Brendan John Canty (born March 9, 1966 in Teaneck, New Jersey) is an American musician, composer, producer and film maker, best known as the drummer for the band Fugazi.
In 2007, Stylus Magazine ranked Canty at #29 on the list of "50 Greatest Rock Drummers", based on his drumming work with Fugazi.
Canty began playing drums at the age of 15 in the short-lived band Deadline, featured on the Flex Your Head compilation. He began his musical career in earnest in 1985 with Rites of Spring, after which he ended up playing drums in One Last Wish, and Happy Go Licky.
Canty joined Fugazi, as their drummer in 1987 and recorded and toured with the group until their "indefinite hiatus" in 2003.
Many of Fugazi's songs since Repeater are based on guitar riffs introduced at rehearsals by Canty. An adept multi-instrumentalist, Canty also writes songs on piano (he plays a skeletal version of "Bed for the Scraping" on the Instrument DVD), as well as bass lines for some songs. He is also noted for using a large farmers bell as part of his drum kit.
Saint Brendan of Clonfert or Bréanainn of Clonfert (c. 484 – c. 577) (Irish: Naomh Breandán; Latin: Brendanus; Icelandic: (heilagur) Brandanus) called "the Navigator", "the Voyager", or "the Bold" is one of the early Irish monastic saints. He is chiefly renowned for his legendary quest to the "Isle of the Blessed," also called Saint Brendan's Island. The Voyage of Saint Brendan could be called an immram (Irish navigational story). He was one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland.
Saint Brendan's feast day is celebrated on 16 May by the Roman Catholics, Anglicans, and Orthodox Christians.
There is very little secure information concerning Brendan's life, although at least the approximate dates of his birth and death, and accounts of some events in his life, are found in the Irish annals and genealogies. The first mention of Brendan occurs in Adamnan's Vita Sancti Columbae, written between 679 and 704. The first notice of him as a seafarer appears in the ninth century Martyrology of Tallaght.
Joseph Francis "Joe" Lally (born December 3, 1963 in Silver Spring, Maryland) is a bassist, vocalist and record label owner, best known for his work with Fugazi.
Joe Lally formed Fugazi with Ian MacKaye in 1987, and has remained the group's bassist through their "indefinite hiatus" in 2003.
Lally founded Tolotta Records (distributed through Dischord Records), which was active from 1994 until 2001, putting out notable releases by such artists as Dead Meadow, Spirit Caravan, Stinking Lizaveta & Orthrelm.
In early 2002, Lally joined ex-Frodus members Shelby Cinca and Jason Hamacher on a project originally called The Black Sea, which would change its name to Decahedron and release an EP and an album before Lally left the band. He has also worked with John Frusciante and Josh Klinghoffer as the group Ataxia, releasing two albums: Automatic Writing (2004) and AW II (2007).
In 2006, Lally was playing solo shows on bass with slight laptop accompaniment in various college towns, leading up to his first solo album, There to Here, which was released in the fall of 2006. It features Jerry Busher, Ian MacKaye, Amy Farina, Guy Picciotto, Scott Weinrich and many other musicians from the DC music scene.
Eddie Vedder (born Edward Louis Severson; December 23, 1964) is an American musician, singer and songwriter best known as a member of the rock band Pearl Jam, with whom he performs lead vocals and is one of three guitarists. He is known for his powerful baritone vocals.
He is also involved in making music and contributes to albums by other artists. In 2007, Vedder released his first solo album as a soundtrack for the film Into the Wild (2007). His second album Ukulele Songs and a live DVD titled Water on the Road were 2011.
Vedder was born Edward Louis Severson III in the Chicago suburb of Evanston, Illinois, on December 23, 1964, to Karen Lee Vedder and Edward Louis Severson, Jr. His parents divorced in 1965, when Vedder was an infant. His mother soon remarried, to a man named Peter Mueller. Vedder was raised believing that Mueller was his biological father, and he went by the name Edward Mueller for a time. Vedder's ancestry includes German and Danish.
While living in Evanston, Vedder's family fostered seven younger children in a group home. In the mid-1970s, the family, including Vedder's three younger half-brothers, moved to San Diego County, California. It was at this point that Vedder, who had received a guitar from his mother on his twelfth birthday, began turning to music (as well as surfing) as a source of comfort. He particularly found solace in The Who's 1973 album, Quadrophenia. He said, "When I was around 15 or 16... I felt all alone... I was all alone—except for music." His mother and Mueller divorced when Vedder was in his late teens. His mother and brothers moved back to the Chicago area, but Vedder remained with his stepfather in California so he would not have to change high schools.

Found Tapes is a weekly show that highlights some of the rarest, wierdest, and sometimes just really cool videos that people send to us. This week, head down to DC to the legendary 9:30 Club to catch a live performance from the prolific (and very charming) Bob Mould. Here, the iconic Hüsker Dü frontman is backed by drummer Brendan Canty (Fugazi), bassist/vocalist Jason Narducy (Rocket Over Sweden), and keyboards/vocals Richard Morel (Morel). This lineup was in the midst of 2005's Body of Song tour, which marked Mould's first non-solo tour in over a decade, and the first in which Hüsker Dü material was aired by a full band since their own 1988 split. The quartet breeze through twenty-three songs from Hüsker Dü, Mould's former band Sugar, and his own solo material (including a heart-wrenc...

Every Other Summer is a full-length documentary film about Wilco’s Solid Sound Festival. Directed by Christoph Green and Brendan Canty of Trixie Films and shot in 2013, it documents the Chicago band’s three-day music and arts gathering that takes place at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA. The film’s title references how frequently the festival is held. In addition to performances by Wilco, Neko Case, Yo La Tengo, The Dream Syndicate, Lucius, Foxygen, White Denim, Sam Amidon, Sean Rowe, The Relatives and more, plus appearances by comedians Reggie Watts, John Hodgman and Jen Kirkman, Every Other Summer offers a behind-the-scenes look at the festival’s utopian vibe and the impact it has had on the small Rust Belt town where it takes place.
