Louisiana State University (officially Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, often referred to as LSU) is a public coeducational university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The University was founded in 1853 in what is now known as Pineville, Louisiana, under the name Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy. The current LSU main campus was dedicated in 1926, and consists of more than 250 buildings constructed in the style of Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio, and occupies a 650-acre (2.6 km²) plateau on the banks of the Mississippi River.
LSU is the flagship institution of the Louisiana State University System, and the largest institution of higher education in Louisiana in terms of student enrollment. In 2015, the University enrolled over 26,000 undergraduate and over 5,000 graduate students in 14 schools and colleges. Several of LSU's graduate schools, such as the E.J. Ourso College of Business and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, have received national recognition in their respective fields of study. Designated as a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institution, LSU is also noted for its extensive research facilities, operating some 800 sponsored research projects funded by agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
The LSU Tigers and Lady Tigers are the athletic teams representing Louisiana State University (LSU), a public four-year coeducational university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. LSU competes in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as a member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). LSU fields teams in 21 varsity sports (9 men's, 12 women's). The 9 men's teams play baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, swimming & diving, tennis, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. The 11 women's teams play basketball, cross country, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field, and both indoor and beach volleyball. LSU athletics has many traditions associated with its sports programs. Its official team nickname is the Fighting Tigers, Tigers or Lady Tigers. The "Lady Tigers" nickname is used only in sports that have teams for both men and women—specifically basketball, cross country, golf, swimming & diving, tennis, and track & field (indoor and outdoor). The nickname was first coined in 1896 after an undefeated football season. The nickname is a throwback to the Civil War fame of a New Orleans infantry company, the "Tiger Rifles". They fought so fiercely in General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia that they, and eventually all other Louisiana troops, became known as "Louisiana Tigers". In 1955, the LSU "fourth-quarter club" added the word "Fighting" to the nickname thus becoming "Fighting Tigers". The school's mascot is Mike the Tiger and the official school colors are royal purple and old gold. Keeping with the French/Cajun character of South Louisiana, LSU support can be seen by its distinctive spelling of "Go Tigers" as "Geaux Tigers".

While playing in the Big East Conference from 2005 through 2013, the Cardinals captured 17 regular season Big East titles and 33 Big East Tournament titles totaling 50 Big East Championships across all sports. With their 2013 Sugar Bowl appearance against the Florida Gators, the Cardinal football team became the only football team in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to have appeared in and won two Bowl Championship Series bowls, having defeated Wake Forest 24–13 in the 2007 Orange Bowl and Florida 33–23 in the 2013 Allstate Sugar Bowl. On November 28, 2012, Louisville received and accepted an invitation to join the Atlantic Coast Conference and became a participating member in all sports in 2014. In 2013, Louisville defeated the Michigan Wolverines to win the 2013 Men's Basketball NCAA Championship, capturing their third such championship in school history.

Guice, Fournette Help #24 LSU Run Over #25 Arkansas, 38-10: FAYETTEVILLE, AR. -- Admittedly, Derrius Guice doesn't know all that much about the Golden Boot -- since LSU hasn't held the trophy after losses to Arkansas in each of the last two seasons. The Tigers sophomore did his part to make sure he'd have a chance to get acquainted with the 200-pound hardware on Saturday night, rushing for a career-high 252 yards in No. 19 LSU's 38-10 win over the Razorbacks. A week after carrying the ball only two times for eight yards in a 10-0 loss to No. 1 Alabama, Guice overshadowed even star backfield teammate Leonard Fournette for the Tigers (6-3, 4-2 SEC, No. 24 CFP). The sophomore did so by finishing with 21 carries, including a game-sealing 96-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. It was ...
Everyone says that Kelvin Joseph, Scotlandville Magnet's 4-star defensive back, is a level-headed kid. But once he steps on the football field, he becomes a savage. Coming in at 6-1, 191 lbs, he's ready to make history at LSU, a school that has a storied past with NFL-level defensive back talent. Want more from NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune? Visiting to Louisiana State university in Baton Rouge
Hello Hoppers! While in Louisiana I stopped by LSU in Baton Rouge to visit Mike the Tiger and to stroll through its beautiful campus. I couldn't leave Baton Rouge without visiting the Louisiana State Capitol Building. It looked like a little Empire State Building, lol. But while I was in the building we had the opportunity to meet with the Lt Governor Jay Dardenne!! He was so welcoming and we appreciate his taking time off to say hi and even take a photo with us! Thanks again!
