This video, filmed by Daniel Tjärnén, shows a male zebra’s intent on trying to kill a rival’s zebra foal in Etosha National Park, Namibia.

Tjärnén, who is a railway worker, captured the clip during his holiday, and describes the moment as a “once in a lifetime sighting!”
He explains to LatestSightings.com: "We were driving up to this waterhole, hoping to get some good sightings and especially hoping to see some predators."
As with mother-nature, trying to predict what you'll see in the bush is never easy. Most often than not, you are way off!
"Instead of predators, we saw this dazzle of zebras drinking from the waterhole. We suddenly noticed that the one zebra was actively attacking a young foal. First, it was a bit shocking but then I thought - it's the way of nature”.
Daniel immediately started filming and sent the video into Latest Sightings’ Film and Earn Program!
According to Tjärnén, some of the people with him reacted differently and wanted to help the zebra baby.
"After a long battle between the male, mother and foal, the zebras disappeared behind the trees."
Tjärnén speculates: "It probably wasn't his baby and felt threatened that it would grow up and take over the territory. I think it survived for the time being, but it looked injured. Maybe it was chased off or killed later on by a passing predator."
'Infantacide common practice'
News24 helped us with some research, and they asked a Sabi Sabi game ranger, Richard de Gouveia, to explain this darker side of the Zebra. De Gouveia says that the violence is to show "dominance in the harems". A herd is usually made up of one dominant male, who can have as many as 6 females and their foals in the group. Younger males with no harem would form bachelor herds and wait until they are big enough to start their own harem.
De Gouveia explains further that "Zebra stallions will fight with each other to win over females and will even go as far as stealing females from one another.”
"If the female which is stolen is pregnant, the new male will rape her until such time as she has aborted the pregnancy. Abortion would be done by releasing hormones that would cause her body to reabsorb the fetus or miscarry or if she gave birth to a live foal it would be kicked to death by the male."
This would explain the seen in Etosha as featured by Latest Sightings, with De Gouveia saying, "It ensures that the strongest genetics survive and the killing of another male's young is not an uncommon practice in the animal kingdom."

However, the Department of Ecology has restricted our access to our pasture during the rainy weather because of its proximity to the river. Our farm receives over 6 feet of rain per year, mostly from October through April.

A. Indefinitely. We try to keep the stream going 24/7/365 with some minor downtime with power outages or storms. We rotate horses so there is always a horse to watch on camera.

The two has probably met a little during the night, but Nanny Caracola has been pretty strict about preventing Fabuloso from being to close to the foal. Today she got busy with her gardening chores and the moment could happen! We were on the edge of our seats!

Foal
A foal is an equine, particularly a horse, that is one year old or younger. More specific terms are colt for a male foal and filly for a female foal, but these terms are used until the horse is age three or four. When the foal is nursing from its dam (mother), it may also be called a suckling. After the young horse has been weaned from its dam, it may be called a weanling. When a mare is pregnant, she is said to be "in foal." When the mare gives birth, she is "foaling" and the impending birth is usually stated as "to foal." A newborn horse is "foaled".
After a horse is one year old, it is no longer a foal, and is a yearling. There are no special age-related terms for young horses older than yearlings. When young horses reach breeding maturity, the terms change: a filly over the age of three (four in horse racing) is called a mare and a colt over the age of three is called a stallion. A castrated male horse is called a gelding, regardless of age, though colloquially the term "gelding colt" is sometimes used until a young gelding is three or four years old. (There is no specific term for a spayed female horse, they are simply "spayed mares".)

What Went Down
What Went Down is the fourth studio album by British rock band Foals, released on 28 August 2015 via Transgressive Records in the United Kingdom. The album is produced by James Ford, known for his work with Simian Mobile Disco, The Last Shadow Puppets and Arctic Monkeys amongst others. According to frontman Yannis Philippakis, it is slated to be their loudest and heaviest record to date.What Went Down debuted at #3 on the UK Albums Chart and at #58 on the Billboard 200, making it their highest charting album in the United States to date.
Promotion and release
On 9 June 2015, a 12-second clip teaser of the band performing aggressively in an empty warehouse entitled "FOALS // 2015" was released through their social media. Two days later, it was announced that What Went Down was to be released 28 August 2015 via Transgressive Records with a slightly longer trailer in lieu.
On 16 June, the album's self-titled debut single was debuted on DJ Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show, along with the premiere of the music video (directed by Niall O'Brien) via YouTube.

Mountain at My Gates
"Mountain at My Gates" is a song by English rock band Foals. It was released as the second single from their fourth studio album, What Went Down, on 21 July 2015. The song peaked at number 5 on the US Billboard Alternative Songs chart, number 35 on the Belgian Flanders Tip singles chart, number 87 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 192 on the French Singles Chart. The song was also featured in the soundtrack for the video game FIFA 16.
Music video
The official music video, lasting four minutes and eleven seconds, was uploaded to the official Foals YouTube channel on 29 July 2015. It is a spherical video taken in 4K quality with a GoPro. The rotational view of the video can only be available through the Google Chrome web browser or the YouTube mobile app. A non-spherical version of the video, however, is also available for viewing.

Mais un drame se déroule: L'étalon saisit le bébé par le cou et commence méchamment le balançant autour comme une poupée de chiffon pour le tuer. J'ai été choquée ... Je me dis que l'étalon a fait le poulain une faveur le sauvant d'une mort lente mais l'agression de l'étalon est troublant et envoûtant ... My wife and I finished a great trail ride at sandy bottom stables, when we saw the foal, we asked to pet it. Foal got a little nervous,and mom comes running. Very cute and friendly.

Tjärnén, who is a railway worker, captured the clip during his holiday, and describes the moment as a “once in a lifetime sighting!”
He explains to LatestSightings.com: "We were driving up to this waterhole, hoping to get some good sightings and especially hoping to see some predators."
As with mother-nature, trying to predict what you'll see in the bush is never easy. Most often than not, you are way off!
"Instead of predators, we saw this dazzle of zebras drinking from the waterhole. We suddenly noticed that the one zebra was actively attacking a young foal. First, it was a bit shocking but then I thought - it's the way of nature”.
Daniel immediately started filming and sent the video into Latest Sightings’ Film and Earn Program!
According to Tjärnén, some of the people with him reacted differently and wanted to help the zebra baby.
"After a long battle between the male, mother and foal, the zebras disappeared behind the trees."
Tjärnén speculates: "It probably wasn't his baby and felt threatened that it would grow up and take over the territory. I think it survived for the time being, but it looked injured. Maybe it was chased off or killed later on by a passing predator."
'Infantacide common practice'
News24 helped us with some research, and they asked a Sabi Sabi game ranger, Richard de Gouveia, to explain this darker side of the Zebra. De Gouveia says that the violence is to show "dominance in the harems". A herd is usually made up of one dominant male, who can have as many as 6 females and their foals in the group. Younger males with no harem would form bachelor herds and wait until they are big enough to start their own harem.
De Gouveia explains further that "Zebra stallions will fight with each other to win over females and will even go as far as stealing females from one another.”
"If the female which is stolen is pregnant, the new male will rape her until such time as she has aborted the pregnancy. Abortion would be done by releasing hormones that would cause her body to reabsorb the fetus or miscarry or if she gave birth to a live foal it would be kicked to death by the male."
This would explain the seen in Etosha as featured by Latest Sightings, with De Gouveia saying, "It ensures that the strongest genetics survive and the killing of another male's young is not an uncommon practice in the animal kingdom."

A.The horses have their stalls cleaned twice a day.
Q. When are horses turned out?
A. We let foaling mares out a few days to a few weeks after they've had their foals. However, the Department of Ecology has restricted our access to our pasture during the rainy weather because of its proximity to the river. Our farm receives over 6 feet of rain per year, mostly from October through April.
Q. How long will this live stream go?
A. Indefinitely. We try to keep the stream going 24/7/365 with some minor downtime with power outages or storms. We rotate horses so there is always a horse to watch on camera.
RULES:
No personal attacks.
No self-promotion or links to other channels (We invest a lot of time, money, and effort making this a live stream available, and do not appreciate others siphoning from our viewership.)
If it can't be said on cable TV in the USA, it can't be said here.

In this scene there is a newborn foal
who can't stand even after hours.
The little foal's back legs just don't seem to work.
All us grownups know it's not going to make it.
Then a different band of horses move into the area
and come to investigate the struggling newborn.
It's sweet, one of the mares in this band
tries to help the baby up.
Then, the stallion from the band
comes up to the baby and seems to nuzzle it
and you think
"oh, how sweet, he's trying to help it too."
But then a drama is unfolding:
The stallion grabs the baby by the neck
and starts viciously swinging it around
like a rag doll to kill it. I was shocked...
I tell myself the stallion did the foal a favor
saving it from a lingering death
but the stallion his aggression is disturbing and haunting..."

Dan verschijnt er een groep paarden uit een ander gebied
om de worstelende pasgeborene te onderzoeken.
Op het eerste gezicht is het lief om te zien,
één van de merries probeert om de baby te helpen.
Dan komt er een hengst uit deze groep naar het veulen kijken
en je denkt "oh, wat lief, hij probeert te helpen".
Maar dan ontvouwt zich een drama:
De hengst pakt de baby bij de nek en begint
het venijnig rond te slingeren als een lappenpop
om het veulen te doden.
Ik ben geschokt...
Ik zeg tegen mezelf dat de hengst het veulen een gunst bewees
door het te redden van een langzame dood,
maar de hengst zijn agressie is verontrustend en beangstigend..."

qui ne supportent pas même après des heures.
Pattes arrière du poulain peu juste ne semble pas fonctionner.
Tous les adultes nous savons qu'il ne va pas le faire.
Puis, un groupe différent de chevaux déplacer dans la zone
et viennent à enquêter sur le nouveau-né en difficulté.
C'est doux, l'une des juments dans cette bande
essaie d'aider le bébé.
Ensuite, l'étalon de le groupe
arrive au bébé et il semble renifler
et vous pensez
"oh, combien doux, il essaie de l'aider aussi."

L'étalon saisit le bébé par le cou
