Saint Nicholas (Greek: Ἅγιος Νικόλαος, Hagios Nikólaos, Latin: Sanctus Nicolaus); (15 March 270 – 6 December 343), also called Nikolaos of Myra, was a historic 4th-century Christian saint and GreekBishop of Myra, in Asia Minor (modern-day Demre, Turkey). Because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession, he is also known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker (Νικόλαος ὁ Θαυματουργός, Nikolaos ho Thaumaturgos). His reputation evolved among the faithful, as was common for early Christian saints.
The historical Saint Nicholas is commemorated and revered among Anglican,Catholic, Lutheran, and Orthodox Christians. In addition, some Baptist,Methodist,Presbyterian, and Reformed churches have been named in honor of Saint Nicholas. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers and students in various cities and countries around Europe.
Nicholas was born in Asia Minor (Greek Anatolia in present-day Turkey) in the Roman Empire, to a Greek family during the third century in the city of Patara (Lycia et Pamphylia), a port on the Mediterranean Sea. He lived in Myra, Lycia (part of modern-day Demre), at a time when the region was Greek in its heritage, culture, and outlook and politically part of the Roman diocese of Asia. He was the only son of wealthy Christian parents named Epiphanius (Ἐπιφάνιος) and Johanna (Ἰωάννα) according to some accounts and Theophanes (Θεοφάνης) and Nonna (Νόννα) according to others. He was very religious from an early age and according to legend, Nicholas was said to have rigorously observed the canonical fasts of Wednesdays and Fridays. His wealthy parents died in an epidemic while Nicholas was still young and he was raised by his uncle—also named Nicholas—who was the bishop of Patara. He tonsured the young Nicholas as a reader and later ordained him a presbyter (priest).
Nicholas or Nikolas or Nicolas or Nickolas is a male given name, derived from the Greek name Νικόλαος (Nikolaos), a compound of νίκη nikē 'victory' and λαός; laos 'people', that is, victory of the people. The name became popular through Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra in Lycia, the inspiration for Santa Claus. The customary English version of spelling "Nicholas", using an "h", first came into use in the 12th century and has been firmly established since the Reformation, though "Nicolas" is occasionally used.
In the United States, Nicholas – and its variations – was the 17th most popular male name given to babies in 2006. Roughly 0.7151% of the baby boys born that year, or 15,414, were given that name. It is decreasing in popularity, from a high in 1997, when 27,248 males in the United States were given the name Nicholas. That year was the most popular year for Nicholas since 1880, when U.S. records were kept for given names.
The Eastern Orthodox Church, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Anglican Churches celebrate Saint Nicholas every year on December 6, which is the name day for "Nicholas". In Greece, the name and its derivatives are especially popular in maritime regions, as St. Nicholas is considered the protector saint of seafarers.
Saint Clair (also spelled St. Clair, St Clair or even Sinclair, and is sometimes also pronounced that way) may refer to:
Clair is the French form of the masculine Latin name Clarus, meaning "clear" or "bright".
Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas, Kris Kringle, Santy, or simply Santa is a mythical figure with historical origins who, in many Western cultures, brings gifts to the homes of well-behaved, "good" children on Christmas Eve (24 December) and the early morning hours of Christmas Day (25 December). The modern Santa Claus is derived from the British figure of Father Christmas, the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas, and Saint Nicholas, the historical Greek bishop and gift-giver of Myra. During the Christianization of Germanic Europe, this figure may also have absorbed elements of the god Odin, who was associated with the Germanic pagan midwinter event of Yule and led the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession through the sky.
Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, joyous, white-bearded man—sometimes with spectacles—wearing a red coat with white collar and cuffs, white-cuffed red trousers, and black leather belt and boots and who carries a bag full of gifts for children. Images of him rarely have a beard with no moustache. This image became popular in the United States and Canada in the 19th century due to the significant influence of the 1823 poem "A Visit From St. Nicholas" and of caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast. This image has been maintained and reinforced through song, radio, television, children's books and films.
The Real refers to that which is authentic, the unchangeable truth in reference both to being/the Self and the external dimension of experience, also referred to as the infinite and absolute—as opposed to a reality based on sense perception and the material order.
For Jacques Lacan, the order of the real is not only opposed to the imaginary but is also located beyond the symbolic. Unlike the symbolic, which is constituted in terms of oppositions such as "presence" and "absence", there is no absence in the real. The symbolic opposition between "presence" and "absence" implies the possibility that something may be missing from the symbolic, the real is "always in its place: it carries it glued to its heel, ignorant of what might exile it from there." If the symbolic is a set of differentiated signifiers, the real is in itself undifferentiated: "it is without fissure." The symbolic introduces "a cut in the real," in the process of signification: "it is the world of words that creates the world of things." Thus the real emerges as that which is outside language: "it is that which resists symbolization absolutely." The real is impossible because it is impossible to imagine, impossible to integrate into the symbolic order. This character of impossibility and resistance to symbolization lends the real its traumatic quality.

The great veneration with which St. Nicholas has been honored for many ages and the number of altars and churches all over the world that are dedicated in his memory are testimonials to his wonderful holiness and the glory he enjoys with God. As an episcopal see, and his childhood church falling vacant, the holy Nicholas was chosen bishop, and in that station became famous by his extraordinary piety and zeal and by his many astonishing miracles. The Greek histories of his life agree he suffered an imprisonment of the faith and made a glorious confession in the latter part of the persecution raised by Dioletian, and that he was present at the Council of Nicaea and there condemned Arianism. It is said that St. Nicholas died in Myra, and was buried in his cathedral. St. Nicholas' episcopate ...

Every year on the 6th of December it’s St Nichoals day and this year, for the first time, St Nicholas came to the WUB Skatehall for a skate sess! We started at 3 p.m. with a relaxed shred session and some special St. Nicholas features! Because even St. Nicholas gets hungry from skateboarding, we invited everybody to a little St Nicholas buffet which started at 7p.m.. Here are the handful of shots I got to work on over the summer for Thor: The Dark World. The studio I work at was brought on pretty late in the game so there weren't a lot of juicy animation bits up for grabs. I had fun though, getting to animate Mjolnir in all the shots you see here. I also did one (short) Thor CG shot as well as the opening "shard" shots in which the hero shards were animated then passed along to the FX department for all the crazy trails effects. Ground Blessing Service The World Trade Center October 18, 2014 This service is based on the Service of Laying the Cornerstone for a Church. For Saint Nicholas National Shrine, cairns (a memorial collection of stones) were built up in imitation of the cairn at Gilgal that the Prophet Joshua fashioned to commemorate the crossing over of the Israelites into the Promised Land (Joshua, ch. 4). In this service, two cairns were constructed, in memory of the Twin Towers, and these cairns will eventually be installed permanently at the entrance to the church. The Blessing Service was made up of hymns in honor of Saint Nicholas, Scripture readings, and prayers for the Blessing of Water, which were then be sprinkled on the site. Before the service commenced, water was drawn from the 9/11 Memorial ...
Hi everyone, I had a fab time creating this gorgeous Christmas album, altered in the beautiful papers and embellishments from the St Nicholas collection by Graphic 45 for the last of my 2016 retreats and am really excited to be sharing it with you too. If you'd like to make the album yourself there's a full PDF tutorial available from my website. Link below. St Nicholas Album http://www.mycreativespirit.co.uk/st-nicholas-album-graphic-45-1057-p.asp
The story starts off with Laura's dad's truck breaking down. The mechanic, Gustav, will only fix it for double the normal price. Everyone sings about Christmas presents and Bob asks Junior Asparagus what Christmas is about, and Larry points to the nativity set. Junior Asparagus asks Bob what Santa has to do with Jesus, and Bob starts telling the story of Saint Nicholas. Nick is at church and afterwards, he and his dad go fishing. While they are there, they see a historical counterpart Gustav firing a man who has no food, and Nick's dad gives him the fish they caught. That night, Nick's parents go to help a sick person, but because of a plague affecting the village, they too get sick and die. Distraught and helpless to assist his neighbors, Nick sails to Bethlehem, where he hears about Jesu...
