Bob Thiele (July 27, 1922 – January 30, 1996) was an American record producer who worked on countless classic jazz albums and record labels.
Bob Thiele was born in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, New York on July 27, 1922. He hosted a jazz radio show when he was 14. He also played clarinet and led a band in the New York area. At 17 he founded the Signature Records label and recorded many jazz greats, including Lester Young, Erroll Garner and, in 1943, Coleman Hawkins. Signature folded in 1948 and he joined Decca Records in 1952, running its Coral Records subsidiary. His wife was the singer Teresa Brewer, whom he met and produced while working for Decca Records in the 1950s.
He took over as head of Impulse! Records from 1961-69 after founder Creed Taylor went to run Verve Records. Thiele's best known association while at Impulse! was with John Coltrane, but he also recorded such artists as Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Archie Shepp, and Albert Ayler among others. His most successful hit song was with Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World", which he co-wrote with George David Weiss. According to Thiele's memoir, the recording session for this now-famous song was the scene of a major clash with ABC Records president Larry Newton, who had to be locked out of the studio after getting into a heated argument with Thiele over the song. "What a Wonderful World" was credited to George Douglas or Stanley Clayton. These are pseudonyms Thiele used, made from the names of his uncles, Stanley, Clayton, George, and Douglas.

George David Weiss (April 9, 1921 – August 23, 2010) was an American songwriter and former President of the Songwriters Guild of America.
Weiss was born in a Jewish family, and originally planned a career as a lawyer or accountant, but out of a love for music he was led to attend the Juilliard School of Music, developing his skills in writing and arranging. After leaving school, he became an arranger for such big bands as those of Stan Kenton, Vincent Lopez, and Johnny Richards.
He was a very prolific songwriter during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, with many of his songs attaining high rankings on the charts. Although he worked with many collaborators, the largest proportion of his well-known songs were written with Bennie Benjamin.
Weiss contributed to a number of film scores: Murder, Inc. (1960), Gidget Goes to Rome (1953), Mediterranean Holiday (1964), and Mademoiselle (1966).
Collaborations on three Broadway musicals were among his compositions. Mr. Wonderful was written in 1956 with Jerry Bock and Larry Holofcener. The Broadway production starred Sammy Davis, Jr. First Impressions was based on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It was written in 1959, with Bo Goldman and Glenn Paxton. Maggie Flynn was written in 1968, with Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore. It was set in New York during the American Civil War, and the Broadway production starred Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy. In addition, Weiss and Will Severin composed the family musical, A Tale of Cinderella, which was first presented in December 1994 at the Theater Institute in Troy, New York, and filmed for presentation on PBS.

"What a Wonderful World" [1970 Spoken Introduction Version] along with Oliver Nelson's Orchestra is a song written by Bob Thiele (as George Douglas) and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968. Thiele and Weiss were both prominent in the music world (Thiele as a producer and Weiss as a composer/performer). Armstrong's recording was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. Intended as an antidote for the increasingly racially and politically charged climate of everyday life in the United States, the song also has a hopeful, optimistic tone with regard to the future, with reference to babies being born into the world and having much to look forward to. The song was initially offered to Tony Bennett, who turned it down. Thereafter, it...

What a Wonderful World "What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele and George David Weiss. Note: Had this midi sequence laying about, so tried to do an arrangement around it. Lyrics: I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself what a wonderful world. I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself what a wonderful world. The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do They're really saying I love you. I hear babies crying, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll never know And I think to myself what a wonderful world Yes I think to myself what a wonder...
Maggie Siff - Lullaby for a soldier (Sons of Anarchy) HD "I didn't know what to expect when Maggie came over to the studio," said Bob Thiele, music supervisor and composer for Sons of Anarchy. "She said rather humbly that she 'could sing.' As you can hear for yourself, Maggie has a beautiful, captivating voice. For the actual track, I felt that any instrumental accompaniment should be minimal. Even a small acoustic guitar seemed to distract from emotional tone of her performance. I wanted nothing to interfere with the power of her vocal." Kurt Sutter, who created Sons of Anarchy, was equally pleased with the results. "We wanted a song to convey the pain of a mother losing a son," Sutter told Rolling Stone. "Bob and Dylan created a beautiful lullaby, sung by the beautiful Maggie Siff." S...

Amy Loftus, Bob Neuwirth, and Bob Thiele writing a song
On March 7th, 1963 saxophonist John Coltrane and a fledgeling vocalist named Johnny Hartman went to engineer Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey to record what would become a landmark recording on epic proportions. Both Hartman and Coltrane had a history together playing with the legendary Dizzy Gillespie during the late 1940's. Upon producer Bob Thiele's request for Coltrane to record a record of standards with the vocalist, Hartman was reluctant at first because he felt that he wasn't apt to perform with the saxophonist and felt he wasn't a jazz vocalist. After a performance with Trane at Birdland, the two, along with pianist McCoy Tyner, discussed the songs that they'd record for that session. In route to the studio, Hartman heard a version of Nat "King" Cole's rec...
