Wieden is the 4th municipal District of Vienna, Austria (German: 4. Bezirk). It is near the centre of Vienna and was established as a district in 1850, but its borders were changed later. Wieden is a small region near the city centre. After World War II, Wieden was part of the Soviet sector of Vienna for 10 years.
The name Wieden was first recorded in 1137, and is thus the oldest Vorstadt (former municipality within the Linienwall) of Vienna. The main street (Wiedner Hauptstraße) is certainly even older. The district was the site of the former royal Summer residence, which was completed under Ferdinand II, and was expanded many times until Maria Theresa sold it to the Jesuits. Today it is the Theresianum, a prestigious private boarding school, while the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna resides in a wing of the building.
In the beginning of 18th century, the development of Wieden as a suburb began. Many palaces and other buildings were built. Two small Vorstädte in the area of the present fourth district were Hungelbrunn and Schamburgergrund.
Wieden+Kennedy (W+K; pronounced WHY-den and KEN-edy; earlier spelled Wieden & Kennedy) is an independently owned American advertising agency best known for its work for Nike. Founded by Dan Wieden and David Kennedy, and headquartered in Portland, Oregon, it is one of the largest independently owned advertising agencies in the world.
Dan Wieden met David Kennedy in 1980, at the William Cain advertising agency while working on the Nike account. They took Nike with them as a client after founding Wieden & Kennedy (later changed to Wieden+Kennedy) on April 1, 1982, and remain the agency of record.
Over the years, the agency has added offices in New York City, London, Amsterdam, Shanghai, Beijing, Tokyo, Delhi and in late 2010, São Paulo. W+K's turbulent relationship with former client Subaru is the basis of Randall Rothenberg's 1995 book Where the Suckers Moon: The Life and Death of an Advertising Campaign.
Wieden+Kennedy has created original content for various brands under the moniker W+K Entertainment since 2001. Its productions include Battlegrounds, an MTV2 series showcasing streetball;Ginga, a documentary about Brazilian football (soccer) players; and Road to Paris, documenting Lance Armstrong's path to his third Tour de France victory in 2001.
Dan Wieden (born 1945) Pronounced "Why-den," is an American advertising executive who co-founded Wieden+Kennedy and coined the Nike tagline "Just Do It."
He attended Ulysses S. Grant High School in Portland, Oregon, where he was on the swim team. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Oregon in Eugene, graduating from its School of Journalism and Communication in 1967. In 1999, he was inducted into the school's Hall of Achievement.
He and David Kennedy were listed as number 22 on the Advertising Age 100 ad people of the 20th century. He was named one of America's 25 most intriguing entrepreneurs by Inc.
Wieden has been Oregon’s Professional of the Year, Oregon’s Entrepreneur of the Year, one of the world’s 50 CyberElite by Time magazine, and one of 32 members of the One Club Creative Hall of Fame.

Portland (/ˈpɔːrtlənd/) is the largest city in the U.S. state of Oregon and the seat of Multnomah County. It is located in the Willamette Valley region of the Pacific Northwest, at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. The city covers 145 square miles (376 km²) and had an estimated population of 619,360 in 2014, making it the 28th most populous city in the United States. Approximately 2,348,247 people live in the Portland metropolitan statistical area (MSA), the 24th most populous MSA in the United States. Its Combined Statistical Area (CSA) ranks 17th with a population of 3,022,178. Roughly 60 percent of Oregon's population resides within the Portland metropolitan area.
Named after the city in Maine, Portland was settled in the 1830s near the end of the Oregon Trail. Its water access provided convenient transportation of goods, and the timber industry was a major force in the city's early economy. At the turn of the 20th century, the city had developed a reputation as one of the most dangerous port cities in the world, a hub for organized crime and racketeering. After the city's economy experienced an industrial boom during World War II, its hard-edged reputation began to dissipate. Beginning in the 1960s, Portland became noted for its growing liberal political values, and the city has earned a reputation as a bastion of counterculture, a view which has proceeded into the 21st century. According to a 2009 Pew Research Center study, Portland ranks as the 8th most popular American city, based on where people want to live.

How a mutual disregard for traditional advertising kickstarted Wieden + Kennedy and Nike’s success. “We were pretty stupid when we began,” says Dan Wieden, co-founder of one of the largest independent ad agencies in the world, Weiden + Kennedy. “Our client [Nike] didn’t know what to do with us either. So between Nike and Wieden + Kennedy we kind of just ignored the rules of advertising such as we’d heard them.” Ignoring these rules meant that Wieden + Kennedy had to invent unusual advertising strategies and offer clients unexpected ideas. Its bold approach enabled the agency to survive on the edge and birthed breakthrough advertising campaigns for brands such as Nike. The agency’s intrepid spirit could be summed up in the tagline it famously coined for Nike. Wieden came up with “Just...
