland confirmed that help for NATO membership improved from 20 percentage in 2013 to 22 percentage in 2014. A similar survey changed into held in Sweden, which confirmed an boom from 30 percentage to 36 percent in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Now it's important to notice that those numbers vary slightly from poll to poll, however one element is certain, the overpowering majority in each countries opposes joining NATO. And it's far for this reason t...
The world’s oceans are busy maritime highways. Today, 85 per cent of all international trade in raw material and manufactured goods travels by sea, and tankers carry more than half of the world’s oil. Nineteen NATO nations are contributing navy and marine forces to Trident Juncture 2015, the Alliance’s biggest and most ambitious exercise in more than a decade. More than 70 ships and submarines, maritime patrol aircraft and 3,000 marines are taking part in the maritime portion of the exercise taking place off the coast of Portugal, Spain and Italy and at NATO’s Maritime Command in the United Kingdom. ====================================================== -------Other videos : Incredible Speed U.s. EU force helps Bosnian agencies fight terrorists in NATO-backed drill. SARAJEVO (Reuters) - A military helicopter lands to evacuate people wounded during a police raid against terrorists who took hostages at Sarajevo airport - part of the first joint drill by the EU peacekeeping force (EUFOR) in Bosnia and local army and police. In the exercise, part of the drill dubbed “Quick Response 2017”, Sarajevo is hit by severe flooding, and EUFOR flies in to help the population. There are also protests across the country and a risk of terrorist groups linked to organized crime rings smuggling arms and fake documents. “This was a realistic exercise and an opportunity to demonstrate that we have capacities, power and determination to quickly and efficiently respond to any security threat,” said ...

NATO is preparing Estonia for potential war with Russia by beefing up the country's cyber security and conducting rigorous military drills. But as Foreign Correspondent reporter Eric Campbell discovers, NATO is more a provocateur in the eyes of many ethnic Russians, who make up a quarter of Estonia’s population. Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures Since gaining independence in 1991, Estonia has seen huge economic and technological advances. But underlying its prosperity is renewed concern about Russian occupation, 25 years after the end of the Soviet Union. "If you don’t want a war, prepare for a war", says Kirsten, one of thousands of reservists who signed up after Russia annexed Crimea. The setting of NATO's annual war ga...

From 1914's grim reality to today's virtual reality, this mini documentary looks at how health care played a key role in the 1914-18 war. It hears how most soldiers actually survived the trenches, but were at great threat from infection and disease. Today's combat treatment can often be traced back to improvements made in the Great War. But does this mean that war is good for medicine?

According to the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufactures' Institute (SAAMI) It is dangerous to shoot a 5.56x45 NATO in a gun chambered in the sporting round of .223 Rem. This is not something new they stated this warning more than 25 years ago, and it still stands. I know there are those out there that will claim that they have fired 5.56 in their 223 all the time with no problem, but it's a risk I'm not willing to take. Hope this video was interesting to you...please feel free to comment or video response with further information. Th...

Since the coup against the elected Yanukovich government in Ukraine on February 22, 2014, an international crisis has been brewing -- involving the U.S., E.U., and Russia, and closely linked to the expansion of NATO since the 90s. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created by the U.S. and Western European nations to militarily counter the Soviet Union. However, after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, NATO was not disbanded but was significantly enlarged. At a meeting on January 10, 2015 two speakers, authorities well equipped to explore this subject, discussed the background causes of the Ukraine troubles (now drawing the U.S. and Russia closer to possible military confrontation). Speaking were Dr. John J. Mearsheimer, co-director of Program on International Security Policy at...

The Madsen LAR (light automatic rifle) was an attempt by the main Danish arms manufacturer to get into the military rifle market after World War Two (they also released a bolt action rifle around the same time, the Model 47). The first version of the LAR was chambered for 7.62x39mm and submitted to Finnish testing, where it lost out to the Valmet-made Rk-62. Madsen then scaled up the working parts of the rifle and offered it in 7.62mm NATO for testing by the rest of the international military community. Unfortunately for the company, there were no takers, and the rifle was never put into serial production. At its mechanical heart, the Madsen LAR is a Kalashnikov system, sharing the long stroke gas piston and the exact same style of rotating bolt and bolt carrier as the AK. It uses an alum...
