Verizon Fios (formally FiOS) is a bundled Internet access, telephone, and television service that operates over a fiber-optic communications network to over 5 million people in 13 states. Service is offered in some areas of the United States by Verizon Communications and Frontier Communications. Verizon was one of the first major U.S. carriers to offer fiber to the home, and received positive ratings from Consumer Reports among cable television and Internet service providers. Other service providers often use fiber optics in the network backbone and existing copper or coax infrastructure for residential users. Service began in 2005, and networked areas expanded through 2010, although some areas do not have service or cannot receive TV and phone service because of franchise agreements.
In September 2005, Verizon Communications, announced the launch of its Fios television service, which first became available for 9,000 customers in Keller, Texas. Verizon aimed to replace copper wires with optical fibers, which would allow greater speed and quality of communication.
Verizon Communications (pronounced /vəˈraɪzən/ və-RY-zən), is an American broadband and telecommunications company, the largest U.S. wireless communications service provider as of September 2014, and a corporate component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company is based at 1095 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, but is incorporated in Delaware.
What eventually became Verizon was founded as Bell Atlantic, which was one of the seven Baby Bells that were formed after AT&T Corporation was forced to relinquish its control of the Bell System by order of the Justice Department of the United States. Bell Atlantic came into existence in 1984 with a footprint from New Jersey to Virginia, with each area having a separate operating company (consisting of New Jersey Bell, Bell of Pennsylvania, Diamond State Telephone, and C&P Telephone).
As part of the rebranding that the Baby Bells took in the mid-1990s, all of the operating companies assumed the Bell Atlantic name. In 1997, Bell Atlantic expanded into New York and the New England states by merging with fellow Baby Bell NYNEX. In addition, Bell Atlantic moved their headquarters from Philadelphia into the old NYNEX headquarters and rebranded the entire company as Bell Atlantic.
An Internet service provider (ISP) is an organization that provides services for accessing, using, the Internet. Internet service providers may be organized in various forms, such as commercial, community-owned, non-profit, or otherwise privately owned.
Internet services typically provided by ISPs include Internet access, Internet transit, domain name registration, web hosting, Usenet service, and colocation.
The Internet was developed as a network between government research laboratories and participating departments of universities. By the late 1980s, a process was set in place towards public, commercial use of the Internet. The remaining restrictions were removed by 1995, 4 years after the introduction of the World Wide Web.
In 1989, the first ISPs were established in Australia and the United States. In Brookline, Massachusetts, The World became the first commercial ISP in the US. Its first customer was served in November 1989.

I have had slow internet speeds for the past week, I call Verizon support and the support agent tells me she has exhausted her options. I said that's fine, she then proceeds to tell me if a tech comes out to look at my problem and I end up getting the speeds I pay for they'd have to charge me...... WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?
Watch a summarized step-by-step process of an aerial fiber optic installation on my block and also my personal experience with the Internet service. Verizon FiOS has turned 10 years old this year and the same day this occurred, I've finally got this long-awaited Verizon FiOS Internet service! And although it literally took 10 years to get, it was well worth the wait! Note: I'm not a complete expert on this process so don't hold me to all of the steps but I try to explain the best way I can.

The telecom giant's fiber network, connecting local facilities to businesses and homes, is taking years to roll out.
NEW YORK – Verizon today launched Fios Gigabit Connection – the nation’s largest deployment of gigabit Internet connection service. Fios Gigabit Connection provides downloads as fast as 940 Mbps and uploads as fast as 880 Mbps. Priced at $69.99 a month standalone and starting at $79.99 a month for a triple play bundle when ordered online, Fios Gigabit Connection provides revolutionary speeds at a revolutionary price. “Everyone deserves the fastest Internet available,” said Ken Dixon, president of Verizon’s consumer wireline business. “No cable provider comes close to offering the speeds and power of Fios Gigabit connection on this kind of scale. I got bored again and realized that it has been one year since I recorded my first video of the FiOS television lineup. I decided to make another one since there's so many changes that occurred to the TV lineup in 2015. Once again, I go through the entire FiOS lineup for you guys. I go from channel 2 to 1849. It's really odd how this second video is longer than my first video. I guess it's because I'm subscribed to more channels this year. To be frank, I have no idea how I'm subscribed to more channels. Notice almost all of the local news channels at the beginning were talking about the deadly Florida tornados.
I was so bored, I decided to go through the entire fios lineup for you guys. With a bit over a thousand channels that I'm subscribed to, I go from channel 2 to 1952. It's weird how I'm subscribed to some channels in SD, but not in HD. Or vis versa. I am not subscribed to NHL Center Ice or NBA League Pass, so I skip those channels.
If something's going to go wrong, it's going to happen to me, as this tale about trying to get Verizon FiOS into my house will tell you. Sorry it's long but I did have to cover 2 1/2 weeks in one shot. Going though the channels on the Verizon FIOS system in Attleboro, Massachusetts on May 27th, 2017.
Originally recorded April 11, 2017. This has been a long time coming. The wife had an old flip phone, Verizon was charging us $50/month for something like 600 minutes. The phone, while it is "text capable", only had a numeric keypad. In addition, Verizon would charge 10 cents per text. Time to switch carriers. We went to metroPCS. Free Samsung Galaxy On5, $30/month unlimited talk and text. Data is 1GB at 4G/LTE speeds, then goes to 3G and is unlimited. More than plenty for $20 less a month! Verizon has always been quick to take your money. Unfortunately, the Verizon account was set up through direct debit from our checking account. I wanted to ensure they would NOT be charging us, so we went to the local Verizon store, and they swarmed in like vultures. When I told them I need...
