Eva (novel)

Eva is a science fiction novel for young adults by Peter Dickinson, published by Gollancz in 1988. Set in a dystopian future, it features "the hybrid that results when the brain-patterns and memory of a dying girl are transferred into the brain of a chimpanzee." Dickinson researched chimp behavior for the book and he dedicated it to Jane Goodall.

Eva was highly commended for the annual British Carnegie Medal and in 2008 it won the retrospective Phoenix Award. It is one of Dickinson's best known works and by far his most popular in the U.S.

Plot introduction

When 13-year-old Eva is badly injured in a car accident, her consciousness is transplanted into the body of a chimpanzee. The novel concerns her efforts to adjust to her unique situation. The setting is a future when urban civilization has spread across the globe, with disastrous effects on other species.

Plot summary

The novel opens as Eva wakes up in a hospital bed, paralyzed. Her mother assures her she will be fine, that the doctors will gradually reduce the paralysis. Eva guesses that her face has been badly scarred, but when she looks in a mirror, she sees the face of a chimpanzee. An experimental procedure has been used to transplant Eva's "neuron memory" into Kelly, a young chimp from her father's research facility.

Rede Record de Televisão also known simply as Record, is a Brazilian television network, founded in 1953 by Paulo Machado de Carvalho, also founder of Rádio Record. Currently it is owned by Brazilian businessman Edir Macedo, who is also founder and bishop of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.

Since 2007 it is the second-most popular television network in Brazil, after having been in last place of the television networks since the 1980s. With 62 continuous years of transmission, it is also the oldest TV network in the country.

Since 2010 the Rede Record is the world's fifth largest television channel in revenue, second only to the American Broadcasting Company, Rede Globo, CBS and NBC.

History

1950s: Beginnings

TV Record started its transmissions on September 27, 1953. It was founded by Paulo Machado de Carvalho in São Paulo, as a competitor for then-dominant Rede Tupi from Diários Associados. It broke the three-year-old monopoly the station had in the city. It originally broadcast shows, sports, journalism, comedies and plays. In the 1950s, TV Record became recognized for their sports broadcasts. In 1959, it started airing shows featuring international entertainment figures, such as Charles Aznavour, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, and Marlene Dietrich.

Dejan Aćimović

Dejan Aćimović (born 20 May 1963) is a Bosnian Croat actor and director. He was born in Čapljina, Yugoslavia, now Bosnia and Herzegovina. As an actor, his work included principal and supporting roles in numerous films, both within and outside Croatia. His directorial debut was Je li jasno, prijatelju? (2000), for which he won a Golden Arena Award as a supporting actor during Croatia's Pula Film Festival.
