Utah Valley (aka "Happy Valley") is a valley in North Central Utah located in Utah County, and is considered part of the Wasatch Front. It contains the cities of Provo, Orem, and their suburbs, including Alpine, American Fork, Cedar Hills, Elk Ridge, Genola, Goshen, Highland, Lehi, Lindon, Mapleton, Payson, Pleasant Grove, Salem, Santaquin, Saratoga Springs, Spanish Fork, Springville, Vineyard and Woodland Hills.
Utah Lake is a natural shallow fresh water lake in its center. All rivers in the valley flow into Utah Lake, which itself empties into the Jordan River to the north. That river flows into the Salt Lake Valley through the Jordan Narrows, a gap in the Traverse Mountains.
Novell and WordPerfect were instrumental in making the Utah Valley a focus for software development. Today this area has many small companies whose employees have previously worked at Novell. Also located there are Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University. Adobe moved into this area which became known as Silicon Slopes.
Utah Valley University, or UVU, is a publicly funded university located in Orem, Utah, United States with a 2011 enrollment of 33,395 students. Utah Valley University is the largest public university in the State of Utah. The university offers approximately 58 bachelor's degrees, 66 associate degrees, 21 certificate/diploma programs, and 3 high-demand master's degrees in education, business, and nursing.
The university’s Wasatch Campus in Heber City, Utah, also offers bachelor's degrees in business management and secondary education, as well as associate degrees in accounting, behavioral science, business management, elementary education, and general education.
Previously called Utah Valley State College (UVSC), the school attained university status in July 2008, changing to Utah Valley University. Matthew S. Holland, appointed as the first president of UVU, officially began his duties on June 1, 2009.
UVU was founded in the fall of 1941, when the Utah State Vocational Office consolidated federal work program classes into one campus in Provo. At this time, the school was known as the Central Utah Vocational School.
Utah (/ˈjuːtɔː/ or i/ˈjuːtɑː/; Navajo: Áshįįh bi Tó Hahoodzo; Arapaho: Wo'tééneihí ) is a state in the western United States. It became the 45th state admitted to the Union on January 4, 1896. Utah is the 13th-largest, the 31st-most populous, and the 10th-least-densely populated of the 50 United States. Utah has a population of nearly 3 million (Census estimate for July 1, 2015), approximately 80% of whom live along the Wasatch Front, centering on Salt Lake City. Utah is bordered by Colorado to the east, Wyoming to the northeast, Idaho to the north, Arizona to the south, and Nevada to the west. It also touches a corner of New Mexico in the southeast.
Approximately 62% of Utahns are reported to be members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or LDS (Mormons), which greatly influences Utah culture and daily life. The world headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) is located in Utah's state capital, Salt Lake City. Utah is the most religiously homogeneous state in the United States, the only state with a Mormon majority, and the only state with a majority population belonging to a single church.
A university (Latin: universitas, "a whole") is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which grants academic degrees in various subjects and typically provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars."
The original Latin word "universitas" refers in general to "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc." At the time of the emergence of urban town life and medieval guilds, specialised "associations of students and teachers with collective legal rights usually guaranteed by charters issued by princes, prelates, or the towns in which they were located" came to be denominated by this general term. Like other guilds, they were self-regulating and determined the qualifications of their members.
In modern usage the word has come to mean "An institution of higher education offering tuition in mainly non-vocational subjects and typically having the power to confer degrees," with the earlier emphasis on its corporate organization considered as applying historically to Medieval universities.
A valley is a low area between hills, often with a river running through it.
In geology, a valley or dale is a depression that is longer than it is wide. The terms U-shaped and V-shaped are descriptive terms of geography to characterize the form of valleys. Most valleys belong to one of these two main types or a mixture of them, (at least) with respect to the cross section of the slopes or hillsides.
A valley in its broadest geographic sense is also known as a dale. A valley through which a river runs may also be referred to as a vale. A small, secluded, and often wooded valley is known as a dell or in Scotland as a glen. A wide, flat valley through which a river runs is known in Scotland as a strath. A mountain cove is a small valley, closed at one or both ends, in the central or southern Appalachian Mountains which sometimes results from the erosion of a geologic window. A small valley surrounded by mountains or ridges is sometimes known as a hollow. A deep, narrow valley is known as a cwm (also spelled combe or coombe). Similar geological structures, such as canyons, ravines, gorges, gullies, and kloofs, are not usually referred to as valleys. See also: "chine". A valley formed by erosion is called an erosional valley; a valley formed by geologic events such as drop faults or the rise of highlands is called a structural valley.
UVU is a teaching institution where students learn, do and become. At UVU, the fusion of academic and hands-on learning is referred to as "engaged learning." Along with the institution's long-rooted commitment to serving the needs of the community, UVU's emphasis on engaged learning led to its classification as "community engaged" by the Carnegie Foundation. Utah Valley University is a teaching institution which provides opportunity, promotes student success, and meets regional educational needs. UVU builds on a foundation of substantive scholarly and creative work to foster engaged learning. The university prepares professionally competent people of integrity who, as lifelong learners and leaders, serve as stewards of a globally interdependent community.

Travel video about destination Arches in The USA. Arches is an area in the U.S. state of Utah that is one of the most famous national parks in North America and owes its fame to its fantastic sandstone arches. In spite of its comparatively modest size of three hundred square kilometres it boasts one of the most magnificent landscapes in the south west of the United States. The park's natural arches have become its unmistakable landmark and the impressive process of erosion that began in Prehistoric times demonstrates how even the hardest rock can be manipulated by the forces of nature. Landscape Arch is one of the park's most striking formations. With a span of around a hundred metres it is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Delicate Arch rises up grandly and majestically above...

Most visitors spend their time in Yosemite Valley, which despite being only 7 miles long and 1 mile wide, packs in more jaw-dropping scenery than just about any other place on Earth. Near the valley entrance stop at Tunnel View, and stand before a panorama that’s reduced generations of visitors to silence. From Tunnel View it’s just a short drive to Bridalveil Fall. Fed by snowmelt, the fall reaches its thundering peak in May. The Yosemite Valley ring road follows the banks of the Merced River, which shifts in character as it thunders from the valley walls, before gently winding across the valley floor. The ring r...

In what will be only the third production in the new Noorda Theatre, Utah Valley University's Department of Theatrical Arts will bring the high-drama of William Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" to the stage beginning Thursday, Dec. 3. "This romantic comedy about the vagaries of love and misplaced jealousy is just as relevant today as it was when it was written 510 years ago," said John Graham, director of the UVU production. "It just goes to show that we haven't progressed as much as we think." "Much Ado About Nothing" tells a story of love, wit and words. The bickering of Benedict and Beatrice and the drama of Claudio and Hero has delighted audiences for centuries. Although there have been numerous productions, UVU is putting a new spin on the story by placing it in the Mexica...
Utah Valley University's Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage & Screen presents Gilbert and Sullivan's light-hearted comic opera "The Mikado."
The Department of Theatrical Arts for Stage and Screen mounted a production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest in December. This production was very well received by local audiences as well as in the local media. It was invited to participate in the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in February, where it was also well received. This production confronted contemporary generalizations about gender by using an all male cast. It examined what is "masculine" and what is" feminine" by drawing upon the virtues of the sexes as defined by Renaissance and Contemporary cultures as "human nature." In addition to exploring gender ideology, this adaptation of The Tempest streamlined characters, language, and story to maximize the play's appreciation by modern audiences....
