The Japan News apologizes for having used these misleading expressions and will add a note stating that they were inappropriate to all the articles in question in our database. We also have a list of the articles on our website (the-japan-news.com)

TOKYO (AP) — Japan's biggest newspaper apologized in print Friday for using the term "sex slaves" in its English-language edition to describe Asian women forced into Japanese military-run brothels during World War II.
The conservative Yomiuri said in articles in English and Japanese that it was inappropriate to have used the phrase and others implying the women were coerced to provide sex. The newspaper identified 97 articles, including 85 of its own, with "sex slaves" or similar expressions between 1992 and 2013.
It said non-Japanese people have difficulty understanding the term "comfort women," used in Japan to describe the women, so its English-language edition added explanations improperly suggesting that "coercion by the Japanese government or the army was an objective fact."

Journalists from Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) and Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper, who went to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin on Dec. 12 in Moscow, were greeted by a surprise guest. Yume, an Akita breed dog that was gifted to Putin in 2012 by the Japanese government, was present in the room.
When a few journalists said they were scared of the dog, Putin replied that Yume was a “no-nonsense” dog.
“I was told that you wanted to see my dog, Yume. You can see that she is in great shape,” Putin said. “There are many people here, with camcorders running, lights shining and cameras clicking. She is being a guard dog.”
The Japanese government had planned to present the Russian President a male Akita as a companion to Yume during Putin’s upcoming summit with Shinzo Abe. But Russia apparently turned down the offer.

Welcome to The Japan News. Today, we're going to show you some features of our brand new building.
The 200-meter-tall skyscraper stands out among the group of buildings between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace.
Inside the 33-story building, there are two multipurpose halls, one of which has 501 seats.
Now, back to The Japan News office. This is where we make our paper every day. The nationwide English daily newspaper covers a wide range of events happening in Japan and overseas. Recently, we introduced new pages called POP AND COOL and NIPPON SPORTS to help our readers keep up with Japan's pop culture and sports scenes. There're also new features on our Learning pages.
Some may be surprised, but our office building also has a medical clinic and a special exhibition area. The current exhibition is about the Yomiuri Giants baseball team.
On the rooftop, there are 150 solar power panels, generating power to save on electricity used in the building as well as to prepare for power outages.
On the 12th floor, we have an around-the-clock-convenience store and a book store as well as a garden.
In the cafeteria, we can pay for our meals with our company ID, so we don't have to worry about having an empty wallet!
If you are up for more relaxed and luxurious lunch or dinner break, we recommend the restaurant on the 32nd floor. On a sunny day, we have a great view of Tokyo. If you're lucky, you will get to see a clear view of Mt. Fuji.
Now, some parts of the Yomiuri building are open to the public. If you're interested, please visit our website to arrange a tour.

The Asahi Shimbun’s admission of mistakes in its reports on the so-called comfort women and retraction of some of the contents earlier this month has continued to stir the political pot, prompting some members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party to demand the release of a new government statement on the issue to replace a 1993 statement made by then Chief Cabinet Secretary Yohei Kono.
LDP members belonging to a group studying Japan’s future and history education held an emergency plenary meeting of the group Friday.
About 40 lawmakers attended the plenary meeting of the group headed by Keiji Furuya, chairman of the National Public Safety Commission. One participant after another criticized the Kono statement, which expressed the government’s “sincere apology and remorse” to former comfort women, saying the government should deny the Kono statement or clarify that it is not based on fact.

Yomiuri Shimbun
The Yomiuri Shimbun (読売新聞, Yomiuri Shinbun) is a Japanese newspaper published in Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and other major Japanese cities. It is part of the Yomiuri Group, Japan's largest media conglomerate. It is one of the five national newspapers in Japan; the other four are the Asahi Shimbun, the Mainichi Shimbun, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, and the Sankei Shimbun. Founded in 1874, the Yomiuri Shimbun is credited with having the largest newspaper circulation in the world, having a combined morning and evening circulation of 14,323,781 through January 2002. In 2010, the daily was the number one in the list of the world's biggest selling newspapers with a circulation of 10,021,000. As of mid-year 2011, it still had a combined morning-evening circulation of almost 13.5 million for its national edition. The paper is printed twice a day and in several different local editions.
Yomiuri Shimbun established the Yomiuri Prize in 1948. Its winners have included Yukio Mishima and Haruki Murakami.

World War II
World War II (WWII or WW2), also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, although related conflicts began earlier. TOKYO (AP) — Japan's biggest newspaper apologized in print Friday for using the term "sex slaves" in its English-language edition to describe Asian women forced into Japanese military-run brothels during World War II.
The conservative Yomiuri said in articles in English and Japanese that it was inappropriate to have used the phrase and others implying the women were coerced to provide sex. The newspaper identified 97 articles, including 85 of its own, with "sex slaves" or similar expressions between 1992 and 2013.
It said non-Japanese people have difficulty understanding the term "comfort women," used in Japan to describe the women, so its English-language edition added explanations improperly suggesting that "coercion by the Japanese government or the army was an objective fact."

Welcome to The Japan News. Today, we're going to show you some features of our brand new building.
The 200-meter-tall skyscraper stands out among the group of buildings between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace.
Inside the 33-story building, there are two multipurpose halls, one of which has 501 seats.
Now, back to The Japan News office. This is where we make our paper every day. The nationwide English daily newspaper covers a wide range of events happening in Japan and overseas. Recently, we introduced new pages called POP AND COOL and NIPPON SPORTS to help our readers keep up with Japan's pop culture and sports scenes. There're also new features on our Learning pages.
Some may be surprised, but our office building also has a medical clinic and a special exhibition area. The current exhibition is about the Yomiuri Giants baseball team.
On the rooftop, there are 150 solar power panels, generating power to save on electricity used in the building as well as to prepare for power outages.
On the 12th floor, we have an around-the-clock-convenience store and a book store as well as a garden.
In the cafeteria, we can pay for our meals with our company ID, so we don't have to worry about having an empty wallet!
If you are up for more relaxed and luxurious lunch or dinner break, we recommend the restaurant on the 32nd floor. On a sunny day, we have a great view of Tokyo. If you're lucky, you will get to see a clear view of Mt. Fuji.

The Asahi Shimbun’s admission of mistakes in its reports on the so-called comfort women and retraction of some of the contents earlier this month has continued to stir the political pot, prompting some members of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party to demand the release of a new government statement on the issue to replace a 1993 statement made by then Chief Cabinet Secretary Yohei Kono.
LDP members belonging to a group studying Japan’s future and history education held an emergency plenary meeting of the group Friday.
About 40 lawmakers attended the plenary meeting of the group headed by Keiji Furuya, chairman of the National Public Safety Commission. One participant after another criticized the Kono statement, which expressed the government’s “sincere apology and remorse” to former comfort women, saying the government should deny the Kono statement or clarify that it is not based on fact.
