Long Island University (LIU) is a private, coeducational, nonsectarian institution of higher education with locations and programs spanning the New York metropolitan area, overseas, and online. The university offers more than 500 academic programs at two main campuses, LIU Post and LIU Brooklyn, as well as non-residential programs at LIU Brentwood, LIU Riverhead, and LIU Hudson at Rockland and Westchester. LIU has NCAA Division I and II athletics and hosts the annual George Polk Awards in Journalism. LIU has an active network of more than 180,000 alumni worldwide.
LIU was chartered in 1926 in Brooklyn by the New York State Education Department to provide “effective and moderately priced education” to people from “all walks of life.”LIU Brooklyn is located in Downtown Brooklyn, at the corner of Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues. The main building adjoins the 1920s movie house, Paramount Theatre (now called the Schwartz Gymnasium), the building retains much of the original decorative detail and a fully operational Wurlitzer organ that rises from beneath the basketball court floorboards. The campus consists of nine academic buildings; a recreation and athletic complex that includes Division I regulation athletic fields; one on-campus and two nearby residential buildings; and an adjoining parking facility. The campus is home to the university’s oldest school, LIU Pharmacy (Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences), originally founded in 1891 as the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy, and LIU Global, a four-year bachelor's degree program that allows students to live and study internationally in eight countries across eight semesters. LIU Brooklyn is home to the NCAA Division I Blackbirds, the renowned George Polk Awards for excellence in journalism, and Kumble Theater for the Performing Arts.

Long Island is an island located just off the northeast coast of the United States and a region within the U.S. state of New York. Stretching east-northeast from New York Harbor into the Atlantic Ocean, the island comprises four counties: Kings and Queens (these form the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, respectively) to the west; then Nassau and Suffolk to the east. However, many people in the New York metropolitan area (even those living in Queens and Brooklyn) colloquially use the term "Long Island" (or "The Island") exclusively to refer to the Nassau-Suffolk county area collectively, which is mainly suburban in character. North of the island is Long Island Sound, across from which lie the states of Connecticut and a small part of Rhode Island.
With a Census-estimated population of 7,804,968 in 2014, constituting nearly 40% of New York State's population, Long Island is the most populated island in any U.S. state or territory, and the 18th-most populous island in the world (ahead of Ireland, Jamaica, and Hokkaidō). Its population density is 5,571 inhabitants per square mile (2,151/km2). If Long Island geographically constituted an independent metropolitan statistical area, it would rank fourth most populous in the United States; while if it were a U.S. state, Long Island would rank 13th in population and first in population density.

We partnered with Walmart on this #BehindTheBraids vlog where you'll come along with B&B; on their very first College Campus Tour! (You can find much of the clothing worn during our campus visit at Walmart.com, links below!) Since the twins have been to EFY "Especially for Youth" on the BYU campus for the past two Summers, they understand fairly well what that campus life could be like. On this trip, the girls wanted to visit the University of Utah campus, just up I-15 from BYU, which is also on their list of potential colleges. Many of our family and friends told us about some of the hikes close to the U of U campus and we were super excited to try some of them out! A few of them offer spectacular views of the campus from the mountains. Problem was... we forgot to pack the right clothes ...

PRE-ORDER BrooklynAndBailey's SIMPLE THINGS ▶ http://hyperurl.co/SimpleThings We had so much fun last week, with it being Easter Weekend, we decide to take the extra long weekend to travel on another college campus tour for BrooklynAndBailey. The twins wanted to visit Harding University in Arkansas, and we were lucky enough to be there over their Spring Sing event! We invited several of our friends to come along, since many of the Robertson's and Howard's are alumni of the university. The Richards family also went with us, since they knew one of the Deans of the campus. After touring the campus, we drove down to Monroe, Louisiana where we spend Easter with the Howard's and Robertson's from Duck Dynasty. As, Bailey's boyfriend, is part of that family so she was extra excited to spend the ...

The MFA in Digital Game Design and Development at LIU Post is the only one of its kind on Long Island. In this hands-on program, students work together to create concepts, stories, and characters, design the world of their game, write the program, and play the finished product. In this episode of our School of Visual and Performing Arts video series, MFA students Katie Muller and Nick Russo discuss how they incorporate their writing and design skills into creating digital games.

Join the celebration with this year’s graduates from the Queens, Brooklyn, and Online campuses. Our graduates and their families joined us from all over the country to share in this proud day. On Friday, June 5, 2015, Allen School of Health Sciences Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, and Medical Billing and Coding program graduates came together to commemorate a very special achievement. This was not the end of their education, but rather the first chapter in their new lives. Our graduates proudly looked forward at the promise of personal and professional growth, while taking time to celebrate the lasting connections and memories made during their education. Among those we honored were our class Valedictorians, Instructors of the Year, and the first recipient of our Loretta Teich Ac...

Another area of my work is as Director of Student Success at The College of New Rochelle, Brooklyn campus inside Restoration Plaza. Through this job, I get to create holistic, social-emotional programs for amazing students and the community. I organized a storytelling event with senior residents at a local senior center in Bedford-Stuyvesant for the college's Community Service Day. I used the storytelling prompt from my work under Story Is Telling, to provide the elders with a space to reflect on their lives from a place of strength, self-awareness, and thriving. My colleague Orlando McAllister provided musical accompaniment on his flute at the beginning and end of the event. We had an AMAZING TIME!!
