Exxon Valdez
Oriental Nicety, formerly Exxon Valdez, Exxon Mediterranean, SeaRiver Mediterranean, S/R Mediterranean, Mediterranean, and Dong Fang Ocean, was an oil tanker that gained notoriety after running aground in Prince William Sound spilling hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil in Alaska. On March 24, 1989, while owned by the former Exxon Shipping Company, and captained by Joseph Hazelwood and First Mate James Kunkel bound for Long Beach, California, the vessel ran aground on the Bligh Reef resulting in the second largest oil spill in United States history. The size of the spill is estimated to have been 40,900 to 120,000 m3 (10,800,000 to 31,700,000 US gal), or 257,000 to 750,000 barrels. In 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil spill was listed as the 54th largest spill in history.
Carrier
The tanker was 301 meters long, 51 meters wide, 26 meters depth (987 ft x 166 ft x 88 ft), with a deadweight of 214,861 long tons and a full-load displacement of 240,291 long tons. The ship was able to transport up to 235,000 m³ (1.48 million barrels) at a sustained speed of 30 km/h 16.25 knots, powered by a 23.60 MW (31,650 shp) diesel engine. Her hull design was of the single-hull type, constructed by National Steel and Shipbuilding Company in San Diego, California. She was a relatively new tanker at the time of the spill, and was delivered to Exxon on December 16, 1986.

Noise control
Noise control or noise mitigation is a set of strategies to reduce noise pollution or to reduce the impact of that noise, whether outdoors or indoors.
Overview
The main areas of noise mitigation or abatement are: transportation noise control, architectural design, urban planning through zoning codes, and occupational noise control. Roadway noise and aircraft noise are the most pervasive sources of environmental noise. Social activities may generate noise levels that consistently affect the health of populations residing in or occupying areas, both indoor and outdoor, near entertainment venues that feature amplified sounds and music that present significant challenges for effective noise mitigation strategies.
Multiple techniques have been developed to address interior sound levels, many of which are encouraged by local building codes; in the best case of project designs, planners are encouraged to work with design engineers to examine trade-offs of roadway design and architectural design. These techniques include design of exterior walls, party walls, and floor and ceiling assemblies; moreover, there are a host of specialized means for damping reverberation from special-purpose rooms such as auditoria, concert halls, entertainment and social venues, dining areas, audio recording rooms, and meeting rooms.

Back walkover
A back walkover is an acrobatic maneuver in which a person transitions from a standing position to a back bridge and then back to a standing position again, undergoing a complete revolution of the body in the process. Back walkovers are commonly performed in a variety of athletic activities, including acro dance, cheerleading, and rhythmic gymnastics. In artistic gymnastics, back walkovers are performed in floor exercises and on the balance beam.
Technique
The back walkover performer begins in a standing position. The back is increasingly arched and abdominal muscles are stretched until the hands touch the floor and all hands and feet are flat on the floor, thus forming a gymnastic back bridge. While in the bridge position, one leg (the leading leg) is rapidly raised from the floor so as to impart momentum to the lower body. This momentum lifts the trailing leg from the floor so that only the hands are left touching the floor. Both hands remain on the floor while the body revolves backward through a handstand position, until the foot of the leading leg, followed by the foot of the trailing leg, reach the floor. When both feet are on the floor, the performer returns to an erect standing position.

Twenty five years ago the Exxon Valdez tanker carrying 53 million gallons of crude oil struck a reef off the coast of Alaska. Within hours nearly eleven million gallons of thick, toxic oil were discharged into the waters of Prince William Sound, devastating local wildlife along 1,300 miles of shoreline. The images of sea otters, herrings and birds soaked soaked in black oil flashed across the globe as rescue workers painstakingly fought to save them and their habitat. Twenty five years ago the Exxon Valdez tanker carrying 53 million gallons of crude oil struck a reef off the coast of Alaska.
Within hours nearly eleven million gallons of thick, toxic oil were discharged into the waters of Prince William Sound, devastating local wildlife along 1,300 miles of shoreline.
The images of sea otters, herrings and birds soaked soaked in black oil flashed across the globe as rescue workers painstakingly fought to save them and their habitat.
Today the region, its people and its wildlife are still recovering and in some cases, struggling. The spill created a slick that fouled the sea and shoreline, killing unknown quantities of animals and plants.
Bernie Culbertson was preparing to fish cod when the Exxon Valdez ran aground. With oil in the water, fishing came to a standstill.
His livelihood and that of many of other fishermen was badly hit in the years that followed. Pink salmon that sold for 80 cents per pound fell to 8 cents per pound. Mr Consumers turned to farm fish or tuna out of fear of tainted salmon. Culbertson's boat caught 2.5 million lbs of pink salmon one season and still lost money. Not to be defeated he turned to other fisheries, travelling as far as California.
Exxon compensation cheques, minus what fishermen earned on spill work, arrived too late for many.

Twenty five years ago the Exxon Valdez tanker carrying 53 million gallons of crude oil struck a reef off the coast of Alaska.
Within hours nearly eleven million gallons of thick, toxic oil were discharged into the waters of Prince William Sound, devastating local wildlife along 1,300 miles of shoreline.
The images of sea otters, herrings and birds soaked soaked in black oil flashed across the globe as rescue workers painstakingly fought to save them and their habitat.
Today the region, its people and its wildlife are still recovering and in some cases, struggling. The spill created a slick that fouled the sea and shoreline, killing unknown quantities of animals and plants.
Bernie Culbertson was preparing to fish cod when the Exxon Valdez ran aground. With oil in the water, fishing came to a standstill.
His livelihood and that of many of other fishermen was badly hit in the years that followed. Pink salmon that sold for 80 cents per pound fell to 8 cents per pound. Mr Consumers turned to farm fish or tuna out of fear of tainted salmon. Culbertson's boat caught 2.5 million lbs of pink salmon one season and still lost money. Not to be defeated he turned to other fisheries, travelling as far as California.
Exxon compensation cheques, minus what fishermen earned on spill work, arrived too late for many.

Twenty five years ago the Exxon Valdez tanker carrying 53 million gallons of crude oil struck a reef off the coast of Alaska.
Within hours nearly eleven million gallons of thick, toxic oil were discharged into the waters of Prince William Sound, devastating local wildlife along 1,300 miles of shoreline.
The images of sea otters, herrings and birds soaked soaked in black oil flashed across the globe as rescue workers painstakingly fought to save them and their habitat.
Today the region, its people and its wildlife are still recovering and in some cases, struggling. The spill created a slick that fouled the sea and shoreline, killing unknown quantities of animals and plants.
Bernie Culbertson was preparing to fish cod when the Exxon Valdez ran aground. With oil in the water, fishing came to a standstill.
His livelihood and that of many of other fishermen was badly hit in the years that followed. Pink salmon that sold for 80 cents per pound fell to 8 cents per pound. Mr Consumers turned to farm fish or tuna out of fear of tainted salmon. Culbertson's boat caught 2.5 million lbs of pink salmon one season and still lost money. Not to be defeated he turned to other fisheries, travelling as far as California.
Exxon compensation cheques, minus what fishermen earned on spill work, arrived too late for many.
"There's resentment, sure. But you don't live on resentment. You know, the people who put everything on getting taken care of.
"You know, Exxon said they would make us well. Their mouth was moving. If you've been around, you knew they were lying. If you watched the show, you knew they were lying. They were just pouring money, and propaganda and things, so you knew there was a big level of BS [lying] going on. And those that fell for it suffered," says Mr Culbertson

Exxon Valdez
Oriental Nicety, formerly Exxon Valdez, Exxon Mediterranean, SeaRiver Mediterranean, S/R Mediterranean, Mediterranean, and Dong Fang Ocean, was an oil tanker that gained notoriety after running aground in Prince William Sound spilling hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil in Alaska. On March 24, 1989, while owned by the former Exxon Shipping Company, and captained by Joseph Hazelwood and First Mate James Kunkel bound for Long Beach, California, the vessel ran aground on the Bligh Reef resulting in the second largest oil spill in United States history. The size of the spill is estimated to have been 40,900 to 120,000 m3 (10,800,000 to 31,700,000 US gal), or 257,000 to 750,000 barrels. In 1989, the Exxon Valdez oil spill was listed as the 54th largest spill in history.
Carrier
The tanker was 301 meters long, 51 meters wide, 26 meters depth (987 ft x 166 ft x 88 ft), with a deadweight of 214,861 long tons and a full-load displacement of 240,291 long tons. The ship was able to transport up to 235,000 m³ (1.48 million barrels) at a sustained speed of 30 km/h 16.25 knots, powered by a 23.60 MW (31,650 shp) diesel engine. Her hull design was of the single-hull type, constructed by National Steel and Shipbuilding Company in San Diego, California. She was a relatively new tanker at the time of the spill, and was delivered to Exxon on December 16, 1986.
