Hello again! For new viewers, I am an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher of English) on the JET Program. I was assigned to live in subsidized teachers' housing which was arranged for me when I got this job. The rent is 18,000 yen (about $145) per month. Basically all of the furniture was already here (supplied by my BoE & left by predecessors), but I've added my touch to the place~ I live in the inaka (countryside) of Japan ♡
This was a requested video & I really wanted to make it so I could preserve the memory of this place, since I will be moving to Tokyo in 4 months.. I'm so glad I can hear some of my students playing in the background ; u ;
*Review of some of the Japanese words I used in the video:
Genkan - entrance area where you remove your shoes
Aircon - individual, wall-mounted air conditioning/heating unit
Futon - traditional Japanese-style bed that is essentially a big flat pillow that you lay on the floor to sleep on
Kotatsu - heated table with blanket
Tatami - traditional Japanese flooring made of woven straw
*In case you're wondering why there is a really low mirror in the shower - Japanese people usually shower by sitting on a small stool in front of the mirror and then using the shower head to wash their body (you can take the it off of the holder on the wall).
*Japan doesn't have central heating, air conditioning or even insulation in many of its buildings! That's why kotatsu, hot baths & aircons are popular here.
*In the video, I said I didn't really need the aircon in the living room because I have a kotatsu to keep me warm. That's because, since winter is just now ending, I forgot all about how useful it is in summer when used for cool air - i definitely need it !!

Ehime Prefecture
Ehime Prefecture (愛媛県, Ehime-ken) is a prefecture in northwestern Shikoku, Japan. The capital is Matsuyama.
History
Until the Meiji Restoration, Ehime Prefecture was known as Iyo Province. Since before the Heian period, the area was dominated by fishermen and sailors who played an important role in defending Japan against pirates and Mongolian invasions.
After the Battle of Sekigahara, the Tokugawa shogun gave the area to his allies, including Kato Yoshiaki who built Matsuyama Castle, forming the basis for the modern city of Matsuyama.
The name Ehime comes from the kuniumi part of the Kojiki where Iyo Province is mythologically named Ehime "lovely princess."
In 2012, a research group from the University of Tokyo and Ehime University said they had discovered rare earth deposits in Matsuyama.
Geography
Located in the northwestern part of Shikoku, Ehime faces the Seto Inland Sea to the north and is bordered by Kagawa and Tokushima in the east and Kōchi in the south.
The prefecture includes both high mountains in the inland region and a long coastline, with many islands in the Seto Inland Sea. The westernmost arm of Ehime, the Sadamisaki Peninsula, is the narrowest peninsula in Japan.

Hello again! For new viewers, I am an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher of English) on the JET Program. I was assigned to live in subsidized teachers' housing which was arranged for me when I got this job. The rent is 18,000 yen (about $145) per month. Basically all of the furniture was already here (supplied by my BoE & left by predecessors), but I've added my touch to the place~ I live in the inaka (countryside) of Japan ♡ This was a requested video & I really wanted to make it so I could preserve the memory of this place, since I will be moving to Tokyo in 4 months.. Hello again! For new viewers, I am an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher of English) on the JET Program. *Review of some of the Japanese words I used in the video:
Genkan - entrance area where you remove your shoes
Aircon - individual, wall-mounted air conditioning/heating unit
Futon - traditional Japanese-style bed that is essentially a big flat pillow that you lay on the floor to sleep on
Kotatsu - heated table with blanket
Tatami - traditional Japanese flooring made of woven straw
*In case you're wondering why there is a really low mirror in the shower - Japanese people usually shower by sitting on a small stool in front of the mirror and then using the shower head to wash their body (you can take the it off of the holder on the wall).
*Japan doesn't have central heating, air conditioning or even insulation in many of its buildings! That's why kotatsu, hot baths & aircons are popular here.
*In the video, I said I didn't really need the aircon in the living room because I have a kotatsu to keep me warm. That's because, since winter is just now ending, I forgot all about how useful it is in summer when used for cool air - i definitely need it !!

The route was completed in 1999. This "sea road" uses bridges to join the six islands of Mukaishima, Innoshima, Ikuchijima, Oomishima, Hakatajima, and Oshima. The Shimanami Kaido features beautiful island vistas, fresh seafood, and lots of interesting sightseeing spots. This is Japan's first cross-channel cycling route. Some call the Seto Inland Sea Cycling Road the "Cyclist's Holy Land." There are 14 rental cycle terminals along the approximately 70km route, and it's possible to drop off a rented cycle at any terminal, so riders can ride for all or just part of the journey. The Shimanami Kaido connects Onomichi, Hiroshima and Imabari, Ehime.
This is Japan's first cross-channel cycling route. Some call the Seto Inland Sea Cycling Road the "Cyclist's Holy Land."
There are 14 rental cycle terminals along the approximately 70km route, and it's possible to drop off a rented cycle at any terminal, so riders can ride for all or just part of the journey.
Each of the six islands dotting the Seto Inland Sea has a unique charm. Enjoy beautiful views while surrounded by nature.
