Hello everyone.
In today's video I wanted to share a green tip forward reducing your electricity usage.
I have recently switched energy suppliers here in the UK to one that uses 100% renewable energy so while I can keep the lights on all day without fear that I am polluting the world, that's not really the point.
So I was looking around for other things I could do to save money and help the environment. I'm sure like most of you I already switch off the television of the wall, the lights off when I don't need it and have adjusted my thermostat.
Then I remembered I have a stash of these in my house. These are timed switches and as you can see the technology has been around for while. Now the cool thing about these is that in no time at all you can set up when you want your plugs to switch on and switch off. So I'm going to show you too practical uses of these plugs around your home.
Let's start over by my TV.
Like the majority of the people in the country I have broadband Internet and I also use an external hard drive to store my media files and the backing up purposes. However I frequently forget to switch them off at night so I'm going to use a timed plug to do the job for me. Now, before I set this up I just wanna say one thing. When doing this is important to realise when your clock will switch off just so you're not using the Internet for anything important or backing up to your external hard drive as this could create some problems.
Now with this particular plug all I have to do is flick up the hours which I want power to go to my devices, turn the dial to the correct time and plug it in. now I can have Internet and access to my files all day and not have to worry about switching things off when I go to bed.
Speaking of going to bed, that's another area which has troubled me. Most of us now use smartphones and other become more and more ubiquitous they're getting more and more energy efficient with longer battery lives and shorter charge cycles. However, what the most of us do when we go to bed at night? That's right, we just plug them in and let them charge for that 7 to 8 hours overnight. My phone in particular only requires about 1 to 2 hours to charge so this is where I'm going to use another time plug to save more money.
So what I'm going to do is set this timer to 11 o'clock. That's the Time I go to bed and I'm now going to set it to come on the two hours between four and six in the morning. One thing to mention when doing this. First, make sure your phone is on aeroplane mode or silent so if it switches itself off during the night when your plug comes on and it starts to charge it, you may be alerted to all those emails or text messages you may have got during the night.
So I set the time on the plug, I set the time for the power to come on. Now all I need to do is just plug it in and make sure it switched off. That way when I go to bed what I need to do is check that the time is 11 o'clock flip the switch, and then plugged my phone then. Then I can sleep easy knowing that my phone is only getting the two hours of charge time and actually needs rather than training all about power throughout the night.

If you can make yourself a cup of tea just by turning on your faucet, you need to lower your water heater. You’ll help the planet and save money on your heating bills.
Step 1:
Check your water temperature by holding a meat thermometer under the hot water faucet for a few minutes. If it’s over 120 degrees, it’s time to adjust the thermostat.
Step 2:
Before you open up any part of an electric water heater, turn the power off! Water and 220 volts DO NOT MIX! Find your heater’s temperature control and set it to 120 degrees. Most electric heaters have two thermostats behind screw-on plates. Make sure the power’s off, and then set them to the same temperature. Oil heaters have a thermostat on the side, and gas heaters usually have one on the bottom.
Tip
If you have a furnace-fired oil water heater, do not tamper with the temperature. Lowering it would make your furnace less efficient.
Step 3:
If your water heater is warm to the touch, it’s wasting energy. Help it keep that heat inside by having a water heater blanket installed. It will pay for itself by lowering your heating bills as much as 9%.
Step 4:
Install a timer on your water heater so that it shuts off during times when you don’t need hot water, like the middle of the night.
Tip
Timers are not practical on gas heaters, which require a pilot light.
Step 5:
Drain a quart of water from your tank every three months. It will remove sediment that reduces your heater’s efficiency. Follow the instructions for your heater.
Step 6:
Periodically check the water temperature with the thermometer again—thermostats are often inaccurate. Adjust the thermostat and recheck the temperature until the water is really 120 degrees, regardless of what the thermostat says.
Tip
It’s not likely, but if you have a dishwasher without an internal heater, your water heater thermostat should be set to 140 degrees. 140 degree water is too hot for home use. Children, or elderly people without good feeling in their extremities can be badly scalded at 140 degrees. I recommend that this tip be deleted. Master Plumber speaking here. Step 7:
If you’re leaving your home for more than three days, turn the heater setting down to the lowest setting, or off if there’s no danger of the water freezing. Otherwise you’re paying to have hot water at the ready when no one’s around to use it.
Step 8:
If your bills are still higher than they should be, consider replacing your water heater with a more energy-efficient one, like a solar heater, especially if yours is from before 1996. It will save you money in the long run—and it’s tax deductible!

Energy conservation
Energy conservation refers to reducing energy consumption through using less of an energy service. Energy conservation differs from efficient energy use, which refers to using less energy for a constant service. For example, driving less is an example of energy conservation. Driving the same amount with a higher mileage vehicle is an example of energy efficiency. Energy conservation and efficiency are both energy reduction techniques.
Even though energy conservation reduces energy services, it can result in increased environmental quality, national security, personal financial security and higher savings. It is at the top of the sustainable energy hierarchy. It also lowers energy costs by preventing future resource depletion.
Energy tax
Some countries employ energy or carbon taxes to motivate energy users to reduce their consumption. Carbon taxes can allow consumption to shift to nuclear power and other alternatives that carry a different set of environmental side effects and limitations. Meanwhile, taxes on all energy consumption stand to reduce energy use across the board, while reducing a broader array of environmental consequences arising from energy production. The State of California employs a tiered energy tax whereby every consumer receives a baseline energy allowance that carries a low tax. As usage increases above that baseline, the tax is increasing drastically. Such programs aim to protect poorer households while creating a larger tax burden for high energy consumers.

Incandescent light bulb
An incandescent light bulb, incandescent lamp or incandescent light globe is an electric light with a wire filament heated to a high temperature, by passing an electric current through it, until it glows with visible light (incandescence). The hot filament is protected from oxidation with a glass or quartz bulb that is filled with inert gas or evacuated. In a halogen lamp, filament evaporation is prevented by a chemical process that redeposits metal vapor onto the filament, extending its life. Hello everyone.
In today's video I wanted to share a green tip forward reducing your electricity usage.
I have recently switched energy suppliers here in the UK to one that uses 100% renewable energy so while I can keep the lights on all day without fear that I am polluting the world, that's not really the point.
So I was looking around for other things I could do to save money and help the environment. I'm sure like most of you I already switch off the television of the wall, the lights off when I don't need it and have adjusted my thermostat.
Then I remembered I have a stash of these in my house. These are timed switches and as you can see the technology has been around for while. Now the cool thing about these is that in no time at all you can set up when you want your plugs to switch on and switch off. So I'm going to show you too practical uses of these plugs around your home.
Let's start over by my TV.
Like the majority of the people in the country I have broadband Internet and I also use an external hard drive to store my media files and the backing up purposes. However I frequently forget to switch them off at night so I'm going to use a timed plug to do the job for me. Now, before I set this up I just wanna say one thing. When doing this is important to realise when your clock will switch off just so you're not using the Internet for anything important or backing up to your external hard drive as this could create some problems.
Now with this particular plug all I have to do is flick up the hours which I want power to go to my devices, turn the dial to the correct time and plug it in. now I can have Internet and access to my files all day and not have to worry about switching things off when I go to bed.
Speaking of going to bed, that's another area which has troubled me. Most of us now use smartphones and other become more and more ubiquitous they're getting more and more energy efficient with longer battery lives and shorter charge cycles. However, what the most of us do when we go to bed at night? That's right, we just plug them in and let them charge for that 7 to 8 hours overnight. My phone in particular only requires about 1 to 2 hours to charge so this is where I'm going to use another time plug to save more money.
So what I'm going to do is set this timer to 11 o'clock. That's the Time I go to bed and I'm now going to set it to come on the two hours between four and six in the morning. One thing to mention when doing this. First, make sure your phone is on aeroplane mode or silent so if it switches itself off during the night when your plug comes on and it starts to charge it, you may be alerted to all those emails or text messages you may have got during the night.
So I set the time on the plug, I set the time for the power to come on. Now all I need to do is just plug it in and make sure it switched off. That way when I go to bed what I need to do is check that the time is 11 o'clock flip the switch, and then plugged my phone then. Then I can sleep easy knowing that my phone is only getting the two hours of charge time and actually needs rather than training all about power throughout the night.

If you can make yourself a cup of tea just by turning on your faucet, you need to lower your water heater. You’ll help the planet and save money on your heating bills.
Step 1:
Check your water temperature by holding a meat thermometer under the hot water faucet for a few minutes. If it’s over 120 degrees, it’s time to adjust the thermostat.
Step 2:
Before you open up any part of an electric water heater, turn the power off! Water and 220 volts DO NOT MIX! Find your heater’s temperature control and set it to 120 degrees. Most electric heaters have two thermostats behind screw-on plates. Make sure the power’s off, and then set them to the same temperature. Oil heaters have a thermostat on the side, and gas heaters usually have one on the bottom.
Tip
If you have a furnace-fired oil water heater, do not tamper with the temperature. Lowering it would make your furnace less efficient.
Step 3:
If your water heater is warm to the touch, it’s wasting energy. Help it keep that heat inside by having a water heater blanket installed. It will pay for itself by lowering your heating bills as much as 9%.
Step 4:
Install a timer on your water heater so that it shuts off during times when you don’t need hot water, like the middle of the night.
Tip
Timers are not practical on gas heaters, which require a pilot light.
Step 5:
Drain a quart of water from your tank every three months. It will remove sediment that reduces your heater’s efficiency. Follow the instructions for your heater.
Step 6:
Periodically check the water temperature with the thermometer again—thermostats are often inaccurate. Adjust the thermostat and recheck the temperature until the water is really 120 degrees, regardless of what the thermostat says.
Tip
It’s not likely, but if you have a dishwasher without an internal heater, your water heater thermostat should be set to 140 degrees. 140 degree water is too hot for home use. Children, or elderly people without good feeling in their extremities can be badly scalded at 140 degrees. I recommend that this tip be deleted. Master Plumber speaking here. Step 7:
If you’re leaving your home for more than three days, turn the heater setting down to the lowest setting, or off if there’s no danger of the water freezing. Otherwise you’re paying to have hot water at the ready when no one’s around to use it.
Step 8:
If your bills are still higher than they should be, consider replacing your water heater with a more energy-efficient one, like a solar heater, especially if yours is from before 1996. It will save you money in the long run—and it’s tax deductible!

Hello everyone.
In today's video I wanted to share a green tip forward reducing your electricity usage.
I have recently switched energy suppliers here in the UK to one that uses 100% renewable energy so while I can keep the lights on all day without fear that I am polluting the world, that's not really the point.
So I was looking around for other things I could do to save money and help the environment. I'm sure like most of you I already switch off the television of the wall, the lights off when I don't need it and have adjusted my thermostat.
Then I remembered I have a stash of these in my house. These are timed switches and as you can see the technology has been around for while. Now the cool thing about these is that in no time at all you can set up when you want your plugs to switch on and switch off. So I'm going to show you too practical uses of these plugs around your home.
Let's start over by my TV.
Like the majority of the people in the country I have broadband Internet and I also use an external hard drive to store my media files and the backing up purposes. However I frequently forget to switch them off at night so I'm going to use a timed plug to do the job for me. Now, before I set this up I just wanna say one thing. When doing this is important to realise when your clock will switch off just so you're not using the Internet for anything important or backing up to your external hard drive as this could create some problems.
Now with this particular plug all I have to do is flick up the hours which I want power to go to my devices, turn the dial to the correct time and plug it in. now I can have Internet and access to my files all day and not have to worry about switching things off when I go to bed.
Speaking of going to bed, that's another area which has troubled me. Most of us now use smartphones and other become more and more ubiquitous they're getting more and more energy efficient with longer battery lives and shorter charge cycles. However, what the most of us do when we go to bed at night? That's right, we just plug them in and let them charge for that 7 to 8 hours overnight. My phone in particular only requires about 1 to 2 hours to charge so this is where I'm going to use another time plug to save more money.
So what I'm going to do is set this timer to 11 o'clock. That's the Time I go to bed and I'm now going to set it to come on the two hours between four and six in the morning. One thing to mention when doing this. First, make sure your phone is on aeroplane mode or silent so if it switches itself off during the night when your plug comes on and it starts to charge it, you may be alerted to all those emails or text messages you may have got during the night.
So I set the time on the plug, I set the time for the power to come on. Now all I need to do is just plug it in and make sure it switched off. That way when I go to bed what I need to do is check that the time is 11 o'clock flip the switch, and then plugged my phone then. Then I can sleep easy knowing that my phone is only getting the two hours of charge time and actually needs rather than training all about power throughout the night.

If you can make yourself a cup of tea just by turning on your faucet, you need to lower your water heater. You’ll help the planet and save money on your heating bills.
Step 1:
Check your water temperature by holding a meat thermometer under the hot water faucet for a few minutes. If it’s over 120 degrees, it’s time to adjust the thermostat.
Step 2:
Before you open up any part of an electric water heater, turn the power off! Water and 220 volts DO NOT MIX! Find your heater’s temperature control and set it to 120 degrees. Most electric heaters have two thermostats behind screw-on plates. Make sure the power’s off, and then set them to the same temperature. Oil heaters have a thermostat on the side, and gas heaters usually have one on the bottom.
Tip
If you have a furnace-fired oil water heater, do not tamper with the temperature. Lowering it would make your furnace less efficient.
Step 3:
If your water heater is warm to the touch, it’s wasting energy. Help it keep that heat inside by having a water heater blanket installed. It will pay for itself by lowering your heating bills as much as 9%.
Step 4:
Install a timer on your water heater so that it shuts off during times when you don’t need hot water, like the middle of the night.
Tip
Timers are not practical on gas heaters, which require a pilot light.
Step 5:
Drain a quart of water from your tank every three months. It will remove sediment that reduces your heater’s efficiency. Follow the instructions for your heater.
Step 6:
Periodically check the water temperature with the thermometer again—thermostats are often inaccurate. Adjust the thermostat and recheck the temperature until the water is really 120 degrees, regardless of what the thermostat says.
Tip
It’s not likely, but if you have a dishwasher without an internal heater, your water heater thermostat should be set to 140 degrees. 140 degree water is too hot for home use. Children, or elderly people without good feeling in their extremities can be badly scalded at 140 degrees. I recommend that this tip be deleted. Master Plumber speaking here. Step 7:
If you’re leaving your home for more than three days, turn the heater setting down to the lowest setting, or off if there’s no danger of the water freezing. Otherwise you’re paying to have hot water at the ready when no one’s around to use it.
Step 8:
If your bills are still higher than they should be, consider replacing your water heater with a more energy-efficient one, like a solar heater, especially if yours is from before 1996. It will save you money in the long run—and it’s tax deductible!

Bumpy Dog is Tessie Bear's dog, whose bumping and jumping cause trouble for all the toys. Even though some of the toys complain about his leaping, in several stories Bumpy's energy can save the day.
Gobbo and Sly are two crafty gobins who are always hatching evil plots and causing trouble for the residents of Toyland.
Mr Plod is Toyland's sole police officer. Armed with his trusty whistle and his all-purpose problem-solving phrase "HALT! In the name of Plod!", he brings law and order to Toyland, keeps Sly and Gobbo out of the way, and makes the streets safe for all the toys. Although Mr Plod's no-nonsense ways keep Toyland safe, they sometimes make him seem cold or unfeeling, but the Toyland toys always bring out his compassionate side in the end.
