The MRAD rifle's user-changeable barrel system is just one example of this hardworking gun's modularity. The precision-grade barrel can be removed by simply unscrewing two bolts using a standard Torx wrench. This unique design paves the way for future caliber interchangeability and serviceability. Maintenance and logistical burdens are reduced by allowing barrel replacement at the user level.
The MRAD also boasts Barrett's new trigger module, which is easily accessed for maintenance, adjustment and replacement. This match-grade trigger is drop-fire-proof and combat-ready. Both the ambidextrous thumb-operated safety and magazine release can be used intuitively while retaining a firing grip and cheek weld.
Integrated into the MRAD rifle's 7000 series aluminum upper receiver is an M1913 rail with 30 MOA taper. At 21.75 inches, the rail offers plenty of space for mounting additional optical accessories. The configurable side and bottom rails can also hold a number of accessories and are easily repositioned.
The stock is where the MRAD rifle's adaptability truly shines. It's foldable for enhanced portability yet locks in as solid as a fixed-stock rifle, creating a riding platform for consistent firing. When folded, the stock latches around the bolt for added security during transport. Because the stock folds to the bolt handle side of the action, the rifle is the same width overall, folded or extended.
Made of a temperature-resistant polymer, the adjustable cheek piece also offers a consistent rifle-to-user contact point and can be adjusted from either side. The rifle's length of pull can be set to five different positions with the push of a single button.
From its quick-detach sling mounts to the Barrett Multi-Role Brown color of the rifle that blends into any environment—every detail of the MRAD has been carefully designed to create one thing: a high-performance rifle you can truly make your own.

Range estimation using milliradians, or mils can be very useful when your target is partially obscured, moving, or doesn't come in exact sizes. But if you have a close by stationary target of known dimension, you can use mils in a reticle in a riflescope, binoculars or spotting scope to estimate the range.
Mils measure angular width. A radian is an angle whose width of arc equals the length of its radius. Since a circle's circumference is 2Pi times the length of its radius, there are 6.283 radians in a full circle. A mil is 1/1,000th of a radian, which adds up to 6,283 mils in a full circle. This subtends to a 1 yard arc at a 1,000 yard radius. Also a 1 meter arc at 1,000 meters.
There are several formulas that can be used:
(target size in inches X 27.778) divided by target size in mils = Range in yards.
(target size in yards X 1,000) divided by target size in mils = Range in yards.
(target size in meters X 1,000) divided by target size in mils = Range in meters.
(target size in centimeters X 10) divided by target size in mils = Range in meters.
Example: A 6 foot (2 yards) tall man is in your scope and is 4 mils tall in your reticle
2x1,000 (2,000)
2,000 divided by 4 mils = 500 yards away

This is the first time I tried to put a group together with my new Barrett MRAD 338 Lapua. Many more videos to come documenting my pursuit of achieving precision level shooting.

Barrett MRAD
The Barrett MRAD or Multi-Role Adaptive Design is a bolt-action sniper rifle that was designed by Barrett to meet the requirements of the SOCOM PSR. The MRAD is based on the Barrett 98B with a number of modifications and improvements. The Barrett MRAD was named the 2012 Rifle of the Year by the NRA.
Design
After the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) announced their desire for a new Precision Sniper Rifle in December 2009, Barrett created the MRAD in accordance with the specifications laid out by SOCOM. Building off of the successful Barrett 98B, the MRAD features multiple improvements such as a folding stock which allows the rifle to be transported more easily. When folded, the stock latches around the bolt handle which increases the security of transporting the rifle. Additional features of the MRAD include a single-button length-of-pull adjustment, a bolt guide which acts as a dust cover to reduce debris entering the action, a trigger module which can be removed without tools making cleaning easier, an ambidextrous magazine release, and the ability to accept standard M4/M16 pistol grips.

The .338 Lapua Magnum (8.6×70mm or 8.58×70mm) is a rimless, bottlenecked, centerfire cartridge developed for military long-range sniper rifles. The Afghanistan War and Iraq War made it a combat-proven round with ready and substantial ammunition availability. The .338 Lapua is a dual-purpose, anti-personnel and anti-materiel round, but its anti-materiel potential is limited, due to the bullet's lower kinetic energy compared with that of the .50 BMG's 35.64-to-55.08-gram (550.0 to 850.0 gr) projectiles. The loaded cartridge is 14.93 mm (0.588 in) in diameter (rim) and 93.5 mm (3.68 in) long. It can penetrate better-than-standard military body armour at ranges up to 1,000 metres (1,090 yd) and has a maximum effective range of about 1,750 metres (1,910 yd). Muzzle velocity is dependent on load and powder temperature, and varies from 880 to 915 m/s (2,890 to 3,000 ft/s) for commercial loads with 16.2-gram (250 gr) bullets, which results in about 6,525 J (4,813 ft·lbf) of muzzle energy.

But if you have a close by stationary target of known dimension, you can use mils in a reticle in a riflescope, binoculars or spotting scope to estimate the range. Mils measure angular width. A radian is an angle whose width of arc equals the length of its radius. Since a circle's circumference is 2Pi times the length of its radius, there are 6.283 radians in a full circle. A mil is 1/1,000th of a radian, which adds up to 6,283 mils in a full circle. This subtends to a 1 yard arc at a 1,000 yard radius. Also a 1 meter arc at 1,000 meters. The MRAD also boasts Barrett's new trigger module, which is easily accessed for maintenance, adjustment and replacement. This match-grade trigger is drop-fire-proof and combat-ready. Both the ambidextrous thumb-operated safety and magazine release can be used intuitively while retaining a firing grip and cheek weld.
Integrated into the MRAD rifle's 7000 series aluminum upper receiver is an M1913 rail with 30 MOA taper. At 21.75 inches, the rail offers plenty of space for mounting additional optical accessories. The configurable side and bottom rails can also hold a number of accessories and are easily repositioned.
The stock is where the MRAD rifle's adaptability truly shines. It's foldable for enhanced portability yet locks in as solid as a fixed-stock rifle, creating a riding platform for consistent firing. When folded, the stock latches around the bolt for added security during transport. Because the stock folds to the bolt handle side of the action, the rifle is the same width overall, folded or extended.
Made of a temperature-resistant polymer, the adjustable cheek piece also offers a consistent rifle-to-user contact point and can be adjusted from either side. The rifle's length of pull can be set to five different positions with the push of a single button.
From its quick-detach sling mounts to the Barrett Multi-Role Brown color of the rifle that blends into any environment—every detail of the MRAD has been carefully designed to create one thing: a high-performance rifle you can truly make your own.

The MRAD rifle's user-changeable barrel system is just one example of this hardworking gun's modularity. Available in .338 Lapua Magnum, .300 Winchester Magnum and .308 Winchester, the precision grade barrel can be removed by simply loosening two bolts using a standard Torx wrench. Besides reducing maintenance and logistical burdens, this unique design allows for user level caliber interchangeability and serviceability with the MRAD rifle's barrel kits.
The MRAD also boasts Barrett's fully adjustable match-grade trigger module, which is user accessible. The thumb-operated safety can be configured for left or right hand operation. The ambidextrous magazine release can be used intuitively while retaining a firing grip and cheek weld.
Integrated into the MRAD rifle's 7000 series aluminum upper receiver is a 21.75 inch M1913 rail with 30 MOA taper. The forward receiver is drilled and tapped for accessory rails to be mounted at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions.
The MRAD stock is foldable for enhanced portability yet locks in as solid as a fixed-stock rifle, creating a rigid platform for consistent firing. During transport the stock folds and locks onto the bolt handle maintaining the same rifle width whether folded or extended.
Made of a temperature-resistant polymer, the adjustable cheek piece also offers a consistent rifle-to-user contact point. The rifle's length of pull can be set to five different positions with the push of a single button.
