King's Field IV

King's Field IV, known in North America as King's Field: The Ancient City, is a medieval-themed first-person role playing video game produced by FromSoftware for the PlayStation 2 in 2001. It is the fourth game in the King's Field series and the last one released for home consoles. Agetec published the North America release in 2002, while Metro 3D published the Europe release in 2003.

Plot

An accursed idol responsible for the destruction of an ancient race has resurfaced to wreak havoc once again among the kingdoms of man. You must return the idol to the Ancient City to break its curse, but monsters of unspeakable horror haunt the ruins. There is a palpable fear in the air of the Ancient City—even the monsters themselves fear the evil that has returned.

Treasures beyond imagination await the warrior bold enough to attempt the journey, strong enough to face the minions of death, and wise enough to follow the path that leads to the essence of light. Use your sword arm well to rid the land of a potent curse. Be aware that should the sword fail, you have the magical arts to serve you in your quest. Learn the proper time and place for each or you too shall be counted amongst those lost forever.

City

A city is a large and permanent human settlement. Although there is no agreement on how a city is distinguished from a town in general English language meanings, many cities have a particular administrative, legal, or historical status based on local law.

Cities generally have complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, benefiting both parties in the process, but it also presents challenges to managing urban growth.

A big city or metropolis usually has associated suburbs and exurbs. Such cities are usually associated with metropolitan areas and urban areas, creating numerous business commuters traveling to urban centers for employment. Once a city expands far enough to reach another city, this region can be deemed a conurbation or megalopolis. In terms of population, the largest city proper is Shanghai, while the fastest-growing is Dubai.

Origins

There is not enough evidence to assert what conditions gave rise to the first cities. Some theorists have speculated on what they consider suitable pre-conditions and basic mechanisms that might have been important driving forces.

Ancient Siam

Ancient Siam (also known as Ancient City)(Thai: เมืองโบราณ, Mueang Boran) is a park constructed under the patronage of Lek Viriyaphant and spreading over 200 acres (0.81 km²) in the shape of Thailand.

The founder's original idea was to create a golf course with miniatures of Thailand's historically significant structures spread around the course. During his research he found most structures being severely damaged over time and decided instead of creating new miniatures to save the original structures when possible or re-creating them full size or scaled down.

Ancient Siam is dubbed as the world's largest outdoor museum. Situated close to the Crocodile Farm in Samut Prakan province, the 320-hectare city features 116 structures of Thailand's famous monuments and architectural attractions. The grounds of Ancient Siam correspond roughly to the shape of the Kingdom, with each of the monuments lying at their correct places geographically. Some of the buildings are life-size replicas of existing or former sites, while others are scaled down.

Ancient history

Ancient history is the aggregate of past events from the beginning of recorded human history and extending as far as the Early Middle Ages or the Postclassical Era. The span of recorded history is roughly 5,000 years, beginning with Sumerian Cuneiform script, the oldest discovered form of coherent writing from the protoliterate period around the 30th century BC.

The term classical antiquity is often used to refer to history in the Old World from the beginning of recorded Greek history in 776 BC (First Olympiad). This roughly coincides with the traditional date of the founding of Rome in 753 BC, the beginning of the history of ancient Rome, and the beginning of the Archaic period in Ancient Greece. Although the ending date of ancient history is disputed, some Western scholars use the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD (the most used), the closure of the Platonic Academy in 529 AD, the death of the emperor Justinian I in 565 AD, the coming of Islam or the rise of Charlemagne as the end of ancient and Classical European history.

The Ancient

The Ancient is a novel by R. A. Salvatore set in his world of Corona. The Ancient is the sequel to The Highwayman. It is about a crippled man named Bransen Garibond, also known as the Highwayman. After being kicked out of Pryd Holding, Bransen is searching for his long lost father, traveling with his wife Cadayle, and her mother Callen.

He gets tricked into fighting a war against the Samhaist leader, Ancient Badden. On a lake just below Badden's Magical Ice Castle, there are societies in the middle of their own conflicts, unaware of Badden's plan to destroy them. Bransen becomes the only person able to save all of the lake's inhabitants, and stop all of northern Honce from being under Badden's Control.

Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 5 - The Lost City of Heracleion In 2000, French underwater archaeologist, Franck Goddio, was searching for 18-century warships in Abu Qir Bay, near the canopic mouth of the Nile river, approximately ten meters beneath the waves, when a giant stone face emerged. The face belonged to a massive stone statue of Thonis-Heracleion, completely submerged, around six and a half kilometres off the Egyptian city of Alexandria's coastline. Franck also discovered 64 ships, 700 anchors, gold coins, more statues, some which towered 16 feet high, ruins of temples and several sarcophagi. The ancient city appeared to contain networks of canals, small sanctuaries and many forgotten dwellings. Archaeologists believe Heracleion City may have beginnings dating to 12th century BC, but vanished beneath the Mediterranean Sea sometime around the 3rd of 2nd century AD, though no one knows why. 4 - Urkesh The city Urkesh flourished between 4,000 and 1,300 BC, the kingdom controlled trade routes between Syria and Mesopotamia, as well as the highlands copper mines. The rich and powerful city was home to the Hurrian civilisation. In mythological texts, this metropolis was called, Home to the Primordial God. Other than that, historians know practically nothing about this ancient Arab civilisation. In the 1980s, Tell Mozan was discovered, a towering mound which hid an ancient palace, temple and open plaza. A decade later, further excavations uncovered a royal palace with Hurrian written scriptures, as well as a flight of descending stairs and an underground shaft believed to be the Urkesh Passage to the Netherworld. Leading researchers to conclude that Tell Mozan, was actually, the lost, buried city of Urkesh. 3 - The Akkadian Empire About 28 miles from Dohuk Iraq, researchers have discovered evidence of a Bronze-Age City, which dates back to around 3,000 BC. This ancient city is believed to have thrived for over a millennium, the walls date back to approximately 2,700 BC. Pieces of tablets, which are said to be from around 1,300 BC, were also discovered on site, the tablet fragments have led to implications that this place once housed a temple to the Mesopotamian weather God Adad. Roads and ruins of a palatial building left over from the Bronze Age, roughly 1,800 BC have also been unearthed here. All of this evidence, as well as a statue of a God-king, named Naram-Sin, point to this ancient city having once belonged to the Akkadian Empire which dates to the years 2340 to 2200 BC. 2 - Helike The legend goes, that a confederation of 12 cities once flourished in ancient Greece, the Achaean League, its leader, the city Helike. One night in 373 BC, the metropolis was obliterated, some believe a massive earthquake followed by a tsunami from the Gulf of Corinth wiped the cities from the face of the Earth. The rescue party found no survivors, over time, the location was lost entirely. In the early 19th century speculations of this ancient Greek city began. Researchers speculated that the base could be buried near Achaea, by the Peloponnesian peninsula. In 2001, excavations for the ancient theorised city gathered steam as ruins of columns began to take shape beneath the layers of Earth. Finally, in 2012, the destruction layer and many ancient artefacts were uncovered, which has led many to believe, that this site, is indeed, the remains of the ancient city of Helike. 1 - The Lowland Hundred This kingdom of legend from ancient Wales is believed to have stood from the sixth century through the 17th century, before vanishing without a trace. The stories say, that the land was submerged under water when Mererid, a priestess of a fairy-well grew angry at the ruler, and caused the water from the well to overflow, sinking the kingdom into memory. A few decades ago, the emergence of prehistoric forests during some stormy weather in Cardigan Bay West Wales, led to the possibility that this kingdom was more than legend. Further investigations revealed a wattle walkway with associated posts, fossilised human and animal footprints, as well as some ancient tools. Researchers continue to search for the remainder of this primordial Welsh World, the remnants are believed to be buried under the Cardigan Bay waters, between Ramsey Island and Bardsey Island.

The slow destruction of the Amazonian rain forest, the felling of thousands of square miles of trees, has not only shown us the result of mans insatiable, and sometimes irresponsible hunger for resources, but also, ironically, what may become one of the most important historical discoveries of the modern age. Evidence of a very ancient, and as yet, unknown civilisation has become apparent upon the now barren landscape. A civilisation which would have dwarfed the Egyptian and roman empires combined. As a result of the drastic deforestation that has taken place over the last few decades to make way for farming land, huge swathes of land features have become visible from the air. Not only are these now grassy areas showing evidence of numerous enormous complex ancient cities, but also the remnants of what could be classified as straight roman roads connecting these massive sites. The only problem is the constructors of these roman roads, came and went along long before the Romans. According to a new report published in the journal of Antiquity, the archaeologist Martii Pärssinen, along with numerous other scientists, have documented more than two hundred and ten geometric structures. The city spreads out over an area more than two hundred and fifty square kilometres, reaching from northern Bolivia to the state of Amazonia in Brazil. Although the early explorers had heard legends from the Indians regarding a fabulously rich Amazonian civilisation, which they named El Dorado, the countless searches for this city of gold, have all invariably ended in failure. No evidence of a vast ancient civilisation within Amazonia had ever materialised, that is until now. Most scholars subsequently concluded that El Dorado was no more than a story. Indeed, scientists believed that the merciless conditions in the jungle were simply too inhospitable to support a large population. The most influential archaeologist of the twentieth century, Betty Meggers, famously dubbed the region a “counterfeit paradise.” In the early nineteen-hundreds, the British explorer Percy Harrison Fawcett, While exploring and mapping much of the same area where the ruins were recently discovered, reported finding large earth mounds filled with ancient and brittle pottery. And Buried under the jungle floor, he claimed he had also found traces of causeways and roadways. Based on this and other evidence, he insisted that the Amazon once contained large populations and at least one, if not more, advanced civilisations. Despite being dismissed and ridiculed as a crank, he set off in 1925 to find the place, which he christened the “City of Z.” Shortly thereafter, his entire party, including his twenty-one-year-old son, Jack, vanished within the jungle, they were never seen of again. Because of the symmetrical shape of many of these mounds now seen from the air, and the way they slant to the north, a possibility that they may have had an astronomical purpose have begun to be seriously looked at. We could quite possibly be on the verge of discovering another highly advanced civilisation which once lived here on earth.

Hey guys, so a few months back I shared with you the story of adventurous geologists who had trekked far into the cold wildernesses of Russia, in an effort to catalogue the largest megalithic site on earth. so remote, they are steeped in legends of snow yetis and mysterious monsters devouring all who dare to venture into these remote areas. With strange occurrences such as that of the “die-atlov” pass, which have supported such fears for many years. When I shared the amazing images of these stoned structures, many argued that they were natural formations, maybe because they struggled to conceive such enormous ancient ruins in such remote places. discoveries that seem to be many hundreds of thousands of years old. Maybe even as old as the great sphinx. more and more is being learnt about them, with ever more daring explorations of the ruins being undertaken, a team discovered a vault in one of the stone megaliths, an access fault that led them into an artificially made stone cavern systems. These underground structures are truly massive, and are undoubtedly constructed by an intelligent builder, hidden for many millennia these caverns are not only massive but constructed using blocks placed upon one another that are over 50 feet in length in some instances, making these stones many thousands of tonnes in weight, seemingly placed effortlessly into the shape of underground walls. This discovery has not really shed light upon how the ancients built such structures, but rather pushed their apparent capabilities farther from our understanding. Modern civilizations have been built right over the top of ancient ones. Today, archaeologists are rediscovering many “lost cities” all around the globe. Here are some of the most amazing finds! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 4. Machu Picchu found in Peru Machu Picchu is one of the most famous and most mysterious ancient cities in the world. It was rediscovered in 1911, when an archaeologist was shown the sprawling city by an 11 year old boy who happened to know where it was. Until that year, it was only known by inhabitants of the area and had remained a well-kept secret. Machu Picchu had remained hidden for 500 years after it was abandoned by its people in the 1500s. The city showcases 200 buildings and terraces high in the Andes mountains. Although the city has been studied for years and excavated by archaeologists, the exact function of it is not yet known. Some suggest it was the seat of the Incan emperor during the time, others say it was a citadel, others say it may have been a religious destination. Although it is a popular tourist destination, Machu Picchu isn’t giving up its secrets just yet. 3. Heracleion (hera-cli-on) found in Egypt Until Franck Goddio quite literally stumbled upon the ruins of this ancient city while looking for French ships, it was more a myth than anything. The city, also known by its Egyptian name Thonis, had been mentioned in ancient texts and on extremely rare inscriptions. In fact, the famed poet Herodotus mentions the city as the port where Hercules enters Egypt (yes, the city was named by the Greeks for Hercules). Herodotus also mentions Helen of Troy making a visit here with Paris, her ill-fated lover. It was also in one of Thonis’ temples that Cleopatra was crowned Queen of Egypt. Heracleion was founded most likely in the 8th century BC and was a thriving metropolis until it sank into the Mediterranean over 1,000 years later. During its time, it would have been the main port of entry to Egypt from anywhere in the Mediterranean, including Greece. The city lay beneath the ocean’s surface under 150 feet of water for 1,200 years before being discovered in 2000. During the archaeological dig to unearth Thonis, priceless artifacts have been found including jewelry, sarcophagi, stone statues (some more than 16 feet tall), ships, gold coins, and more suggesting that the city was more or less abandoned before some event caused it to sink. Everything has been preserved by the sand, making study of this ancient city possible. 2. Abydos (Uh-by-dos) found in Egypt This incredible ancient city was once the capital of Egypt--more than 7,000 years ago. So far, the archaeological discovery has revealed that this residential part of Abydos was most likely home to those who built mausoleums for the royal family, who at the time would have resided in the capital. Until the discovery of this city, the oldest tombs in Egypt were part of Saqqara, the necropolis for Memphis. In Abydos so far, teams have unearthed 15 huge cemetery buildings, the size of which suggests the people buried here were of some royal or political importance. Over the course of the next few years, scientists are hoping that this discovery will lead to major revelations regarding the earliest dynastic period in Egypt. So far, we know that one of the first pharaohs to rule Upper and Lower Egypt is buried here as well as all others from Egypt’s First Dynasty. 1. Troy found in Turkey Troy is arguably one of the most famous cities in the world, period. Most of us know it from the famous Trojan War, which according to legend was begun when Helen, Queen of Sparta, was abducted by Paris and brought to Troy (of course, other accounts say she eloped to Troy with Paris, but we’ll never know for certain). The city was under siege for 10 years before it was overtaken by King Agamemnon (A-ga-mem-non) using the Trojan Horse--but all of this is according mostly to the Iliad, written by Homer. In reality, it’s difficult to even say whether or not the war took place but the city located in Turkey, on the coast of the Aegean sea, is most certainly believed to be the ancient city of Troy. The excavation site is incredible, revealing not one Troy, but many. Over the years that Troy was inhabited--nearly 2,000 years--it was destroyed and rebuilt at least nine times. Each iteration of the city was built directly on top of the old city, creating a mound of artifacts and ruins. The city of Homer’s epic poem would have actually been the sixth version of Troy, built during the 18th century BCE. The ruins of Troy remain an issue of scholarly and archaeological debate, while people attempt to sort fact from fiction.
