I've lived here for over 8 years... I grew up and I've lived with the best smiles and people within these beautiful constructions. Everyday that goes by we don't realize that around us there is history and that people from the other side of the ocean go down thousands of miles just to see what we see everyday here with carelessness. Ok, I have decided to appreciate where I grew up and show the world in what beautiful city I live in.

Vicenza, Italy is a great town to visit. Located in the Veneto region approximately 20-45 minutes by train from Venice Vicenza makes a wonderful day trip from Venice or a nice base for seeing the Veneto.
Many US military personel are acquainted with Vicenza with its military base (which is expanding). Here are five things that anyone (but mostly US visitors) will love and hate (well dislike a little bit) about visiting Vicenza, Italy.

Vicenza About, a city in northeastern Italy, in the Veneto region, at the northern base of the Monte Berico, straddling the Bacchiglione River. Vicenza is approximately 60 kilometres (37 mi) west of Venice and 200 kilometres (120 mi) east of Milan.
Vicenza is a thriving and cosmopolitan city, with a rich history and culture, and many museums, art galleries, piazzas, villas, churches and elegant Renaissance palazzi. With the Palladian Villas of the Veneto in the surrounding area, and his renowned Teatro Olimpico (Olympic Theatre), the "city of Palladio" has been enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
In December 2008, Vicenza had an estimated population of 115,927, and a metropolitan area of 270 000. Vicenza is the third-largest Italian industrial centre as measured by the value of its exports, and is one of the country's wealthiest cities,[2][4] in large part due to its textile and steel industries, which employ tens of thousands. Additionally, about one fifth of the country's gold and jewelry is made in Vicenza, greatly contributing to the city's economy. In questa puntata di "Pronti Partenza ...Via" viene presentata VICENZA, città veneta tutelata dall'UNESCO per le sue architetture, in buona parte opera di Andrea Palladio.
Il centro storico è abbellito da numerosi eleganti palazzi rinascimentali e in stile gotico veneziano. Il cuore della città è la Basilica Palladiana, con il suo doppio loggiato a "serliane" e la copertura a carena di nave rovesciata, che insieme alla cupola del Duomo e la snella Torre Bissara rendono inconfondibile il profilo di Vicenza.
Uno dei gioielli custoditi in città è il Teatro Olimpico, progettato da Palladio e terminato da Vincenzo Scamozzi, dotato di una straordinaria scena lignea fissa che da l'illusione prospettica della profondità; è il teatro stabile coperto più antico d'Europa.

A visit to Vicenza begins from Palladio, of course! Visit his last work, the Teatro Olimpico, and the Basilica (so called even if it is not actually a chruch). Palladio arrived in Vicenza in 1520, he began as a boy apprentice and he was helped to grow into a great architect. Recently he has been defined by American Congress the father of American Architecture! One has only to look at the White House...

Teatro Olimpico
The Teatro Olimpico ("Olympic Theatre") is a theatre in Vicenza, northern Italy, constructed in 1580-1585. The theatre was the final design by the Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio and was not completed until after his death. The trompe-l'œil onstage scenery, designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi, to give the appearance of long streets receding to a distant horizon, was installed in 1585 for the very first performance held in the theatre, and is the oldest surviving stage set still in existence.
The Teatro Olimpico is, along with the Teatro all'antica in Sabbioneta and the Teatro Farnese in Parma, one of only three Renaissance theatres remaining in existence. Both these theatres were based, in large measure, on the Teatro Olimpico.
Since 1994, the Teatro Olimpico, together with other Palladian buildings in and around Vicenza, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto.

Il centro storico è abbellito da numerosi eleganti palazzi rinascimentali e in stile gotico veneziano. Il cuore della città è la Basilica Palladiana, con il suo doppio loggiato a "serliane" e la copertura a carena di nave rovesciata, che insieme alla cupola del Duomo e la snella Torre Bissara rendono inconfondibile il profilo di Vicenza. Uno dei gioielli custoditi in città è il Teatro Olimpico, progettato da Palladio e terminato da Vincenzo Scamozzi, dotato di una straordinaria scena lignea fissa che da l'illusione prospettica della profondità; è il teatro stabile coperto più antico d'Europa. Il centro storico è abbellito da numerosi eleganti palazzi rinascimentali e in stile gotico veneziano. Il cuore della città è la Basilica Palladiana, con il suo doppio loggiato a "serliane" e la copertura a carena di nave rovesciata, che insieme alla cupola del Duomo e la snella Torre Bissara rendono inconfondibile il profilo di Vicenza.
Uno dei gioielli custoditi in città è il Teatro Olimpico, progettato da Palladio e terminato da Vincenzo Scamozzi, dotato di una straordinaria scena lignea fissa che da l'illusione prospettica della profondità; è il teatro stabile coperto più antico d'Europa.

The Don'ts of Italy
1. Don't expect to get discount prices on fancy Italian luxury brands.
2. Don't eat near tourist sights. You will be ripped off and not get as good of Italian food as you would away from the tourist sights.
3. Don't Tip. They already charge you for service.
4. You Don't have to scream louder to get people to understand you.
5. Don't worry about overdressing, the Italians will always look better than you.
6. Don't just visit Rome and Venice, there is so much more to Italy.
7. Don't share your pizza and make sure you do eat it with your fork and knife.
8. Don't use the fast trains for short distances, they are not worth the significantly higher prices.
9. Don't expect to see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu TOGETHER. They will be there separately, but not together.
10. Don't expect a big breakfast in Italy. Just coffee and a cookie.
11. Don't overpack. You will be limited on space when traveling in Italy so pack accordingly.
12. Don't expect to be served food in a restaurant between 3pm and 7pm.

2. Don't eat near tourist sights. You will be ripped off and not get as good of Italian food as you would away from the tourist sights.
3. Don't Tip. They already charge you for service.
4. You Don't have to scream louder to get people to understand you.
5. Don't worry about overdressing, the Italians will always look better than you.
6. Don't just visit Rome and Venice, there is so much more to Italy.
7. Don't share your pizza and make sure you do eat it with your fork and knife.
8. Don't use the fast trains for short distances, they are not worth the significantly higher prices.
9. Don't expect to see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu TOGETHER. They will be there separately, but not together.
10. Don't expect a big breakfast in Italy. Just coffee and a cookie.
11. Don't overpack. You will be limited on space when traveling in Italy so pack accordingly.
12. Don't expect to be served food in a restaurant between 3pm and 7pm.

Alright so we are in our shuttle bus on the way to the airport to go to Venice. And right now I am thinking about what I might have forgotten. I almost left without Lucky. I had to go back and get him. He is the perfect travel pillow. Look! And I have my cashmere travel blanket and a Diet Coke. I am prepared, so I guess we are good. So got through security. Waiting on the flight. I think I have everything. Try to keep it to two bags, carry things and multitask; remember your converters and protein bars. I am prepared. Two protein bars in my purse, right now. So we just landed. We are dressed for the plane. It is about 90 degrees here so I think we are going to go to the hotel and change into something appropriate for really, really warm weather. The good news is with all our luggage and equipment this water taxi goes right to the door of the hotel. You got to love Venice.
