Tokyo Tower is now a little outshined by Tokyo Skytree, which has an observation deck 1.5 times higher than Tokyo Tower is tall (450m/1476ft). HOWEVER, Tokyo Tower only costs $15 to get to the top, whereas Tokyo Skytree costs a minimum of $30!!
For no money, you can go to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku for free (http://goo.gl/lRak2r). It has an observatory at a full 202m/662ft, versus Tokyo Tower's highest observatory at 250m/820ft. The twin tower govt building's observatory is much larger, and there are two of them (one in each tower). Tokyo Tower - 東京タワー - 4K Ultra HD : Too often compared to the Eiffel Tower of Paris, Tokyo Tower is in fact a big, fancy communication (TV and Radio) tower built in 1958. Indeed, as soon as the NHK started to broadcast TV in 1953, a large broadcasting tower needed to be built in order to cover the entire region.
Tokyo Tower is thinner than the Eiffel Tower, but 13 meters taller with a total height of 333m. For over half a century, it has been the pinnacle of Tokyo and the only best place to enjoy a unique view of the region thanks to its two observation decks (at 150m and 250m). Unfortunately for this beautiful piece of engineering, that withstood many major earthquakes, Tokyo Tower was deemed many years ago as unsuitable for covering the need for TV stations to broadcast digital signals. Also it has to share the hall of fame of Tokyo’s tallest structure with another Tower : Tokyo Skytree with a stunning height of 634m.

Tokyo Tower
Tokyo Tower (東京タワー, Tōkyō tawā) is a communications and observation tower located in the Shiba-koen district of Minato, Tokyo, Japan. At 332.9 metres (1,092 ft), it is the second-tallest structure in Japan. The structure is an Eiffel Tower-inspired lattice tower that is painted white and international orange to comply with air safety regulations.
Built in 1958, the tower's main sources of revenue are tourism and antenna leasing. Over 150 million people have visited the tower since its opening. FootTown, a four-story building located directly under the tower, houses museums, restaurants and shops. Departing from there, guests can visit two observation decks. The two-story Main Observatory is located at 150 metres (490 ft), while the smaller Special Observatory reaches a height of 249.6 metres (819 ft).
The tower acts as a support structure for an antenna. Originally intended for television broadcasting, radio antennas were installed in 1961, but the tower is now used to broadcast signals for Japanese media outlets such as NHK, TBS and Fuji TV. Japan's planned digital television transition by July 2011 was problematic, however; Tokyo Tower's height, 332.9 m (1,092 ft) was not high enough to adequately support complete terrestrial digital broadcasting to the area. A taller digital broadcasting tower, known as Tokyo Skytree, was completed on February 29, 2012.

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. Tower
A tower is a tall structure, taller than it is wide, often by a significant margin. Towers are distinguished from masts by their lack of guy-wires and are therefore, along with tall buildings, self-supporting structures.
Towers are specifically distinguished from "buildings" in that they are not built to be habitable but to serve other functions. The principal function is the use of their height to enable various functions to be achieved including: visibility of other features attached to the tower such clock towers; as part of a larger structure or device to increase the visibility of the surroundings as in a fortified building such as a castle; or as a structural feature as an integral part of a bridge.
Towers can be stand alone structures or be supported by adjacent buildings or can be a feature on top of a large structure or building.
History
Towers have been used by mankind since prehistoric times. The oldest known may be the circular stone tower in walls of Neolithic Jericho (8000 BC). Some of the earliest towers were ziggurats, which existed in Sumerian architecture since the 4th millennium BC. The most famous ziggurats include the Sumerian Ziggurat of Ur, built the 3rd millennium BC, and the Etemenanki, one of the most famous examples of Babylonian architecture. The latter was built in Babylon during the 2nd millennium BC and was considered the tallest tower of the ancient world.

Tokyo Skytree
Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー, Tōkyō Sukaitsurī) is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634.0 metres (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa (829.8 m/2,722 ft).
The tower is the primary television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region; the older Tokyo Tower no longer gives complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage because it is surrounded by high-rise buildings. Skytree was completed on 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012. The tower is the centrepiece of a large commercial development funded by Tobu Railway and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station, the complex is 7 km (4.3 mi) north-east of Tokyo Station.

We visited Tokyo in March and I shot a lot of random footage. I compiled it into a typical travel montage, but then had some fun experimenting with a voiceover, and turned it into this weird little travel programme. I thought it'd be an interesting way to make, what is essentially a personal travel diary, into something more widely accessible. I love Tokyo, and hopefully this video captures that and inspires you to take a trip to this wonderful place! Shot on Canon 5DMKIII (via Borrowlenses) and GoPro Lenses: 50mm 1.2, 24-105mm 4.0, 24mm TS 3.5. Filmed over 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan. I first visited Tokyo nearly 10 years ago and was swept away by its futuristic society steeped in ancient culture. Scenes include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Roppongi, Asakusa, Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines. As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to attend the "dezuiri" sumo ring-entering ceremony, which you'll see in the opening shot. We also captured "yumi hajime" (first archery practice of the year) as well as "hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the year) at Asakusa. Other shots include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi Hills, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Tsukiji fish market, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines. Tokyo: The Peculiar Traveler
We visited Tokyo in March and I shot a lot of random footage. I compiled it into a typical travel montage, but then had some fun experimenting with a voiceover, and turned it into this weird little travel programme. I thought it'd be an interesting way to make, what is essentially a personal travel diary, into something more widely accessible. I love Tokyo, and hopefully this video captures that and inspires you to take a trip to this wonderful place! Filmed over 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan. I first visited Tokyo nearly 10 years ago and was swept away by its futuristic society steeped in ancient culture. Scenes include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Roppongi, Asakusa, Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines. As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to attend the "dezuiri" sumo ring-entering ceremony, which you'll see in the opening shot. We also captured "yumi hajime" (first archery practice of the year) as well as "hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the year) at Asakusa. Tokyo Tower is now a little outshined by Tokyo Skytree, which has an observation deck 1.5 times higher than Tokyo Tower is tall (450m/1476ft). HOWEVER, Tokyo Tower only costs $15 to get to the top, whereas Tokyo Skytree costs a minimum of $30!!
For no money, you can go to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku for free (http://goo.gl/lRak2r). It has an observatory at a full 202m/662ft, versus Tokyo Tower's highest observatory at 250m/820ft. The twin tower govt building's observatory is much larger, and there are two of them (one in each tower). A continuation of my auto elastic explorations. This project draws for Japan's rich car culture and features the Honda NSX, Datsun 240Z, Datsun Skyline GTR and the Toyota AE86. The Locale is inspired by Tokyo and Kisho Kurokawa's Nakagin capsule tower.

We visited Tokyo in March and I shot a lot of random footage. I compiled it into a typical travel montage, but then had some fun experimenting with a voiceover, and turned it into this weird little travel programme. I thought it'd be an interesting way to make, what is essentially a personal travel diary, into something more widely accessible. I love Tokyo, and hopefully this video captures that and inspires you to take a trip to this wonderful place!

Filmed over 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan. I first visited Tokyo nearly 10 years ago and was swept away by its futuristic society steeped in ancient culture. Scenes include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Roppongi, Asakusa, Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines.
As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to attend the "dezuiri" sumo ring-entering ceremony, which you'll see in the opening shot. We also captured "yumi hajime" (first archery practice of the year) as well as "hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the year) at Asakusa.
Other shots include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi Hills, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Tsukiji fish market, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines.

I shot this on my DJI Osmo with a few DJI Phantom 3 Pro quadcopter shots in there as well.
The Osmo is a little camera like a GoPro but it comes on a handle with a built in gimbal stabilizer and better image quality. It's a tidy package to travel as light as possible. The Phantom is a bit bulky for international travel so this is the tiny one I pack for trips these days: http://amzn.to/2pnTeGf
When I need to shoot with "pro" gear I use this bad boy http://amzn.to/2nSosYV with this crane http://amzn.to/2okUbNR but the Osmo saves my back and arms when I want to travel light and keep things simple.

''First nights in Tokyo'' was a trip I made in Japan during winter 2012. I had the chance to get unique shots of Shibuya covered in snow and experience Tokyo's exceptional nightlife for the first time.
The video covers a little of every popular places in Tokyo including a very nice bar called the Quest in roppongi. You will see timelapses seen from the mono rail starting in Odaiba ending in Shiodome, the Tokyo tower and Roppongi streets, Omotesando and Harajuku fashion shopping district with the prada building, Asaskusa's incredible temples and much more. Enjoy the trip as much as I did!

Aerial Arterial presents Tokyo from above. Its sprawling nocturnal cityscapes crisscrossed by thruways. It begins with shots atop the world's tallest tower—the ...
Aerial Arterial presents Tokyo from above. Its sprawling nocturnal cityscapes crisscrossed by thruways. It begins with shots atop the world's tallest tower—the Tokyo Skytree—with the expanses of the urban grid illuminated by headlights below. We end closer to the concrete with dizzying loops traced by traffic.
In between these poles, the massive fiery-hued highways pulse through the wards of Minato and Shinjuku, like veins pumping blood. The towering skyscrapers watch over all, unmoved—soaring sentinels of steel and glass. Not a soul is seen. Only machines.
The music is minimal. The images need space to breathe. Tender Japanese flavored chords are accompanied by street beeps, night noises and satellite hums. After all, in the metropolis, the crickets are replaced by singing machinery.
This is an ode to edifices of the great eastern capital. To its atmosphere and infrastructure. A static lullaby for a city on stilts.

I shot this film during two trips to Tokyo that took place in May and June of both 2014 and 2015. Editing began in earnest in November of 2015 along with the composition of the music. I recorded the solo piano part in April at Sound Pure studios in Durham, NC, with the help of recording engineer, Artem Smirnov.
The timelapses were shot in raw (with a 5D Mark III and a Sony A7s) developed in Lightroom, and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. I composed the music at the piano with paper and pencil, input it into Finale 2014, recorded the music into Pro Tools in two separate recording sessions, added material with Ableton and Max MSP, and completed the final edits in Adobe Audition and Premiere.

In between these poles, the massive fiery-hued highways pulse through the wards of Minato and Shinjuku, like veins pumping blood. The towering skyscrapers watch over all, unmoved—soaring sentinels of steel and glass. Not a soul is seen. Only machines.
The music is minimal. The images need space to breathe. Tender Japanese flavored chords are accompanied by street beeps, night noises and satellite hums. After all, in the metropolis, the crickets are replaced by singing machinery.
This is an ode to edifices of the great eastern capital. To its atmosphere and infrastructure. A static lullaby for a city on stilts.

I shot this film during two trips to Tokyo that took place in May and June of both 2014 and 2015. Editing began in earnest in November of 2015 along with the composition of the music. I recorded the solo piano part in April at Sound Pure studios in Durham, NC, with the help of recording engineer, Artem Smirnov.
The timelapses were shot in raw (with a 5D Mark III and a Sony A7s) developed in Lightroom, and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. I composed the music at the piano with paper and pencil, input it into Finale 2014, recorded the music into Pro Tools in two separate recording sessions, added material with Ableton and Max MSP, and completed the final edits in Adobe Audition and Premiere.

Tokyo Tower is located in Minato, Tokyo. Inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Tokyo Tower was built in 1958 to serve as a communications tower. The tower stands at 333 meters tall, which is about eleven hundred feet and is the second tallest structure in Tokyo (after the Tokyo Skytree).
Since it’s opening in 1958, over 150 million people have visited this landmark. Tourism, in fact, is it’s main sourcees of revenue. As with nearly every tower in Japan, Tokyo Tower is painted with the same orange and white color scheme — this to comply with aviation safety regulations. Tokyo Tower is re-painted every five years and can take up to a full year to complete.
There are two observations decks. The main deck, which is the lowest, is at 150 meters from the base. This deck has two floors or levels, each offering 360-degree views of Tokyo. You’ll come out on the second, or top floor when you arrive and step off the elevator.
There’s a gift shop here, and a tour guide robot named, Tawabo, who provides information about the tower in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. The Tower also has its own shrine.
The lower level has a cafe, and you can take a selfie on the glass see-through floor. For an extra fee, you can ride to the upper, secondary deck. This one is about 250 meters up.
So how do you get there:
If you take the city subway, there are three stations that are within about 5 or 10 minutes walking distance. The Kamiyacho station, the Onarimon Station, the Akabanebashi Station, A little further out is the Hamamatsucho Station. Now, this one is on the JR Train.

The next direct flight from O'Hare to Schiphol (Amsterdam) was a full 24 hours later, so we decided to make the best of it by exploring the cultural splendors of Chicago. In the morning, we took the 'L' downtown to the Chicago Art Institute. Sooo much famous stuff there. On our way back, we stopped by Cloud Gate ("the bean!") at Millennium Park.
7/9 - 7/10: Amsterdam
By the time we got to Amsterdam, we had been traveling on and off for about 40 hours. We were exhausted, but forced ourselves to stay awake in order to avoid jet lag. We accidentally ordered a really fancy lunch at the hotel, ate it, and then set off for the Van Gogh Museum. After I took a quick power nap (my mom claims she abstained), we met up with our tour guide and the rest of our group for dinner and a walking tour of the Red Light District. No pictures of the last part though, sorry.
7/10: Amsterdam --> Brussels
Our time in Brussels was pretty much just a lunchtime pitstop. Bogdan, our tour guide made sure we hit up the Atomium (statue of giant silver balls) and the Manneken Pis aka "Little Man Pee" aka little peepee man. The rest of the time we meandered and marveled at the beautiful architecture.
7/10 - 7/11: Bruges
Bruges is super old, super beautiful and super small. It's a canal city with horse-drawn carriages and a lake literally called "Love" that is home to a bunch of swans. We spent a night here before heading to Paris. But before taking off, we visited an old church that holds the only statue by Michelangelo that ever left Italy during his lifetime. It's called the "Madonna of Bruges," and you can see it at 1:35-1:36.
7/11 - 7/17: Paris
July is a great time to visit Paris if you want to be surrounded by people that aren't from there. Our tour with Gate1 ended here after three days, but my mom and I stayed three more on our own. Here's a loose outline of where we went and what we did:
⁃ Day 1: Visit Galleries at Lafayette (gigantic, gorgeous mall filled with high-end stores). Dinner with tour group, night bus tour (Arc du Triomphe, Tuileries, Champs Elysees)
⁃ Day 2: By bus - Champs Elysees, Eiffel Tower from afar, Latin Quarter, Napoleon's tomb (I think?), Versailles, boat cruise on La Seine, Eiffel Tower summit. Exhausting day, but well worth it!
⁃ Day 3: Louvre, Notre Dame.
⁃ Day 4: La Basilique du Sacre Coeur, Montmartre. This was also France's National Day aka Le Quatorze Juillet aka Bastille Day. We watched parades and fireworks on TV because I was too scared and tired to go outside.
⁃ Day 5: Le Marais, Tuileries, L'Orangerie, L'as Fallafel, Palais de Tokyo.
⁃ Day 6: Musee D'Orsay, Paris MoMA, rooftop of Galleries at Lafayette.
7/17 - 7/18: CDG --> SFO

Five cities, three countries, twelve days, my mom, and me. All mashed together because I know no one is going to click through an entire photo album of this stuff. Blink and you may miss something, but that's kind of what it was like being there too. It was a very efficient trip.
7/7: SFO --> ORD
Our original itinerary did not include Chicago. There was a crash at SFO the day before we left, so our flight was delayed at origin and we missed our connection from ORD.

They were both beautiful in their own ways. :D Tokyo Tower is now a little outshined by Tokyo Skytree, which has an observation deck 1.5 times higher than Tokyo Tower is tall (450m/1476ft). HOWEVER, Tokyo Tower only costs $15 to get to the top, whereas Tokyo Skytree costs a minimum of $30!! For no money, you can go to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku for free (http://goo.gl/lRak2r). It has an observatory at a full 202m/662ft, versus Tokyo Tower's highest observatory at 250m/820ft. The twin tower govt building's observatory is much larger, and there are two of them (one in each tower). Tokyo Tower - 東京タワー - 4K Ultra HD : Too often compared to the Eiffel Tower of Paris, Tokyo Tower is in fact a big, fancy communication (TV and Radio) tower built in 1958. Indeed, as soon as the NHK started to broadcast TV in 1953, a large broadcasting tower needed to be built in order to cover the entire region. Tokyo Tower is thinner than the Eiffel Tower, but 13 meters taller with a total height of 333m. For over half a century, it has been the pinnacle of Tokyo and the only best place to enjoy a unique view of the region thanks to its two observation decks (at 150m and 250m). Tokyo: The Peculiar Traveler
We visited Tokyo in March and I shot a lot of random footage. I compiled it into a typical travel montage, but then had some fun experimenting with a voiceover, and turned it into this weird little travel programme. I thought it'd be an interesting way to make, what is essentially a personal travel diary, into something more widely accessible. I love Tokyo, and hopefully this video captures that and inspires you to take a trip to this wonderful place! Tokyo "Echoes"
Filmed over 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan. I first visited Tokyo nearly 10 years ago and was swept away by its futuristic society steeped in ancient culture. Scenes include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Roppongi, Asakusa, Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines. As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to attend the "dezuiri" sumo ring-entering ceremony, which you'll see in the opening shot. I had the chance to get unique shots of Shibuya covered in snow and experience Tokyo's exceptional nightlife for the first time. The video covers a little of every popular places in Tokyo including a very nice bar called the Quest in roppongi. Tokyo Tower - 東京タワー - 4K Ultra HD : Too often compared to the Eiffel Tower of Paris, Tokyo Tower is in fact a big, fancy communication (TV and Radio) tower built in 1958. Indeed, as soon as the NHK started to broadcast TV in 1953, a large broadcasting tower needed to be built in order to cover the entire region.
Tokyo Tower is thinner than the Eiffel Tower, but 13 meters taller with a total height of 333m. For over half a century, it has been the pinnacle of Tokyo and the only best place to enjoy a unique view of the region thanks to its two observation decks (at 150m and 250m). Unfortunately for this beautiful piece of engineering, that withstood many major earthquakes, Tokyo Tower was deemed many years ago as unsuitable for covering the need for TV stations to broadcast digital signals. Also it has to share the hall of fame of Tokyo’s tallest structure with another Tower : Tokyo Skytree with a stunning height of 634m.

We visited Tokyo in March and I shot a lot of random footage. I compiled it into a typical travel montage, but then had some fun experimenting with a voiceover, and turned it into this weird little travel programme. I thought it'd be an interesting way to make, what is essentially a personal travel diary, into something more widely accessible. I love Tokyo, and hopefully this video captures that and inspires you to take a trip to this wonderful place!
Shot on Canon 5DMKIII (via Borrowlenses) and GoPro
Lenses: 50mm 1.2, 24-105mm 4.0, 24mm TS 3.5.

Filmed over 2 weeks in Tokyo, Japan. I first visited Tokyo nearly 10 years ago and was swept away by its futuristic society steeped in ancient culture. Scenes include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Roppongi, Asakusa, Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines.
As we visited during the New Year, we were lucky to attend the "dezuiri" sumo ring-entering ceremony, which you'll see in the opening shot. We also captured "yumi hajime" (first archery practice of the year) as well as "hatsumode" (first shrine visit of the year) at Asakusa.
Other shots include Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi Hills, Meiji Shrine, Rainbow Bridge at Odaiba, Tokyo Tower, Tsukiji fish market, Yokohama, Mount Fuji, Lake Kawaguchi, and Nikko world-heritage shrines.

I shot this on my DJI Osmo with a few DJI Phantom 3 Pro quadcopter shots in there as well.
The Osmo is a little camera like a GoPro but it comes on a handle with a built in gimbal stabilizer and better image quality. It's a tidy package to travel as light as possible. The Phantom is a bit bulky for international travel so this is the tiny one I pack for trips these days: http://amzn.to/2pnTeGf
When I need to shoot with "pro" gear I use this bad boy http://amzn.to/2nSosYV with this crane http://amzn.to/2okUbNR but the Osmo saves my back and arms when I want to travel light and keep things simple.

I shot this on my DJI Osmo with a few DJI Phantom 3 Pro quadcopter shots in there as well.
The Osmo is a little camera like a GoPro but it comes on a handle with a built in gimbal stabilizer and better image quality. It's a tidy package to travel as light as possible. The Phantom is a bit bulky for international travel so this is the tiny one I pack for trips these days: http://amzn.to/2pnTeGf
When I need to shoot with "pro" gear I use this bad boy http://amzn.to/2nSosYV with this crane http://amzn.to/2okUbNR but the Osmo saves my back and arms when I want to travel light and keep things simple.

''First nights in Tokyo'' was a trip I made in Japan during winter 2012. I had the chance to get unique shots of Shibuya covered in snow and experience Tokyo's exceptional nightlife for the first time.
The video covers a little of every popular places in Tokyo including a very nice bar called the Quest in roppongi. You will see timelapses seen from the mono rail starting in Odaiba ending in Shiodome, the Tokyo tower and Roppongi streets, Omotesando and Harajuku fashion shopping district with the prada building, Asaskusa's incredible temples and much more. Enjoy the trip as much as I did!

Aerial Arterial presents Tokyo from above. Its sprawling nocturnal cityscapes crisscrossed by thruways. It begins with shots atop the world's tallest tower—the Tokyo Skytree—with the expanses of the urban grid illuminated by headlights below. We end closer to the concrete with dizzying loops traced by traffic.
In between these poles, the massive fiery-hued highways pulse through the wards of Minato and Shinjuku, like veins pumping blood. The towering skyscrapers watch over all, unmoved—soaring sentinels of steel and glass. Not a soul is seen. Only machines.
The music is minimal. The images need space to breathe. Tender Japanese flavored chords are accompanied by street beeps, night noises and satellite hums. After all, in the metropolis, the crickets are replaced by singing machinery.
This is an ode to edifices of the great eastern capital. To its atmosphere and infrastructure. A static lullaby for a city on stilts.

I shot this film during two trips to Tokyo that took place in May and June of both 2014 and 2015. Editing began in earnest in November of 2015 along with the composition of the music. I recorded the solo piano part in April at Sound Pure studios in Durham, NC, with the help of recording engineer, Artem Smirnov.
The timelapses were shot in raw (with a 5D Mark III and a Sony A7s) developed in Lightroom, and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. I composed the music at the piano with paper and pencil, input it into Finale 2014, recorded the music into Pro Tools in two separate recording sessions, added material with Ableton and Max MSP, and completed the final edits in Adobe Audition and Premiere.
