Tokyo Tower (東京タワー, Tōkyō tawā) is a communications and observation tower located in the Shiba-koen district of Minato, Tokyo, Japan. At 332.9 metres (1,092 ft), it is the second-tallest structure in Japan. The structure is an Eiffel Tower-inspired lattice tower that is painted white and international orange to comply with air safety regulations.
Built in 1958, the tower's main sources of revenue are tourism and antenna leasing. Over 150 million people have visited the tower since its opening. FootTown, a four-story building located directly under the tower, houses museums, restaurants and shops. Departing from there, guests can visit two observation decks. The two-story Main Observatory is located at 150 metres (490 ft), while the smaller Special Observatory reaches a height of 249.6 metres (819 ft).
The tower acts as a support structure for an antenna. Originally intended for television broadcasting, radio antennas were installed in 1961, but the tower is now used to broadcast signals for Japanese media outlets such as NHK, TBS and Fuji TV. Japan's planned digital television transition by July 2011 was problematic, however; Tokyo Tower's height, 332.9 m (1,092 ft) was not high enough to adequately support complete terrestrial digital broadcasting to the area. A taller digital broadcasting tower, known as Tokyo Skytree, was completed on February 29, 2012.
Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō, "Eastern Capital") (Japanese: [toːkjoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/), officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan, and is both the capital and largest city of Japan. The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Formerly known as Edo, it has been the de facto seat of government since 1603 when Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu made the city his headquarters. It officially became the capital after Emperor Meiji moved his seat to the city from the old capital of Kyoto in 1868; at that time Edo was renamed Tokyo. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi).
A tower is a tall structure, taller than it is wide, often by a significant margin. Towers are distinguished from masts by their lack of guy-wires and are therefore, along with tall buildings, self-supporting structures.
Towers are specifically distinguished from "buildings" in that they are not built to be habitable but to serve other functions. The principal function is the use of their height to enable various functions to be achieved including: visibility of other features attached to the tower such clock towers; as part of a larger structure or device to increase the visibility of the surroundings as in a fortified building such as a castle; or as a structural feature as an integral part of a bridge.
Towers can be stand alone structures or be supported by adjacent buildings or can be a feature on top of a large structure or building.
Towers have been used by mankind since prehistoric times. The oldest known may be the circular stone tower in walls of Neolithic Jericho (8000 BC). Some of the earliest towers were ziggurats, which existed in Sumerian architecture since the 4th millennium BC. The most famous ziggurats include the Sumerian Ziggurat of Ur, built the 3rd millennium BC, and the Etemenanki, one of the most famous examples of Babylonian architecture. The latter was built in Babylon during the 2nd millennium BC and was considered the tallest tower of the ancient world.
Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー, Tōkyō Sukaitsurī) is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634.0 metres (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the second tallest structure in the world after the Burj Khalifa (829.8 m/2,722 ft).
The tower is the primary television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region; the older Tokyo Tower no longer gives complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage because it is surrounded by high-rise buildings. Skytree was completed on 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012. The tower is the centrepiece of a large commercial development funded by Tobu Railway and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station, the complex is 7 km (4.3 mi) north-east of Tokyo Station.
Tokyo Tower during the day with Grace, and Tokyo Tower at night with Melodee! They were both beautiful in their own ways. :D Tokyo Tower is now a little outshined by Tokyo Skytree, which has an observation deck 1.5 times higher than Tokyo Tower is tall (450m/1476ft). HOWEVER, Tokyo Tower only costs $15 to get to the top, whereas Tokyo Skytree costs a minimum of $30!! For no money, you can go to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku for free (http://goo.gl/lRak2r). It has an observatory at a full 202m/662ft, versus Tokyo Tower's highest observatory at 250m/820ft. The twin tower govt building's observatory is much larger, and there are two of them (one in each tower). Elevator Ride to the top of Tokyo Tower and views of Tokyo from the tower. Tokyo Tower, which stands at 1,033 ft is located in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. It's the second tallest man made structure in Japan and, was based on the design of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France
Tokyo Tower - 東京タワー - 4K Ultra HD : Too often compared to the Eiffel Tower of Paris, Tokyo Tower is in fact a big, fancy communication (TV and Radio) tower built in 1958. Indeed, as soon as the NHK started to broadcast TV in 1953, a large broadcasting tower needed to be built in order to cover the entire region. Tokyo Tower is thinner than the Eiffel Tower, but 13 meters taller with a total height of 333m. For over half a century, it has been the pinnacle of Tokyo and the only best place to enjoy a unique view of the region thanks to its two observation decks (at 150m and 250m). Unfortunately for this beautiful piece of engineering, that withstood many major earthquakes, Tokyo Tower was deemed many years ago as unsuitable for covering the need for TV stations to broadcast digital signals....

Tokyo Tower is located in Minato, Tokyo. Inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Tokyo Tower was built in 1958 to serve as a communications tower. The tower stands at 333 meters tall, which is about eleven hundred feet and is the second tallest structure in Tokyo (after the Tokyo Skytree). Since it’s opening in 1958, over 150 million people have visited this landmark. Tourism, in fact, is it’s main sourcees of revenue. As with nearly every tower in Japan, Tokyo Tower is painted with the same orange and white color scheme — this to comply with aviation safety regulations. Tokyo Tower is re-painted every five years and can take up to a full year to complete. There are two observations decks. The main deck, which is the lowest, is at 150 meters from the base. Transcend unto this mind all the knowledge of your dreams
How can it be both inside the same dream?
How can it be How can we be in the same dream?
How much more can we change
These buildings are shifting, this glass is rippling
The water is above us, yet it will not fall
Why is it all out of focus
I thought this was perfect now I see its flaws
Step by step, brick by brick
I will turn this world into what I see fit
I can be anything, I will become everything
Captivated by the sounds of the lost souls
Their voices are ever-haunting
Who are these faces? Why do they stare at me?
Look away, look away
Why is this crumbling at my face
How much more can we change
These buildings are shifting, this glass is rippling
The water is above us, yet it will not fall
Why is it all out of focus
I thought this was perfect now I see its flaws
I open my eyes to the world and everything changes
Now everything's perfect (Now I see its flaws)
